I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 156: Ender’s Engagement
Chapter 156: Ender’s Engagement
Yuri and Tuss spent a grueling half a month on the border.
After defeating the last of the insectoids, Yuri collapsed in her mecha, completely drained of energy.
"Yuri?"
"Sergeant Yuri?"
"Officer Yuri?"
Concerned voices echoed from the public communication channel.
"I’m okay...just catching my breath," Yuri responded, sounding utterly drained.
Hearing this, the team let out collective sighs of relief. One voice chimed in, "I almost thought you’d never get tired."
Everyone agreed. After all, for half a month, they had been working around the clock, sleeping only four hours a day and spending the rest fighting insectoids. Only Tuss could keep up with her pace.
"Mecha need maintenance, and I need rest. Someone, drag me back," Yuri commanded, not wanting to move anymore.
As soon as her words came out, another red-green mecha approached, taking her by the hand and flying her back to the ship.
By the time Yuri and Tuss returned to Planet Alpha, half of the term had passed, and midterms were just a week away.
Unfortunately, the day before midterms, their heat period and heat cycle came, which only justified their excuse to postpone their exam.
Yuri was locked in her room, with Tuss attending to her, flipping and adjusting her. All the while she uttered her innermost feelings, "I’d rather be taking the exams."
Tuss bit her swollen lips, correcting her, "No, you wouldn’t."
Yuri looked into his eyes, smoldering with determination, and conceded, "Well, maybe a little."
Dissatisfied, Tuss insisted, "It must be my fault for not taking care of you properly. Let’s do it again."
Yuri pushed him away and bolted for the door, but Tuss was faster. Before she reached the door, he pulled her back.
"You seem to have a lot of energy, Yuri. Let’s continue."
"You’re such an animal—"
Maybe because this time, they not only exchanged pheromones but also deeply communicated, their heat period and heat cycle ended early, only lasting three days.
The fourth day happened to be the holiday after the midterms of Military Academy No. 1, so Yuri and Tuss still didn’t need to go to school.
"My engagement party is tomorrow night," Ender sent them a message.
Yuri: "Did Ender send the message to the wrong people?"
Tuss: "I’ll ask him."
Just as Tuss messaged Ender, the next second, Ender’s communication request came through.
Tuss clicked to accept and asked, "You’re getting engaged? Do you even have a girlfriend?"
Before Ender had a chance to respond, more calls started coming in. Daleks, Kilana, Hoolin, Vernon, and others joined the call, turning it into a group chat.
"Ender, you sly fox, you kept it so secret."
"I thought we were all single."
"Thought we were brothers. You didn’t even tell us about your girlfriend."
"This isn’t fair. We go to class together, eat together, share a dorm room, why didn’t I know you had a girlfriend?"
"Tell the truth. Is this an online relationship?"
Everyone started peppering Ender with questions.
Ender twitched the corner of his mouth, responding helplessly, "No online romance, and no secret. It’s an arranged match, decided by my family."
Everyone went silent, staring at Ender in shock.
"A business marriage?"
"Arranged without meeting each other?"
"You agreed?"
Ender rubbed his forehead, "Not exactly blind. She’s my grandpa’s war buddy’s daughter. The two old men struck a deal, and we were tested for compatibility on the spot."
"So, you agreed?"
"What was the compatibility?"
"Is she pretty? You didn’t fall for her looks, did you?"
"Did she agree?"
Their eyes sparkled with curiosity.
Again, Ender rubbed his forehead, displaying an air of resignation, "The compatibility is eighty-five percent, she’s fairly pretty, and an A-tier beta. Also, we’ve met many times before, so we are familiar with each other’s character. It’s not just about her looks."
"Is there a possibility that she fell for your looks?" Yuri suddenly asked.
Ender’s face stiffened.
"Dang, Yuri hit the nail on the head."
"She really fell for your looks?"
"Not bad, getting a wife based on your looks."
"Envious."
"Wish my parents had given me a good-looking face. Then I’d be married by now."
"..."
Ender had enough. He left the time and place for the engagement party, and promptly ended the communication.
Yuri looked at Tuss, "Ender wasn’t forced into this, was he?"
Tuss looked at her in surprise, "Who could force him? Do you think Ender is someone who could be swayed to make decisions about his life?"
Yuri shook her head, "Not really. But it does seem a bit sudden, their engagement."
"Ours was even more sudden." Tuss said regretfully, "Should we have another wedding?" The previous one was too rushed, not grand enough for his beloved Yuri.
The more Tuss thought about it, the more he felt they should have another celebration.
Yuri shook her head with apprehension, "No, there’s no need."
"Are you sure?" Tuss asked seriously.
"I’m sure." Yuri was adamant.
Tuss looked disappointed.
Less than an hour after the call ended, Ender showed up at their door.
"I’m here to hand out invitations," Ender said.
Tuss was skeptical, "Invitations are just an excuse. What’s your main purpose?"
Caught by Tuss, Ender went straight to Yuri, "Yuri, could you help me sort out my Sea of Consciousness again?"
"Your Sea of Consciousness isn’t in chaos, is it?" Yuri asked, puzzled.
"Probably because he’s engaged now, and he has his own beta. He’s afraid to ask you to sort his Sea of Consciousness later, it might hurt his beta’s feelings," Tuss explained.
Ender’s face heated up, looking a bit embarrassed.
Yuri nodded, "No problem. Let’s start now."
Although not many people were invited to the engagement party, the two families were massive. The sheer number of family members made the event seem very lively.
The bride, Suki, was the same age as Ender, both 22, and studied finance at a business school.
Suki didn’t have the type of appearance that would turn heads at first glance, instead she had a more delicate beauty. But she carried an air of gentle grace, and her voice was as refreshing as a breeze, making people feel comfortable around her.
"Yuri, Suki must have fallen for Ender’s looks," Daleks whispered into Yuri’s ear.
Yuri turned to look at him and said, "You’re not bad-looking either, how come you haven’t met a beta who falls for your face?"
Caught off guard, Daleks responded with defiance, "Fate hasn’t arrived yet. Maybe one day I’ll get married all of a sudden and give you all a shock."
Yuri replied, "I’m looking forward to it."
Ender invited his classmates and friends, and Suki did the same. Among them were Astra, Zenitha, and Electra.
Seeing this, Yuri raised an eyebrow, and immediately lost the intention of going up and greeting Suki.
When Daleks saw Astra and the others, he frowned deeply, "Is Ender’s fiancée really okay?"
After all, birds of a feather flock together. The fact that she was friends with Astra and Zenitha suggested that there were similarities between them and Suki.
