I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 169: Safe and Sound
Chapter 169: Safe and Sound
A deafening sound rang out from the livestream, followed by a blackout. The stream was cut off, and nothing could be seen.
"What just happened?"
"It was a bombing, idiot."
"Is Yuri okay? Did anyone call the police?"
"Were those men even human?"
"I couldn’t see clearly in the darkness, but I’m certain that when Yuri cut off the man’s arm, there was no blood."
"I went back and watched the replay, indeed there was no blood."
"So, it was those seven men who detonated the bombs. Seven humanoid bombs."
"Damn it, it was the same at Military Academy No. 1 hospital. But that was a living person exploding."
"It must have been the work of the Empire. They came to take revenge on Yuri."
"Revenge?"
"......"
In the military headquarters, Officer Lyao frowned deeply, "Have we contacted Tuss?"
"No," a sergeant answered, his expression anxious.
"Contact all our posts in that area and tell them to send people to look for her," ordered Officer Lyao in a grave voice.
"Yes, sir." The sergeant immediately pulled up the contact information for all the posts on the 458 Defense Line.
Inside Military Academy No. 1, Ender, Daleks, Hoolin, and others were trying to reach Tuss on their opticomputers, but without exception, there was no response.
"I’m going crazy," Daleks said, his eyes reddening.
"The people of the Empire are so malicious," Hoolin cursed.
"Yuri probably expected the Empire to seek revenge. Let’s stay calm, maybe she had preparations in place," Ender suggested. He thought of Tuss during the hospital incident, protecting herself with metal. Perhaps, Yuri had other ways to protect herself.
Yuri indeed was prepared. The moment the explosion happened, she took a thick metal turtle shell from her dimensional button. Tuss had crafted it by merging several types of the hardest metals together into a protective shield.
Apart from the metal turtle shell, Yuri also used Enova to thoroughly shield herself. When the explosion occurred, all she felt was a violent shake and a buzzing noise, nothing more.
As everything gradually calmed down around her, Yuri tried to move the turtle shell. The first two times, she failed even with significant force. On the third try, using all her strength, the shell budged.
Yuri understood that the mountain must have collapsed in the explosion. With so many rocks and snow from the mountain, she must have been buried quite deeply.
After some thought, Yuri took all the metal from her dimensional button, and used Enova to control the metals, merging them into a long metal rod that extended upward, continuously extending...
Luckily, she had asked Officer Lyao for a lot of materials earlier; otherwise, she wouldn’t know where to find so much metal now.
When the metal rod met no resistance in its extension, Yuri knew it must have broken through to the surface.
In the next moment, under the control of Enova, a metallic rod as thick as an adult’s thigh started to expand, turning from solid to hollow at a visible speed, eventually becoming a wide metal pipe. The inside of the pipe was smooth, with a diameter of thirty to forty centimeters.
Yuri packed up the metal turtle shell and stepped into the pipe.
She took a deep breath and said, "That was close. Next time, I need to store more metal in the dimensional button. At critical moments, it can save my life."
Yuri’s hands rested on the smooth inner wall of the metal pipe. Despite there being no solid grip, it felt like her hands were firmly glued, allowing her to easily climb up.
She was glad no one saw it; otherwise, they would probably start questioning their reality.
In about twenty meters of depth, Yuri managed to climb to the surface in half a minute.
Her first action upon reaching the surface was to crush the pipe into a ball and store it in her dimensional button. Then she checked her opticomputer, which had a pile of missed calls and unread messages.
Yuri replied to all of them: I’m fine.
Afterward, she restarted the livestream.
As soon as she reopened the stream, countless users poured in. The number kept increasing, breaking one million in less than three seconds, ten million in ten seconds, and it continued to rise.
Yuri watched the numbers jump in shock, reaching a hundred million in less than a minute.
Inside the livestream, people’s comments were densely packed, all concerned about her safety.
"Is this Yuri?"
"Is Yuri okay?"
"Did you get hurt?"
"Why is there no sound? Are you okay?"
"Did the enemy find Yuri’s opticomputer?"
"..."
Seeing the number of online users break two hundred million, Yuri went numb, stopped looking at the number, and turned her attention to the screen comments, calmly replying, "It’s not the enemy. I’m the one streaming."
As if fearing that the viewers wouldn’t believe her, she pointed the camera at her face.
"Damn. A full-screen face. Scared me to death."
"Wow, not a speck of dirt, still so smooth, only delicate fluff visible."
"So, it’s totally understandable to mistake you for an android."
"Reminder from the students of Military Academy No. 1, don’t bring that android mistake up again. Shame on us."
"Yuri, are you injured?"
Yuri moved the camera further away to let everyone see her whole figure, "Can you tell if I’m injured?"
"Clothes are neat, no bloodstains. You should be fine."
"Then, I’m fine," Yuri stated, turning towards the mecha lying not far away. Seven men, four mecha, all here.
"Yuri, don’t go near. There might still be bombs."
"The enemy is cunning. Be careful, Yuri."
After some thought, Yuri agreed with the viewers, "Then I won’t check them out. I’ll just transport them back directly."
Looking at the insectoids corpses scattered all around, she added, "These shouldn’t be wasted either."
"Yuri, can you handle so many?" The viewers expressed their concern.
Yuri remembered that she had given Tuss four dimensional buttons last night, and now she only had two left. One stored the red and green mecha she was piloting, and the other stored various precious metals and some medicine, life supplies, and such.
She could use the dimensional button that stored the mecha, but she didn’t want to use the one storing medicine and daily necessities, not wanting these corpses to dirty her items.
"Why not just skin them and keep the fur?" Yuri muttered to herself, then turned to the viewers on the livestream, suggesting, "The following scenes might get a bit bloody. Should we close the stream and meet again tomorrow?"
"One billion online viewers, you sure you want to shut down? You know how much money you’ll be missing?" A user hit Yuri with a soul-piercing question.
"We’ll send you gifts to comfort you."
"Keep streaming, we’re not afraid of the blood."
The next moment, various gifts were bombarded in the livestream. A viewer named Officer was especially generous, sending twenty warships all at once.
"How much is twenty warships?"
"One warship is a hundred thousand astracredit, so twenty warships would be two million."
"Rich."
"...."
In the military building, the tense atmosphere was instantly swept away.
"Officer, do we still need to send people to find Commander Yuri?" Officer Lyao’s assistant asked.
"No need, call them all back."
