Chapter 168: [Bonus Chapter] A Murder

In the public channel, the users’ expressions grew complex as they listened to the public conversation.

"Yuri’s here. What more do you want?"

"How powerful is Yuri’s firepower? Just look at the level 8 insectoids and you’ll know."

"Thank goodness I surf the Interstellarnet often. Otherwise, in a crisis, I wouldn’t know who to call for help. That’d be terrible."

"That’s why it’s important to keep up with the news. Even if you just watch military reports, you wouldn’t be clueless about who Yuri is."

"..."

The users were rubbing their hands together in anticipation, eager to see how Yuri would put their boss in his place.

Meanwhile, the boss was still blustering, "Why aren’t you talking? If you can’t handle it, lend me your mecha. If I had even a level-five or 6 weapon, I’d have charged in already."

"Boss, just be quiet," a guy finally protested.

"You’re the one who needs to shut up. Hey, you, lady patrol officer, what are you doing standing there? Hurry up and hand over your mecha. I’ll go handle this."

"Boss, please, just be quiet."

"Boss, don’t you notice? The level-five insectoid isn’t moving anymore. It’s dead."

Hearing this, the boss turned to look at the level-five insectoid. He was taken aback. The once imposing level-five insectoid was now still.

"What’s going on?" he muttered.

"The lady patrol officer you’ve been ignoring is the most powerful beta in the galaxy. What do you think happened?" a user answered.

"While you’re considering weapons, her psychic power took it out in a flash. She didn’t even need weapons."

The boss still didn’t believe it. "Is she really that powerful?"

"See for yourself."

The boss hesitated for three seconds, then moved his mecha closer to the level-five insectoid. But someone was faster. Before he could touch the insectoid, a red and green mecha grabbed the insectoid’s tail and hauled it away.

"Anything else, or can I continue my patrol?" Yuri asked.

"No, that’s it. Thanks for the save, officer."

"Officer, please don’t be mad."

"Yeah, it’s not worth getting worked up over our boss."

Yuri glanced at the other mechas in the area, then nonchalantly responded, "What did your boss say earlier? I didn’t hear him."

With that, she dragged the massive level-five insectoid away, back the way she came.

In the public chat room, the boss hesitated before finally asking, "Is she really that powerful?"

"I’ll show you her feats when we get back."

"After seeing them, you’ll probably be smacking your forehead in regret."

"It can’t be that bad, can it?" the boss doubted.

"You’ll see."

"..."

The voices grew quieter, then completely faded as the distance increased.

Yuri dragged the level-five insectoid’s carcass leisurely, cruising until she reached her next station. She then promptly sold the insectoid’s body.

Although this level-five insectoid was massive, part of its fur had been scorched and it had patches of different colors. Therefore, the price for its fur wasn’t as high as the level-four insectoid Yuri had sold a couple of days ago. However, due to its massive size, weighing in at over thirty tons, the meat, bones, and teeth fetched a fair price.

With an addition of 1.2 million astracredits to her account, Yuri grinned and continued her unfinished patrol mission.

The audience in the live chat was astounded.

"Yuri makes money so quickly."

"To Yuri, money is just a bunch of numbers."

"I work from dawn to dusk every day and only make seven thousand a month."

"Me too, seven thousand."

"Think about it, a single mecha costs tens of millions to a billion. After a battle, hundreds, if not thousands of mechas are damaged. So in comparison, Yuri’s earnings aren’t that much."

"Dang, suddenly I feel comforted. Yuri is actually kind of poor."

"Also, aside from Yuri, no one else makes money this quickly. Many soldiers are really poor. If they’re not spending money on their mechas, they’re paying betas to groom their Sea of Consciousness."

"..."

By the time Yuri had finished her patrol route, an urgent distress signal sounded in her mecha again.

Upon answering, a frantic voice came through, "Is this a patrol soldier? We’re under attack by a small group of insectoids. We need backup."

"Send me your location, I’m on my way," Yuri immediately responded.

"Okay, I’m sending it now. Please hurry," the voice begged.

Checking the distance, Yuri said, "I’ll be there in five minutes."

With that, her red and green mecha shot off like a beam of light.

"It’s not a peaceful day in space."

"It clearly shows the risk level of being an insect hunter."

"Yuri’s as busy as a bee, constantly on the road rescuing others."

"Rescuing people and making money on the side, sounds good."

The location was on a planet. Upon arrival, Yuri first saw several mechas on the ground and numerous insectoid bodies everywhere.

Where are the people? Yuri wondered.

Just as she was about to unleash her psychic power, she heard gunfire and roaring sounds not far off.

Following the sounds, she quickly spotted a cave with flickering lights inside. Why did they run into the cave?

Not having time to think, Yuri saw the cave entrance was too small for her mecha. She exited, grabbed a knife, and rushed in.

In the depths of the cave, seven men were rapidly firing at a group of toothy rodents the size of adults.

Judging by how well the men were handling the situation, Yuri frowned, why did they call for help?

A strange feeling welled up inside Yuri. Just then, one of the men spoke up, "What are you waiting for? Come help."

Yuri stood still and responded, "You guys don’t look like you need any help."

"Are you the new patrol officer?" A man approached Yuri. At two meters tall, he loomed over her.

Yuri didn’t want to look up at him and instinctively stepped back to put some distance between them.

However, the moment she moved, the man did too.

Not just him, but the other six behind him as well. One second their guns were pointed at the insectoids, and the next they were aiming at her.

While using Enova to shield herself, Yuri tried to flee. However, the man nearest to her grabbed hold of her, showing a strange smile.

His hand didn’t feel human, but more like the claw of an insectoid, incredibly strong and devoid of any warmth.

Something was seriously wrong.

As the man smiled at her, a strong sense of danger crept over Yuri. A voice in her mind told her to run. She had to escape.

Disregarding the danger of exposing her Enova, Yuri commanded her blade to sever the man’s arm.

"You can’t escape, you must die today," the man continued to smile.

Looking at his severed arm, Yuri noticed there was not a single drop of blood.

They weren’t human.

Yuri stepped back, but before she could make it out of the cave, seven earth-shattering explosions sounded one after another. The entire mountain was bombed into flat ground.
