I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 136: The Coveted Yuri
Chapter 136: The Coveted Yuri
On her first day living in the mansion, Yuri encountered Nero and Tuss’s father, whom she hadn’t seen for quite some time.
"Officer Lyao only let us two in," Nero grumbled.
Yuri paused, then responded in a chilly tone, "What are you here for? Do you think they’ve come to visit me out of genuine concern?"
Nero instinctively wanted to argue, but considering Yuri’s status now, he swallowed his anger, replying, "We share the same blood."
"So, I haven’t mentioned to others that our relationship isn’t great. Aren’t you guys just enjoying the benefits that came after my fame?"
Nero’s face stiffened, and he fell silent.
He had always ignored this daughter of his, even marrying her off to the legless Tuss Hiro after she lost an arm, switching out the elder daughter who was originally set to wed Tuss.
He was the one who gave up on her first.
Yuri’s resentment towards him, towards the Cheng family, was understandable.
But now Tuss was an SSS-tier alpha, and she herself had become an SSS-tier beta. The facts showed that they were indeed a match made in heaven. So why hasn’t her resentment faded? Nero wondered.
Yuri didn’t bother to look at Nero’s confused expression or his reproachful gaze. She got straight to the point, "I know you’re here to let me groom your Sea of Consciousness. So let’s get started, I’ve got class soon."
Ten minutes later, Nero fell asleep on the mansion’s couch. Yuri and Tuss left for their classes.
"Yuri, here. This is your seat," Sagato pointed to the seat in the middle of the front row.
Yuri shook her head in resignation, "I can sit anywhere, there’s no need for this."
"No way. You’re a treasure for us now, you deserve some privilege. Don’t worry, everyone agrees," Sagato turned to the classmates and asked, "Right?"
"Yes!" The classmates shouted.
Yuri sternly replied, "Even if you treat me this way, when it’s time to comb through the Sea of Consciousness, I won’t do it for free."
"Astracredit is no big deal, as long as you, Yuri, have time."
"Exactly, two thousand astracredit isn’t a big deal. I’ll transfer it to you right now."
"I’ll transfer too. You can’t back out once you’ve accepted the money. Of course, if you do back out, there’s nothing I can do. I’ll just consider it as if I bought you a few bottles of Nutrient Fluids."
Yuri’s mouth twitched as she saw thirty-four deposits of astracredit show up in her account.
Coincidentally, that number matched the count of alphas in her class.
Yuri: "....."
During that class, Yuri multitasked, combing through the Sea of Consciousness for her classmates while attending the lecture. Her classmates’ Sea of Consciousness all had varying degrees of mental disturbances, but nothing severe, making it simple to handle.
"Yuri, how about I skip teaching this lesson so you can comb through my Sea of Consciousness too?" The teacher on the podium suggested with a friendly smile.
Yuri was puzzled until she heard the snoring. She furrowed her brow and gave a loud cough, her voice, imbued with psychic power, echoing around the classroom. The sleeping students jolted awake in fright.
"Okay, sir, you can continue with the lesson now," Yuri apologized.
"I’m serious, Yuri. Could you help comb through my Sea of Consciousness too?" There was an unexpected hint of anticipation in the teacher’s voice.
"But I want to listen to your lecture," Yuri said uncomfortably.
The teacher was speechless... his status had shut him out.
After hesitating a moment, Yuri proposed, "How about you speak to the school about it and gather all the teachers together tonight?"
"Deal, I was waiting for you to say that," the teacher quickly agreed, afraid that if he waited a second longer, Yuri might change her mind.
News that Yuri was helping her classmates comb through the Sea of Consciousness spread rapidly around the school.
"After school, everyone should wait for Yuri Cheng in the cafeteria."
"Got it. I’ll stake out the cafeteria she usually goes to right after class ends."
"Sheesh, isn’t that a bit harsh?"
"What if you suddenly fall asleep while eating and choke on your food?"
"That could happen. Let’s not get food in the afternoon and wait until after the grooming."
"Like Yuri will definitely help you. She already promised the teachers first."
"Let’s give it a shot. No harm in trying."
"....."
Yuri was unaware of the crowd waiting for her in the cafeteria after school. When she and Tuss walked into the packed cafeteria, she hesitated and suggested, "There’s so many people. Maybe we should go to a different cafeteria?"
"Okay," Tuss replied, not looking at the hopeful faces.
"Hey, Yuri, wait up. We’ve already bought food for you. We’ve got everything, and we’ve bought one of each dish. You and Tuss can enjoy it at your leisure," a student called out to Yuri, showing the table laden with food.
Looking at his eager expression, Yuri asked with a twitch at the corner of her mouth, "Are you also here for me to comb through your Sea of Consciousness?"
"Mhm," the alphas in the room nodded in unison.
"The disturbances in your Sea of Consciousness are not severe," Yuri pointed out.
"But it still hurts."
"Yuri, for the sake of us being schoolmates, please let me experience the joy of being a teenager without the pain of a disturbed Sea of Consciousness."
Yuri hesitated for a moment before agreeing, "Okay, but I’ll only comb until I finish eating. Those who don’t get a turn will have to wait until next time."
"That’s fine, no problem."
When Yuri was helping others comb through the Sea of Consciousness, Tuss took on the task of feeding her, making it easy for her to eat while she worked.
They finished their meal, which took five minutes longer than usual.
When Yuri and Tuss left the cafeteria, nearly half of the people inside were fast asleep.
"Tuss probably never has to worry about insomnia, huh?" someone mumbled as they watched the pair leave.
"Isn’t that obvious? If he can’t sleep, he just has to ask Yuri to take a stroll through his Sea of Consciousness. That’d relax him for sure."
"People say the Sea of Consciousness is a reflection of a person’s mind. My Sea of Consciousness is a tree, what’s yours?"
"According to the betas whose Seas I’ve combed through, it’s a mecha."
"I’ve heard that the Sea of Consciousness for high-level alphas is like a small world. I wonder if that’s true."
"Probably. That’s why it’s so difficult to comb through the Sea of Consciousness of a high-level alpha."
"..."
Yuri and Tuss had just left the cafeteria and hadn’t gotten far when they were stopped by two teachers.
"Thank goodness we didn’t miss you," one of the teachers said.
"It’s not easy, teachers having to compete with students," the other teacher remarked.
"I’ve already made a promise to the students, I won’t go back on my word," Yuri said somewhat helplessly.
"We’re just worried about those students who trapped you in the cafeteria. We came to rescue you."
"All the teachers are in the auditorium. Shall we go there now?"
Yuri didn’t object. She originally wanted Tuss to go about his own business, but he insisted on staying with her. "I’ll accompany you."
With the people from the Empire still on school grounds, he couldn’t be at ease.
