I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 55: A Divorce in the Making?
Chapter 55: A Divorce in the Making?
Yuri blurted out that she wanted two flying vehicles worth 50 million each, and the vibe around them changed instantly. Other people were thinking, Is she putting on airs, or is she just naive and materialistic, causing unnecessary difficulty for Tuss?
No matter the reason, their impression of her plummeted in that moment.
Pity filled their eyes as they looked at Tuss. To have such a wife, openly kicked him and making a spectacle of themselves, not to mention her evident love for luxury, is a bit too much...
Sure, character flaws could be tolerated, but there was one insurmountable issue between them—the barrier between an alpha and an omega.
If Tuss was a lower-level alpha, it wouldn’t matter, but he wasn’t. He was an SS-tier, the strongest among the four military academies. Such an alpha won’t be able to live without a strong beta.Even if the Alliance doesn’t force them to divorce, how long can a beta-less Tuss live? Thirty, forty years?
It was clear that the longevity of Yuri and Tuss’s marriage was uncertain.
Most of the people present were sharp-minded. Many instantly cooled their attitudes towards Yuri. When boarding the lev, they deliberately chose seats far from her.
"Yuri, I’ve bought a lev before. Want me to recommend a few models?" Ender offered, sitting next to Yuri. On her other side sat Tuss.
Yuri was browsing photos of levs on her opticomputer. At Ender’s words, she immediately recalled the car that had been destroyed by insectoids, and then transformed into countless blades by her using Enova technology.
Feeling guilty, she looked at Tuss and whispered, "Should we compensate him with a car?"
Tuss also remembered the incident half a year ago on Planet Alpha, where Yuri, Ender, and he had encountered the insectoids. Not only one flying vehicle was destroyed, but also a mecha.
"No need," Tuss shook his head.
Even if Ender found out, he wouldn’t mind; he’d just be grateful that Yuri had saved their lives.
Yuri nodded, but she was already thinking that when Ender got married, she and Tuss could give him a lev as a wedding gift.
But before that, she’d need to save some more astracredits.
"Buy a beast-shaped lev, it’s cool," Daleks chimed in.
"I think the streamlined ones are cooler," Kilana voiced her differing opinion.
"Are you really buying one?" Tyrone asked curiously. the levs were not cheap.
"We can sell a few precious stones that we’ve extracted from raw ones. With a little more, we can afford two levs," Tuss explained casually.
"What?!" Daleks swore, "On top of starstones, you found other gems too? Where is this planet? I’m going to buy some rocks to try my luck too."
"You’re too late," Ender retorted, rolling his eyes, "The moment they found the starstones, every piece of ore on that planet was snatched up."
"You guys are way too lucky," Tyrone said, green with envy.
"It’s alright," Tuss admitted without denial. Placing a hand on the back of Yuri’s seat, he added, "Yuri is the lucky one."
Tyrone, Ender, and Daleks all turned their heads away at the same time.
Ugh, they couldn’t stand the lovey-dovey stuff.
The manor was expansive enough that the levs could land directly on the lawn in front of the house.
As soon as they stepped out of the lev, a rich, enticing aroma of food greeted them. The teens, who had been hungry all day, felt that a home celebration might not be too bad after all.
"I think I could eat a cow right now," Daleks said, and made a beeline for the house, not bothering with formalities.
"I don’t know about cows, but I smell barbecue."
...
The boys and girls rushed into the house one after the other, leaving Yuri and Tuss, the hosts, to bring up the rear.
"They’re really not shy, are they?" Yuri grumbled.
Looking at her, Tuss replied apologetically, "They just can’t help it."
"I’m not mad," Yuri yawned, "Since everyone’s so comfortable, you guys go ahead. I’m going to my room."
"If you want anything to eat, I’ll bring it up to you later," Tuss offered.
"Anything’s fine."
Yuri returned to her room, and just as she finished taking a bath, Tuss came in with a tray of food.
"Are you trying to fatten me up?" Yuri said, speechless at the sight of the loaded tray.
"If you can’t finish it, save it for later. I’ll eat it," Tuss assured her. Then, after a thought, he advised, "Try to stay in your room tonight if you don’t have anything to do downstairs."
Baffled, Yuri asked, "Are you guys planning on streaking or something? No, that doesn’t seem right. There are other girls, like Kilana, downstairs as well."
"Stop it with the inappropriate thoughts," Tuss said, looking exasperated.
"Then why can’t I go downstairs?" Yuri’s gaze was sharp, as if she was trying to read Tuss’s mind.
"They’re having a pheromone contest downstairs," Tuss admitted reluctantly.
Yuri: "....."
Seeing Yuri’s "you guys are so immature" expression, Tuss quickly clarified, "I didn’t participate."
Unsurprised, Yuri retorted, "They didn’t let you participate, did they?"
Suppressing a smile, Tuss changed his mind about leaving. He decided to sit down across from Yuri and said, "Their pheromones smell awful. I’ll stay with you instead."
After Tuss had gone upstairs and didn’t come down again, someone questioned, "Are Tuss and Yuri on good terms?"
"After the kick she gave him today, Tuss didn’t even get mad. What do you think?" Daleks rolled his eyes at the person.
"But Tuss is a high-ranking alpha, and Yuri is just an omega," someone else regretfully noted.
The room fell silent at those words.
Everyone looked at each other, all too aware of the outcome for a high-ranking alpha without a beta partner. Because of this knowledge, nobody wanted to comment carelessly.
"Tuss knows what he’s doing," Ender finally broke the silence.
"Yes, Tuss always had his priorities straight," Tyrone nodded.
Some, however, thought differently. They were convinced that Tuss would part ways with Yuri, and were even scheming to introduce their own beta sisters to him.
The party-goers that night were all alphas, and they had a blast, playing into the night, eventually deciding to stay over at the manor.
Yuri activated the noise-canceling feature in her room, ensuring the sounds from outside wouldn’t disturb her. She proceeded to continue with her lessons at her own pace, eventually going to bed when the time came.
The next day, after waking up and freshening up, Yuri continued her studies while sipping on Nutrient Fluids. By the time she finished her three classes, it was already bright outside.
Yuri finished her lessons and only then noticed a message from Tuss. The message had been sent an hour ago and simply read, "Meeting with Officer Lyao, stepping out for a bit."
Yuri expected Tuss to be gone for a few hours or maybe the entire day, but by 10 p.m., he still hadn’t returned.
She activated Tuss’s location tracking, but it came up empty.
Frowning, Yuri sent a communication request to Ender. As soon as he picked up, she asked, "Do you know how to contact Officer Lyao?"
