I Married A Degraded Alpha
Chapter 66: Search and Rescue

Chapter 66: Search and Rescue

Aboard the starship, most volunteers shared a room with three others. But when it came to Yuri and Tuss, they had a room just for the two of them.

Marriage does have its perks, I see. Daleks mused.

"The Alliance encourages having kids. Not only do married couples get privileges, families with kids get even more. There’s an annual child allowance until they turn eighteen," Delamak explained, a touch of longing in his voice.

"When will the Alliance introduce me a wife?" Vernon blurted out his inner question.

"Once you rank up to a the level Five Sergeant, the Alliance will set blind dates for you," Delamak retorted with an eye roll. "How could you not know such an important thing?"

"Why do you know such an important thing?" Vernon shot back.

Delamak simply shrugged and walked back to his room.

"Our teacher mentioned it in class, didn’t you hear?" Daleks looked genuinely surprised. "I not only listened attentively but also took notes."

Feeling like he missed out big time, Vernon slung an arm around Daleks’s shoulder. "Bro, what exactly did the teacher say? Can you fill me in?"

Daleks just sighed in response.

The starship journey took four days and five nights. Yuri spent her time either in the gym or in their room attending online classes. Tuss wanted to keep her company, but their classmates kept knocking on their door, inviting him out to hang.

In response, Tuss hung a "Do Not Disturb, Resting" sign on their door.

Once the sign was up, peace finally descended on their room.

On the fifth night, the starship reached planet 132 in the Fritillaria Galaxy, one of the three planets attacked by the insectoids.

With dimensional buttons storing all their luggage, Yuri and Tuss disembarked the starship empty-handed.

Almost a hundred people followed them, looking more like bosses inspecting work than volunteers. Everyone else was in groups of a few or around a dozen. But here, it was just the two of them.

Planet 132 was as bright as day. Everywhere they looked, there was devastation that took their breath away.

Robots were clearing the debris on the road, and some early-arriving volunteers were using instruments to locate people buried in the rubble.

Yuri and Tuss exchanged a look and accepted the task of searching for survivors. Most of their classmates also took on search tasks, while a few chose to clear the streets, transporting heaps of rocks and debris away. A handful went to other places like shelters to look after the injured.

Yuri stood before a pile of ruins, a huge billboard indicating that it had once been a hotel.

"The detector is beeping, but it’s faint," Tuss informed, having made a round of the wreckage. "I can’t pinpoint the exact location."

Yuri released her psychic power and Enova, slowly moving towards a specific direction. Seeing this, Tuss followed without hesitation, releasing his Enova as well. He couldn’t detect anything else, but he could sense metal.

"Here," Yuri pointed to the spot under her feet.

Tuss met her gaze, directing his Enova towards the ground under her feet. Half a minute later, he reported, "Lots of metal below."

Yuri nodded, stepping back a few paces, instructing Tuss, "Move this wall."

It was a broken-down wall about thirteen feet long, roughly ten feet wide, and almost two feet thick. The broken part revealed sharp, menacing metal that instinctively made people keep their distance.

Tuss walked over to the metal, grabbing it with his bare hands.

"Please stand back, we’ll bring the machinery over," a soldier stepped forward, unable to hold himself back.

Tuss didn’t object. As soon as the soldier left, Tuss grabbed the metal, ready to exert force. Just then, another soldier came over and said, "You’re going to move the wall by hand?"

With an astonished look on his face, the soldier turned to Yuri, his eyes pleading: Aren’t you going to stop him?

Yuri sighed, walked over, and said, "Move aside."

This was directed at both Tuss and the soldier.

"No need, I got this. You step back, there will be a lot of dust," Tuss said to Yuri, then turned to the soldier, "You should step back as well."

Before the soldier could respond, Tuss had already hoisted up the wall.

The soldiers watched in stunned silence as Tuss moved the wall. Just as they started to wonder if the wall was made of cardboard, Tuss smashed it to the ground with a loud thud, causing the ground to shudder and dust to billow up.

There was no need to question it, it was a real wall.

Once the wall was moved, Yuri returned to her original spot, saying, "Let’s do this together. It’ll be quicker."

As she spoke, she lifted a huge boulder that was so big it concealed her body, leaving only her legs visible.

The soldiers were once again taken aback by the inhuman power.

The soldier who had brought the machine joined the digging, but soon realized he couldn’t match the efficiency of Tuss, an SSS-tier alpha, or even Yuri, an omega with a missing arm.

This was truly absurd.

"No wonder she could catch a falling healing capsule. This strength must be a freakish gift," one of the soldiers muttered.

The others remembered the incident at the hospital building a few days ago and nodded in agreement.

With the freakishly strong Yuri and Tuss, and over a hundred soldiers pitching in, they quickly excavated a deep pit in the rubble.

"Here," Yuri pointed to her left.

Without any hesitation, Tuss started digging at the spot Yuri had pointed to.

The other soldiers couldn’t help but doubt her since she clearly didn’t have any detection tools.

Tuss dug wherever Yuri pointed, reminding people of how much Tuss was said to be afraid of his wife.

Tuss got this reputation of being henpecked after Yuri had kicked him flying during break of the contest in the arena.

The soldiers didn’t trust Yuri, so they took out their instruments. But a minute later, they were proven wrong—the instrument indicated the same spot that Yuri had pointed out.

The vibe became somewhat awkward.

Yuri and Tuss seemed unaware and continued to work hard.

"I can hear some faint noises," Yuri mentioned.

"They must have reached their limit after enduring so many days," Tuss commented, instructing the people behind him, "Go and get the medical team."

Hearing this, a soldier took off running.

Yuri assessed the situation and said, "This is a triangular shape, removing any part would cause the rest to collapse. We each take one."

Tuss nodded, and when Yuri counted to three, they both exerted their strength simultaneously.

Two large stones were removed, revealing two children, about seven or eight years old, underneath. Next to the children were several empty Nutrient Fluids bottles and a few snack bags.

"Bring them up," Yuri ordered.

Tuss didn’t move but looked at the soldiers behind him. One of them got the hint, jumped down, and passed the children up to his comrades.

At this moment, the doctors and nurses also arrived.

"Surprisingly, there are survivors," the doctor said, both shocked and delighted.

"They were not injured and had food. But if we had arrived a day or two later, they would probably have been gone," the soldier responded.

The doctor gave a thumbs up, "Well done, you guys."

Flattered, the soldier replied, "The credit goes to the others."

Besides the living, the bodies buried underneath also needed to be dealt with.

After witnessing Yuri and Tuss’s expertise in locating people, the soldiers took on the responsibility of excavating the bodies, allowing the two to focus on finding survivors.

This was exactly what Yuri and Tuss had in mind, so they immediately agreed.

From this point, nearly a hundred soldiers divided into two groups: one group dug up the bodies in the rubble, and the other followed Yuri and Tuss, performing their duties to protect them and helping out as necessary.

In the next five hours, Yuri and Tuss found two more survivors. These survivors were in a more critical condition than the two children and were immediately sent into a healing pod upon being rescued from the rubble.

"Let’s take a break, get something to eat," Tuss pulled Yuri back as she was about to press forward.

Startled, Yuri took out a bottle of Nutrient Fluids, sipping it as she walked, "I’m not tired, no need to rest."

"The rescue team has already done a sweep. There are very few survivors left underground. Don’t push yourself too hard," Tuss advised.

Yuri turned to look at him, "Tuz, I’m really okay, not tired. At a time like this, resting feels more exhausting than searching for survivors."

Tuss bit his lip, remaining silent.

"I’m okay." Yuri hugged Tuss.

She was genuinely okay, she was just reminded of her previous life.

At the beginning of the apocalypse in her past life, her parents were trapped under rubble. The others either turned into zombies or fled for their lives. No one could rescue her parents.

She stayed by the rubble, refusing to leave. Since her Enova hadn’t awakened yet, she relied on her own hands. Balancing between fighting with the zombies and digging, she dug for fifteen days straight, eventually finding her parents’ bodies.

They had starved to death.

They had no injuries, their lips were dry and cracked, and their hands clutched wooden sticks marked with teeth marks.

Yuri closed her eyes, burying her head in Tuss’s chest. "I’m really okay, just a little upset. I always feel like someone is waiting for me to rescue them, and I can’t feel at ease. Tuz, I understand how it goes, but I can’t control it, do you understand that feeling?"

"I understand." Tuss hugged her back.

"I’ll continue to search with you."

"Tuz, help!"

A shout came from a distance.

Yuri and Tuss glanced at each other, "That’s Daleks’ voice."

Without hesitation, they ran towards the direction of the sound. They hadn’t gone far when they saw Daleks and his group being chased by a swarm of Scorpion-tailed bees.

"Use the net, we’ll each pull one side," Tuss made a quick decision. In the meantime, his knife stored in his waist instantly transformed into a finely woven, wide net.

Each of them grabbed one end of the net and swiftly ran towards Daleks and his group.

"Don’t come over, run away!" Seeing them rushing over, Daleks cried out in a panic.

"That’s Scorpibees, run!" Ender also shouted.

However, Yuri and Tuss seemed oblivious to their warnings. In the blink of an eye, they were in front of them and rushed towards the swarm behind them.
