I Married A Degraded Alpha
Chapter 170: Asking for Her Help

Chapter 170: Asking for Her Help

Yuri had never been taught to skin insectoids, but her blade, sharp and obedient, almost seemed to follow her heart’s commands. The creature’s skin was cleanly peeled off without a shred of damage. It was perfection.

"Yuri must’ve been trained to do this."

"You can’t develop this kind of skill without a decade of practice."

"Yuri isn’t even twenty yet. It must be natural talent."

"It’s practically art. Even a scaredy-cat like me can only see its beauty, not the blood."

"Indeed, even a gruesome task looks less frightening with her doing it."

"...."

The live chat was filled with similar praises.

All the intact insectoid skins were saved by Yuri, skipping over the severely damaged ones. She continued until her dimensional button was packed to the brim, then she finally stopped.

"Now we have to deal with these four mechas," Yuri said, walking around the four basic-model machines. Knowing that their previous operators were never returning, she figured even basic models like these would be worth at least five million astracredits each.

"That’s twenty million in total. It’d be a waste to just leave them here. Let’s take them back," Yuri decided.

The viewers in the live chat room were curious about how she would transport four mechas.

In the next moment, they watched as Yuri used a metal chain to bind the four mechas together.

As the red and green mecha rose into the sky, pulling the four others behind, the viewers held their breath until they entered space, then their hearts finally settled.

"I’m tired. I’m going to sleep. See you all tomorrow," said Yuri.

"No, no, no, don’t end the stream. You sleep, and we’ll just hang out here."

"Yeah, don’t mind us. We’ll just enjoy the view of space."

"You get your rest. We’ll watch on our end."

"..."

Seeing the strong requests from her viewers, Yuri decided to keep the stream running and went to sleep on her own.

"These folks aren’t here for the view. They just want to make sure Yuri reaches her destination safely," Daleks said with a snort.

"With so many people caring about her, shouldn’t you be touched?" Ender teased.

"Hmph," Daleks grumbled, "Tuz hasn’t shown up all day. Yuri’s about to be stolen."

Ender raised an eyebrow, "By who?"

"The number one fan in Yuri’s rankings," Daleks grumbled.

Ender chuckled, patting Daleks on the head, "You forgot? Tuz has completely marked Yuri now. No one can split them up."

Daleks still frowned, "Tuz is not acting like a reliable alpha."

Ender: "..."

Yuri slept all the way back to her station, awakened by the mecha’s alert sound. Upon waking, she checked her livestream. The viewer count hadn’t decreased. In fact, it had increased by a few thousand.

Is the view really that amazing? Yuri wondered.

"That’s it for today, see you all tomorrow." Yuri waved to her viewers and ended the live stream.

First, she took the four mechas to the maintenance area. The old technician, seeing her pull in four giant machines, asked curiously, "Are they all broken?"

"No," Yuri shook her head and summarized the day’s events, leaving out the dangerous parts.

"Do you think there’s something dangerous inside these?" the old technician asked.

"That’s right. Can you check that for me?"

"Of course, don’t underestimate me. Let me teach you how to identify dangers in a mecha."

Yuri spent the entire afternoon in the mecha maintenance area, only returning home when it was dark.

When Yuri opened the door, the house was completely dark; Tuss hadn’t returned yet. Checking her opticomputer, she saw a message from Tuss an hour ago, informing her he’d be home late.

At this moment, Yuri felt an emptiness. Though she hadn’t been upset during her perilous encounter earlier, the sight of the empty house left her feeling lonely and upset.

The unexpected gloomy mood hit her hard, leaving her defenseless. Yuri felt drained, even the simple act of blinking seemed tiring.

Her opticomputer buzzed at this moment.

Slowly, Yuri turned to the device and saw Ron’s name. She hesitated for three seconds, then answered the call.

"Officer Yuri, could I ask a favor of you?" Ron’s voice was filled with unease, as well as a hint of undeniable anxiety.

"What is it?" Yuri straightened up.

"My sister hasn’t contacted me in two days, and I can’t reach her either. Could you help me check my house?" Ron asked.

Yuri fell silent. Honestly, she didn’t want to go; she didn’t feel like doing anything right now.

On the other end of the opticomputer, Ron’s breath became more cautious, "My sister and I are orphans. I couldn’t find anyone else to help, that’s why I turned to you. If you’re busy, I can hire someone else to check. I’m sorry for the disturbance."

Yuri rubbed her forehead, "Send me your address and your sister’s phone number."

Ron was relieved, "I’ll send them right away. Thank you, I really appreciate it."

The number of people living near the 458 Defense Line was sparse. Within a kilometer of Ron and his sister’s house, there were no other houses, no neighbors. It was out of desperation that he turned to Yuri.

Following the coordinates sent by Ron, Yuri piloted the mecha and arrived at the destination in less than ten minutes.

Under the mecha’s light, Yuri saw an old bungalow. It was dark inside, and it wasn’t clear if anyone was home.

Once Yuri got out of the mecha, she detected a faint smell of lilies.

Where does the scent of lilies come from this season? Yuri sniffed carefully and exclaimed in surprise, "This is the scent of beta pheromones. Ron’s sister is a beta?"

That can’t be right. The Alliance provide a monthly subsidy to betas, two thousand astracredits a month until they turn twenty-five. With this steady income, their living conditions shouldn’t have been so tough. Yuri walked up and knocked on the door. The knocking sounds seemed particularly abrupt in the quiet night.

A minute passed without a response.

"Sonia, your brother Ron sent me to check on you," Yuri called out loudly.

Inside, Sonia heard a woman’s voice accurately mentioning both her and her brother’s names. Her defenses lessened quite a bit, but she still didn’t come to open the door.

"Your brother is in the hospital," Yuri added.

There was a sound of a chair toppling inside the house, and the next second, the lights in the house turned on and a flurry of footsteps approached.

Creak—

The door opened.

A frail little girl appeared behind the door, her eyes wide and eager, "My brother is in the hospital?"

"Yes. He’s in the hospital, but his life is not in danger. Let’s go inside to talk more," Yuri said, not waiting for Sonia’s invitation before stepping inside.

Sonia’s gaze was still full of caution, and when Yuri wasn’t looking, she sneakily sent a message to her brother. However, her little actions could not be concealed from Yuri, who, however, kindly pretended not to notice.

Sonia invited Yuri to sit in the living room and was about to get up to fetch her some water.

"No need, you’re in the middle of differentiation. You should rest properly and not move around too much," Yuri said.

Sonia’s face changed, "You, you... How do you know... Are you an alpha?"

Yuri glanced at her and took suppressants out of her dimensional button, injecting them into her arm, "I’m not an alpha, I’m a beta."
