I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 48: A Great Match
Chapter 48: A Great Match
Yuri’s heat cycle lasted four days. As soon as hers ended, Tuss’s heat period concluded as well.
"Is it a coincidence?" Yuri wondered.
"Perhaps it’s because our compatibility is high," Tuss suggested seriously.
"How can you be sure about our compatibility when we’ve never tested it?" Yuri was skeptical.
"I just feel it. If you don’t believe me, we can get it tested," Tuss responded.
"No need." Yuri’s voice was resolute. She valued her time to rest more than the need for answers.
Having stayed in for a few days, Tuss needed to run some errands. He asked Yuri if she wanted to join him, but she declined, recalling her unfinished lessons.
"By the way, take care of those gems," Yuri reminded him.
"Should I sell them or make them into jewelry?" Tuss asked.
"Sell them," Yuri didn’t hesitate.
Tuss looked at her, puzzled. "Weren’t you fascinated by those gems before?"
"Appreciation doesn’t require possession," Yuri said, acting wise.
Tuss’s eyes became thoughtful, but he didn’t press on. His intuition told him that pushing might result in hearing something he didn’t want to hear. We shared the same bed for days, but as soon as her heat cycle ended, she started to avoid me. Is she trying to return to our old dynamics, treating me like an afterthought?
Tuss scoffed silently. Nice try, Yuri, but that’s not happening.
As Tuss left, Yuri was piloting a mecha around their expansive property, her personal training ground. Part of why she asked for such a large place was to accommodate her mecha training.
Over the past days, she had learned much about mecha manufacturing, and understood the various devices inside a mecha. For instance, a dual-mode mecha like this one could be controlled directly by a beta’s psychic power, whereas an alpha needed a psychic power sensor to channel and convert their power into controls for the mecha.
She had tried using the psychic power sensor, but found it a bit restrictive. It wasn’t as convenient as she’d like.
Examining the thumb-sized sensor, Yuri knew it took an A-tier beta, or higher, several months to construct. Just this tiny device was worth millions of astracredits.
After studying the sensor for a while without making any discoveries, she put it aside.
Yuri had grasped how psychic power controlled a mecha and was now practicing manual operations. Legend had it that proficient mecha pilots could perform better manually than with psychic control.
Thinking of Tuss’s nimble legs, she wondered if her metallic arm could be quicker than her other one.
When Ender, Daleks, and Kilana arrived, they immediately noticed the red and green mecha shadowboxing in the training field.
"What’s Tuz up to? Aerobics?" Daleks naturally assumed Tuss was inside the mecha.
Rubbing his chin, Ender pondered and said, "Could this be how Tuz perfected his impressive movements? To be quick, you must first learn to be slow?"
Kilana nodded, "Indeed, it’s slow. Almost like a beginner."
The three people’s voices were so loud that Yuri, inside the mecha, couldn’t ignore them.
She stepped out of the mecha, landing lightly and announced, "It’s not your ’Tuz’ in the mecha. It’s me."
"Ah, it’s Yuri! I should’ve guessed. No wonder the punches were so smooth and precise. Impressive!" Daleks gave Yuri a thumbs up.
A twitch crossed Yuri’s lips as she struggled to take his flattery seriously. Getting straight to the point, she said, "Tuss isn’t home."
The faces of Daleks, Ender, and Kilana all exchanged glances.
Noticing the fleeting concern on their faces, Yuri asked, "Is something urgent?"
Glancing at the time, Ender responded, "Not exactly."
Yuri invited them inside and then sent a message to Tuss.
"It’s not a secret, really. A delegation from the Empire arrived, accompanied by over twenty students. They’ve proposed a match with our students," Ender shared.
"Did the people from the Empire come for starstones?" Yuri asked, surprised. "How much would that cost? Wouldn’t the Alliance never agree to it, regardless of the price?"
"Indeed," Ender nodded. "However, that’s not our concern."
"Do you want Tuss to participate in the match?" Yuri guessed their purpose.
"There are only three SS-tier alphas in all four military schools. They’ve brought six," Ender revealed, his face serious.
"We used to have four," Daleks chimed in. Everyone knew why there was one less now.
Yuri glanced at Daleks, saying, "He should be no less than SS-tier now."
"That’s unconfirmed. He didn’t get his tier tested. The teacher won’t let him participate without it," Daleks replied.
"When does the match start?" Just testing tier shouldn’t take much time.
"Three o’clock in the afternoon," Ender, Daleks, and Kilana answered in unison.
Glancing at the time, it was already noon. They didn’t have much time left. Yuri asked, "Didn’t you try to contact him in advance?"
"We couldn’t reach him," Ender answered, or else they wouldn’t have visited directly.
Yuri checked her opticomputer, indeed, Tuss hadn’t replied. She wondered aloud, "Did he go to a signal-blocking area?"
Ender and the others fell silent, considering the possibility.
Planning to split up and find Tuss, they all decided to check different places Tuss might be. When it was Yuri’s turn, she said, "I’ll just wander around. Let me know if you find him."
"Why don’t you head to Military Academy No. 1 and wait for us there? You can also watch the match," Ender suggested.
Yuri didn’t seem very interested. In her past life, she was either battling zombies or fighting for territory and crystal cores. After so much fighting, she wasn’t particularly excited by this.
"There should be a mecha competition," Ender tried to pique her interest.
At the mention of mecha, Yuri’s eyes lit up.
She wasn’t interested in hand-to-hand combat, but mechas? Definitely.
However, Yuri’s mecha hadn’t been officially registered on Planet Alpha yet, and she didn’t have the permission to fly it here. So, she had to rely on levs for transportation.
The journey from the mansion to Military Academy No. 1 cost Yuri over a hundred astracredits. She frowned when she saw the price.
Despite it being a holiday, there were still many people in the military school. There were no guards; entrance and exit were granted by scanning their genetic codes.
Yuri followed the crowd, lining up to enter the school.
"How can our three SS-tier compete against their six?"
"If only Tuss still had his leg, he could take on three of them alone."
"It’s a shame. I didn’t want to come initially, didn’t want to see the Alliance lose."
"Didn’t Thanos step up? He’s not weak, he’s the strongest in the S-tier."
"But he’s still just S-tier."
"Don’t you guys know? The first commander’s grandson also got into Military Academy No. 1 this year. He’s also SS-tier."
"Wow, the first commander’s grandson? He must be really good, right?"
"He’s just as strong as Tuss, if not stronger."
"......"
The conversation up ahead was heating up.
Yuri gave a light snort, because the phrase "just as strong as Tuss, if not stronger" irritated her.
