I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 49: Face-Slapping
Chapter 49: Face-Slapping
Yuri had no clue where the match venue was, but she was surrounded by people coming to watch the game, so she simply followed the crowd.
The venue wasn’t far from the school gate. After a ten-minute walk, a huge oval building appeared before her. The futuristic design left Yuri, a country bumpkin, wide-eyed in awe.
It seemed no different from the buildings in sci-fi movies she’d seen in her previous life.
Entering the venue required another scan of her genetic code. Yuri glanced at the long line in front of her, then at a deserted entrance not far away, and strode directly towards it.
"Hey, you can’t go there," someone called out to Yuri.
Yuri looked back at her, puzzled, and asked, "Why not?"
The girl, who was friendly and obviously recognized Yuri, explained, "That’s the VIP section. Other people aren’t allowed."
"Tsk, she’s been studying here for a whole term, and she pretends not to know," Vivian sneered from within the crowd, her beautiful eyes filled with disdain and mockery. "Does she think it’s a special seat for the disabled? They might pity her and let her in."
As the campus queen of Military Academy No. 1, almost everyone knew Vivian. Since Yuri married Tuss, her photo had been dug up and spread all over the campus network, so quite a few people recognized Yuri as well.
One was Tuss’s pursuer, the other his wife. The clash between the two ignited the crowd’s love for gossip.
"Vivian, don’t be so mean," a voice called out, casting a friendly smile towards Yuri.
"How am I being mean? I’m just stating facts," Vivian retorted, her gaze suggesting she had seen through his intentions. "Darin, Tuss is no longer the first chair. Flattering his wife won’t do you any good."
"I’m not flattering anyone," Darin said, frowning. "Tuss lost his legs saving his classmates, and he and Yuri saved over a thousand students recently. I respect them, that’s all. Moreover, as far as I know, the school’s venue was only open twice last term, and Yuri wasn’t here. That’s why she doesn’t know the rules. You don’t need to be so aggressive."
"Aggressive?" Vivian looked innocent. "Are you sure it isn’t Yuri who is trying to ruin the lione? Everyone is waiting here, and she’s the only one heading that way. It’s clear that she doesn’t understand her place, and when I call her out, I’m in the wrong?"
"That’s true," one of Vivian’s companions chimed in. "If we could go there, why are we waiting in line here instead? It’s not like that we’re stupid."
Others nodded in agreement. Exactly, they thought, Yuri might not know the rules, but couldn’t she at least do other people did?
"I think I can enter the VIP section?" Yuri suggested uncertainly.
At her words, Vivian was the first to laugh. "Even teaching staff may not be allowed in there. What makes you think you can?"
"Yeah, what gives you the right? Because you’re disabled?"
"Or maybe it’s because of her disabled husband."
Cruel laughter erupted, and glances towards Yuri were as if looking at a joke.
Darin’s frown deepened. "Yuri, getting into the VIP section isn’t about money. It requires a special status."
Yuri nodded thoughtfully. "I’ll give it a try."
With that, she presented her opticomputer at the luxurious door. A soft beep sounded, and the door slowly slid open.
It... it really opened—
Everyone was dumbfounded.
Vivian’s pretty face twisted, her eyes nearly spewing fire as she gritted out, "Why?"
Everyone else was filled with the same question. Why indeed?
"It could be because Tuss and I saved over a thousand students or perhaps because we found the starstone," Yuri said casually. Tuss had mentioned to her that the military officer had elevated their citizen rank. Their privileges at school had been raised as well.
She wasn’t sure if she could actually enter the VIP section, but since Vivian had pushed her this far, she could only give it a try.
And to her surprise, it did open.
Under envious glares from Vivian and others, Yuri leisurely walked into the VIP section.
The VIP section was still relatively empty, probably because others hadn’t arrived yet. Yuri found a comfortable spot and sat down.
She had to admit, the view from here was great. She could almost see the entire field. Furthermore, there was a small table with monitors showing every corner of the field. One could easily zoom into any part of the game.
Just as Yuri sat down, a message from Ender arrived. "Yuri, has Tuss contacted you?"
"Still not found?" Yuri raised an eyebrow.
"No. We went to all the usual places, but he’s not there." Ender was starting to worry.
Knowing Tuss’s capabilities, Yuri was less worried. "Don’t panic too much. The Alliance must have a plan. I heard the grandson of the first commander is also participating in the competition."
Ender, who had received this news earlier, was not surprised. "That junior’s skills are not bad. Have you arrived at the venue yet?"
Yuri shifted her camera and replied, "Yes, I’m here. You guys should come too."
Yuri sent another message to Tuss, letting him know she was in the VIP section of the venue.
About ten minutes later, more people began to trickle into the VIP section. Yuri didn’t recognize any of them, so she stayed in her seat without making a fuss.
What she didn’t realize was that every person who entered the VIP section gave her a curious glance, their eyes clearly asking, Who is she?
A silver-haired old man took a seat next to Yuri.
Unaware, Yuri kept her eyes on her opticomputer, browsing through the campus forum. It was bustling with all sorts of comments.
"I don’t want to watch the competition. I don’t want to see the Alliance lose."
"Dude, don’t be so pessimistic. I heard we’ve got five SS-tier players now. And with Thanos, an S-tier player, we’ve got a good team."
"It doesn’t matter how strong S-tiers are. SS-tier pheromone alone can knock them out."
"Dude, Thanos has been replaced. We have six SS-tier players now, including a sophomore from high school."
"Three college students, two almost-college students, and a high school sophomore, doesn’t sound very impressive."
"All things considered, Tuss is the most reliable. It’s a pity—"
"Tuss is indeed strong. A few days ago, he maneuvered his mecha in the Alpha airspace at an inhuman level. My brother, who has been serving for three years, told me that their 20 mechas combined couldn’t stop him. I personally think Tuss can make it, what do you guys think?"
"Tuss is really strong, but he’s not an alpha now, so he will lose for sure."
"At the end of the day, pheromones are just too powerful. After all, they’re almost like neurotoxins; anyone who’s an omega would be at a disadvantage."
"..."
Yuri found the conversation quite interesting. When she read a point that she found reasonable, she couldn’t help but nod in agreement.
