I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 182: Learning Together
Chapter 182: Learning Together
After Yuri ended her conversation with Officer Lyao, she quickly started searching for educational tutorials about various types of battleships in the military’s internal system.
The cockpit of a battleship had hundreds of buttons and just as many instructions. Even with her psychic powers to aid her, getting familiar with everything would take some time.
On top of that, she still had to repair her mechas and learn how to create psychic sensors.
Yuri felt an urgent need to study intensively, she was so focused that she didn’t even notice when Tuss walked into the room.
Seeing this, Tuss could only shake his head in helplessness before turning to leave the room.
As soon as Tuss opened the next room’s door and took a few steps, Daleks and the others rushed at him, pinning him down.
"Tuz, you’re so cool. You’re going to be a dad," Daleks said, half envious and half admiring, his hand wrapped around Tuss’s neck. "I want to be the godfather to your kid, will you let me?"
Tuss looked at him sidelong. "Being a godfather isn’t for free, you have to bring a gift. What can you afford?"
Daleks’ eyes darted around before he said, "I’ll pledge myself to Yuri—"
A sudden wave of animosity locked onto him, and Daleks hurriedly corrected himself. "I mean, I’ll pledge to be Yuri’s subordinate for life. Is that gift good enough?"
Tuss chuckled lightly, "She doesn’t lack for subordinates. There are plenty of people who want to be in her troop. You might not make the cut."
Thinking of the stringent selection process that Yuri had for her army recruits—only one in nearly 40,000 applicants were accepted—Daleks grew anxious. "We’re friends, aren’t we? Pull some strings for me."
"Exactly, pull some strings. You know our abilities, Tuz. We won’t be a problem."
"I’ll be Yuri’s subordinate, no matter what. Tuz, make it happen."
"I won’t go anywhere else but Yuri’s troop."
"Yeah, yeah, we decided on our way here that we’re all joining Yuri’s troop. We want to be the veterans of Yuri’s army."
The entire Alliance had fewer than ten armies, each with tens to hundreds of thousands of soldiers. Even the most talented among Daleks and the others were only of SS-tier, so they knew they could never have their own troops. Instead of joining another army or being a regular soldier somewhere else, they’d rather join Yuri.
She was a beta, powerful, could make money, and had a strong background.
Most importantly, she was the only beta who, even after being thoroughly marked, could enter another alpha’s Sea of Consciousness. If they stayed with her, they would never risk losing control of their Sea of Consciousness.
"What about me? Not one of you wants to join my army?" Tuss asked, his face cold.
Everyone exchanged glances until finally, Hoolin and Tyrone stepped forward.
Hoolin said, "They didn’t want to join my army either."
Tyrone said, "Our class, in fact, everyone in our school wants to join Yuri’s army."
Tuss: "..." He didn’t feel any better.
That night, Yuri and Tuss discussed Officer Lyao’s comment that if they couldn’t learn to operate a battleship in half a month, he would take it back.
"I started learning about battleships a few months ago. I should be able to manage in half a month," Tuss said modestly.
Yuri was dumbfounded. It seemed that the only one who hadn’t considered learning to operate a battleship was her.
"Officer Lyao is just joking with you, he won’t really take it back," Tuss said.
Yuri sighed, "I know. But as the commander of a troop, I have to learn to operate a battleship."
Tuss looked at her in surprise, "I thought you loved learning. Out of all of us, you spend the most time studying."
"I’m feeling a bit lazy right now, like I don’t want to do anything," Yuri flopped onto her bed.
"I’ll study hard and then teach you," Tuss offered.
Yuri considered this, "I’ll come too, and learn whatever I can."
Knowing that the battleship was due to arrive that day, Tuss didn’t go on patrol. After collecting minerals from two large warehouses early in the morning, he stayed home and waited.
Meanwhile, Yuri still went out to repair the mechas.
"Yuri’s doing all that even though she’s pregnant?" Hoolin asked.
Tuss nodded, "The folks at the mecha repair place will watch her, they won’t let her work too long."
"You’re not stopping her?" Daleks asked.
"It’s her choice. I can’t control her under the pretense of doing what’s best for her or the baby. Besides, Yuri knows her limits. If she gets tired, she’ll rest," Tuss explained seriously.
In the afternoon, two battleships arrived at Planet 4581.
One was medium-sized, and the other was small. Both ships had a total of sixteen pilots. A minimum of three people was needed to operate the small battleship, and at least five for the medium-sized one. For Yuri and Tuss to become familiar with every control position on the battleships in just half a month was no small feat.
Yuri, Daleks, and the others were excited as they looked at the two battleships, each of them eager to explore the vessels. The sight of them touching and kissing the ships reminded Tuss of how Yuri had acted the first time she rode a starship.
"Is it necessary? Which one of you hasn’t seen a battleship before?" Tuss asked.
"It’s not the same. This is our battleship, it feels like it belongs to us," Daleks said confidently.
The others nodded in agreement.
Tuss rolled his eyes. Somehow his and Yuri’s battleships had become everyone’s.
"Since that’s the case, let’s all learn to operate the battleship with our teachers," Yuri concluded.
The next day, Daleks and the others were so excited about learning to operate the battleships that they didn’t sleep at all. They spent the entire night going over everything they knew about battleships.
When they woke up, they were as energetic as if they had taken an adrenaline shot, showing no signs of exhaustion.
Seeing their enthusiasm, Yuri was motivated and started to focus on learning as well.
After half a month, all twenty of them had mastered the various control positions on the battleships. It was only a matter of time before they would become completely proficient.
"It was worth the trip," Daleks exclaimed.
The others agreed, "When we get back, we’ll brag about it and make them cry with regret."
"In the meantime, practice as much as you can. When the new recruits arrive, you’ll be responsible for teaching them," Yuri assigned the task to Daleks and the others.
"Roger that, commander," Daleks saluted Yuri.
Yuri suddenly felt some pressure. It seems like I need to find a way to raise my rank, so that I’ll have a chance to recruit new soldiers next year.
Yuri didn’t expect the first, second, and third recruits to report to be familiar faces.
"Edgar, Cass, Priscilla, it’s you," Yuri exclaimed in surprise. "How did you end up here?"
"Everyone wants to be here, including us. We might not be the strongest fighters, but we are competent in other areas. We are here for logistical positions," Edgar explained.
Yuri shook her head, "You guys are not bad in strength either."
When they were mining together, she had seen their skills. They were not top-notch, but they weren’t bad either.
"But compared to those who have also enlisted, our abilities aren’t worth mentioning," Cass added. All the mecha soldiers were alphas, they, being omegas, didn’t have a competitive advantage.
"But we will train hard and constantly improve ourselves, so as not to let our army down," Priscilla declared loudly.
