I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 157: Regrets
Chapter 157: Regrets
If meeting Astra, Zenitha, and Electra had cooled Yuri’s intention of becoming friends with Suki, then sitting her, Tuss, Daleks, and Kilana at the same table as them made her truly resentful.
If this weren’t Ender’s engagement party, Yuri would have left already.
Yuri wore a sour look, avoiding eye contact with Astra, Zenitha, and Electra. She even lacked interest in the engaged couple.
Tuss seemed cold too.
Daleks made his displeasure clear, furrowing his brow throughout the event.
Even Kilana, known for her aloofness, looked particularly unhappy.
A question gnawed at all of them: who has arranged these seats? Is it Ender? Or Suki?
Nearby, Ender noticed their discomfort and frowned, "Did you invite Astra, Zenitha, and Electra, Suki?"
Suki maintained a calm demeanor, replying with surprise, "Why not? Astra’s my friend, and Zenitha and Electra were introduced to me by her. We’ve chatted together. I find them to be decent people."
Ender stared at Suki, for a moment questioning whether this was the same girl he’d known since childhood.
"Why are you looking at me like that? Did I say something wrong?" Suki held Ender’s gaze.
Ender felt a sudden chill, "The Quillon and Quasar families recently hired people to post comments on Interstellarnet, urging the Alliance to trade Yuri for a starstone. They defamed and mocked Yuri."
"That makes sense," Suki feigned surprise, "They told me they had a misunderstanding with Yuri. They asked me to sit them at the same table, so they could apologize to her and seek her forgiveness."
"And you just agreed? An apology solves everything?" Ender’s heart sank completely. Perhaps this engagement was too hasty. He regretted it.
"The Quillon and Quasar families only had people say some words. Their members who were officials lost their positions, those in lower ranks were demoted, even their family business has been affected. Isn’t that punishment enough?" Suki frowned slightly.
Ender chuckled, "So you knew about this."
Ender’s laughter made Suki uncomfortable, "What do you mean? You’re mad at me over Yuri, at our engagement party?"
"Yuri isn’t just Tuz’s wife, she saved my life, more than once. You knew about her feud with Astra, yet you didn’t even ask, just placed them at the same table. Was that appropriate?" Ender’s low voice was filled with anger.
In a soft voice filled with disbelief, Suki retorted, "Today is our engagement. Why do you keep bringing up Yuri?"
Ender felt like he was trying to teach a pig to sing, a futile effort. He was overwhelmed with a feeling of helplessness, "Suki, I think we may have rushed into this engagement. What do you think?"
Suki’s eyes welled up with tears, "All this because of a seating arrangement?"
"No, it’s just that through this, I’ve seen our differences. It’s better to end the mistake now than suffer later." As Ender spoke, he tore the boutonniere from his suit.
"Ender, if you do this, I’ll be the joke of Planet Alpha tomorrow. If you weren’t willing, why did you agree?" Suki’s tears started to fall.
Ender clenched his fists, "I can play along for the rest of the day, and apologize to your family afterward. And Suki, the main reason I agreed to this engagement was out of respect for your grandfather. I thought his granddaughter would be just like him. But I was wrong."
Suki’s face turned as white as a sheet. She tried to explain, but Ender didn’t give her a chance and walked away.
Yuri and her friends hadn’t missed this scene. Yuri and Tuss had even overheard their conversation.
"It seems that not all hasty marriages end happily," Yuri sighed.
"I thought you’d feel guilty," Tuss joked.
"Different paths lead to different ends. Even without me, their issues would have surfaced, causing more trouble." Yuri shrugged. She was just the trigger, not the main cause.
Across the table, Zenitha gathered her courage, poured herself a drink, stood up, and said to Yuri, "I apologize for what our Quasar family did a while ago, Mrs. Hiro. I hope you can forgive us."
Regardless of Yuri’s reaction, Zenitha finished her drink in one gulp.
Everyone at the table knew what was going on, and their faces reflected varied emotions.
Once Zenitha was done, Astra stood up, repeated the same apology, and also drank a glass of wine.
"Sorry, I don’t drink," Yuri responded calmly, frowning slightly. The scent Zenitha and Astra were wearing was a bit too strong. Every move they made sent the smell her way.
Zenitha and Astra looked displeased. Not only did Yuri refuse their drinks, but she also seemed to disdain them.
Who does she think she is? Just an illegitimate child. At this point, Zenitha and Astra didn’t care whether Yuri forgave them or not. They stomped away, and Electra hurried after them.
The moment the three of them left, the atmosphere at the table instantly improved.
"The air is much cleaner," Daleks commented.
"I thought I was the only one who noticed. It was suffocating. How can anyone use such strong perfume," Tyrone complained.
"Let’s not talk about them anymore, they’re buzzkills," Hoolin waved his hand dismissively. He poured himself another drink and suggested, "I’m getting hungry. Shall we get some food?"
"What do you want to eat? I’ll get it for you," Tuss offered to Yuri.
Yuri shrugged nonchalantly, "You decide. I’m not in the mood for anything sweet today."
Tuss carried two plates, grabbing a portion of almost every dish available.
"Tuss~"
Zenitha stood in front of Tuss, her eyes welling up, "I sincerely wanted to apologize to Yuri earlier. Our Quasar family realizes our mistake, and we’ve also been punished..."
Tuss was uninterested in her spiel and walked past her.
Zenitha stood rooted to the spot, feeling like she needed a mirror at that moment to make sure she hadn’t turned into some ugly toad which people couldn’t helping running away from.
As Tuss walked past Zenitha, his nose twitched. Did Zenitha’s perfume change again?
When Tuss returned to his seat, he found that Yuri was no longer there.
"Suki said she had something to discuss with Yuri and took her away," Daleks explained voluntarily.
Tuss furrowed his brow, asking, "Where did they go?"
"Why, are you afraid that Suki will mistreat Yuri?" Tyrone raised an eyebrow.
"She wouldn’t dare," Daleks dismissed with disdain.
"Tuz, don’t worry, let them talk," Kilana reassured.
Tuss nodded, setting down the food-filled plates. He hadn’t touched a single dish from the two plates.
Twenty minutes passed...
A hint of worry surfaced in Tuss’s heart, and he asked again, "Which way did they go?"
Tyrone and the others also thought that the time was unusually long, and they pointed in the direction, saying, "Over there."
