I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 67: Urgent Evacuation
Chapter 67: Urgent Evacuation
Seeing Yuri and Tuss dash fearlessly towards the Scorpibees, Daleks and the others froze in terror, forgetting all about running away. They came to a full stop and turned around in unison.
"Cast the net!" Tuss yelled.
With one hand each on an end of the metal net, Yuri and Tuss flung it towards the swarm of Scorpibees. Countless creatures were instantly trapped beneath the mesh. Almost at the same time, the two boys yanked the wire tight, and the net snapped shut, trapping hundreds, maybe thousands of Scorpibees inside.
Their actions were swift, smooth, and completely flawless. It was as if the net had a mind of its own, not a single Scorpibee was missed.
The others were dumbfounded.
"I’ll take care of this; don’t get too close," Tuss warned Yuri.
Without any objections, Yuri watched Tuss get busy, asking, "Are these insectoids?"
"Yep, level one insectoids. Extremely venomous, a few stings can be fatal," Tuss replied. He tied the mouth of the net and attached it to a plastic rod, slinging it over his shoulder, "They’re quite valuable. Each live one can fetch hundreds to thousands of astracredits."
Yuri glanced at the Scorpibee in the net, finding them suddenly adorable, his eyes lighting up, "So many astracredits."
Tuss softened, "Hospitals and pharmaceutical companies usually buy these things. We could sell to them."
Every time insectoids appeared, cleanup crews from pharmaceutical companies and hospitals would buy some. Certain parts of the insectoids’ bodies could be used to make medicine with remarkable healing effects.
"You guys even brought a net?" Vernon exclaimed in shock.
"Turns out, it’s pretty useful," Tuss showed off their catch to the others.
Ender nodded, "Who would think of volunteering and bringing a net?"
Tuss: "....."
"Shouldn’t you guys get some antivenom first?" Yuri reminded Daleks and the others. Most of them were stung by Scorpibees, their faces and hands were noticeably swollen and seemed to be swelling even more.
The only one unharmed was a female beta, well-protected by the others.
"If you hadn’t mentioned it, I would have forgotten about the pain, sheesh—" Daleks grimaced, sucking in a sharp breath.
Their commotion drew attention, not just from the patrolling guards and medical staff, but also bystanders, including those from the pharmaceutical companies.
"Whoa, all the Scorpibees are alive," a middle-aged man’s eyes lit up as he asked, "How many astracredits? I’ll take them all."
Tuss was about to respond when his expression suddenly changed. He instinctively reached out for Yuri, but Yuri was quicker. She flicked out a blade which whizzed past the man’s ear like a streak of white light.
With a slicing sound, something was cut off, followed by the thud of an object hitting the ground.
"Whoa..." Vernon jumped in surprise.
"A stray," Daleks gasped, his face a mask of shock.
Everyone crowded around, taking a closer look at the Scorpibee that had fallen to the ground.
"Yikes, it’s still alive."
Everyone recoiled in panic, stepping back hurriedly.
"Look, its tail! It’s about to attack. Man, it’s so fast!"
"Catch it! That’s hundreds of astracredits!"
"Don’t fight over it; that’s my sister-in-law’s catch."
"Okay, okay, we won’t compete with Yuri."
Everyone was in a frenzy, but eventually they trapped the Scorpibee in a plastic container.
"When you look at it like this, it doesn’t seem so tough. It’s all about their numbers."
"No, it’s their venom."
"And their speed."
"Yuri’s knife skills are incredible, she only cut off its wings but didn’t harm its body at all."
"Could it be a coincidence?"
"Why don’t you try to pull off a coincidence like that?"
...
In total, there were over nine hundred Scorpibees. Some were injured, and therefore slightly less valuable, but the intact ones fetched a good price.
Looking at the additional eighty thousand astracredits in her account, Yuri couldn’t help but beam, "We can afford the lev now."
Tuss joined in her laughter, "Didn’t expect to earn enough on the first day."
"Do you think Ender will be upset if we only buy levs for Daleks and Kilana?" Yuri asked, glancing at the trio being treated by the nurse not far away.
Tuss stiffened, realizing he had overlooked this issue.
"I overlooked too, initially," Yuri admitted calmly.
The two exchanged glances before Yuri proposed, "When he gets married, I’ll give him a mecha I’ve built myself."
Tuss could only shake his head, not having the heart to tell her that building a mecha was a feat generally achieved by seasoned armor masters, a status often requiring decades of experience. Ender’s wedding couldn’t wait that long.
While Daleks and the others had to stay behind for observation, Yuri and Tuss continued their search for survivors under the rubble. This time, they extended their search radius, going even further out.
After another six hours, even the energetic Yuri and Tuss started to show signs of fatigue. The soldiers following them were downright exhausted, looking like they could drop at any moment.
Seeing this, Yuri felt a pang of guilt.
She had forgotten about them.
If she and Tuss didn’t rest, neither did the soldiers. While she and Tuss could keep going due to their Enova, the soldiers suffered from the continuous high-intensity work for over ten hours.
"Let’s take a three-hour break. Do as you please," Yuri suggested.
Tuss breathed a sigh of relief; if she hadn’t stopped, he would have made her.
Pulling out the lev, Tuss told Yuri, "Go rest in the vehicle. There’s water inside, and clean clothes I’ve got for you."
Yuri entered the lev, closed the door, and switched the window glass to one-way mode.
She poured out half a bucket of water and opened the cupboard to find neatly stacked underwear first in sight.
A mix of sweet and embarrassing feelings hit her.
She wondered what Tuss had been thinking while preparing all this for her.
After her bath, Yuri changed into clean clothes. As she opened the door to call Tuss, she saw him asleep among the soldiers. The area was filled with the soft sound of snoring.
Forget it, let it be. Yuri closed the vehicle door, pulled out a single bed from the interior, and fell asleep within a minute.
Yuri didn’t know how long she slept before she was woken up by the urgent sound of an alarm. As soon as she heard the alarm, she leapt from her bed, gripping the dagger at her waist.
"We’ve encountered a large group of insectoid eggs and freshly hatched insectoids ahead." Tuss entered, his face solemn. "There might be a level five, or even higher-level, insectoid queen here."
The levels of insectoids ranged from one to nine, and level five was already quite high, not to mention a queen, known for their psychic power.
This would be a tough opponent.
Yuri had no concept of the strength of a level five insectoid queen, but seeing Tuss’s serious expression, she could guess that this queen posed a significant threat.
"Give me the mecha, you drive the lev to the shelter. The people there need to be evacuated." Tuss spoke quickly.
He removed the dimensional button from her hand.
"I don’t know how to drive the lev," Yuri admitted helplessly.
"No, Yuri, you can. Even a three-year-old can drive a lev," Tuss looked at her deeply, "Take care of yourself."
With that, Tuss closed the vehicle door.
The lev’s intelligence level was high. Yuri activated the beginner’s mode, searched for the shelter’s location, and drove shakily toward it.
She soon got the hang of it.
Driving the lev was not too different from driving a car in her previous life. The main difference was one moved on the ground and the other in the sky. Frankly, the lev was easier to control, there were fewer regulations and restrictions, and issuing commands was simple and smooth.
The shelter was shaped like a giant egg, made from various metals, which Yuri immediately liked. If it weren’t for the urgency of the situation, she would love to study it.
The shelter had been built a while ago, and a considerable amount of metallic genesis had accumulated on the metals. As Yuri parked, she controlled her Enova to absorb the metallic genesis. Her somewhat pale face regained its rosy glow after absorbing a significant amount of metallic genesis.
Yuri’s lev had a load capacity of five tons and only six seats. To fit more people, Yuri pressed the hide seat button, and the seats temporarily folded, retracting into the vehicle.
Aside from Yuri, the local government had also arranged for numerous levs to arrive.
As soon as Yuri’s vehicle door opened, people rushed in, filling the lev like sardines until no more could fit, causing those outside to retreat with disappointed faces.
Once the door closed and the lev took off, Yuri drove it at maximum speed, darting off like a beam of light. The passengers were thrown forward, their faces distorted against the vehicle windows.
Yuri drove fiercely and violently, but not a single person in the vehicle complained. They all knew that they would only be safe once they reached the safety zone as soon as possible.
The safety zone was a temporarily designated area, where the largest population of Planet 132 resided, protected by the military.
Yuri’s lev, like a shooting star, landed outside the gate of the safe zone. As soon as the lev’s door opened, the people inside rushed out as if escaping, their first actions upon getting off were to find a place to vomit.
As soon as the passengers got off, Yuri controlled the lev to take off again, the whole process taking less than three minutes.
Yuri made several trips back and forth. By the fourth trip, the person in charge of the shelter said to her, "After reaching the safety zone, you won’t need to come back. We should be able to fit everyone in this time."
"Understood." Yuri replied, her gaze falling on a large lev nearby, its body three times the size of hers.
It was large, but not as fast as hers. Yuri shook her head; she did not envy it.
Once again, Yuri’s lev sped away at the speed of light, causing the person in charge of the shelter to shake his head and sigh, "She looks like such a quiet girl, who knew she’d be so fearless."
"Don’t judge a book by its cover," a subordinate responded.
"Indeed, we owe her a lot. Without her, we wouldn’t have been able to evacuate in such a short time," the person in charge said.
After completing the final trip, Yuri didn’t stay in the safety zone. Instead, she activated the location search and tracking functions on her opticomputer. She wanted to find Tuss.
When she located Tuss’s position, she furrowed her brow. It was the same place she had just been. But when she passed by earlier, there was clearly nothing there.
