I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 135: Hope
Chapter 135: Hope
If Yuri ever gave up, or if she fell, the rest would be doomed.
Among the ten-plus people remaining, all were schoolmates of people present at the scene. Some were classmates, friends, or even siblings. After Officer Lyao’s words rang out, their faces became instantly anxious. They clenched their fists tightly, silently praying: Yuri, please, hold on.
As time passed, one after another fell down on the ground, and were taken away.
Watching their loved ones and friends being rescued and out of danger, some were overcome with joy, weeping and laughing in low voices.
Others waited in distress, their eyes glued to Yuri, missing not a single subtle change in her. She must hang on.
When the last person finally fell, a cheer erupted from the crowd in the playground. Everyone hugged those around them, celebrating this moment of victory.
Yuri withdrew her psychic power, about to collapse to the ground, when a gust of wind came, and Tuss caught her firmly.
"Rest easy," Tuss said.
Officer Lyao also let out a sigh of relief, saying, "Get her to Professor Gawk. I’ll have more guards posted there. And, I’ll arrange for a separate dormitory for you guys, it’s not safe in the dorms after her identity has been revealed."
Tuss grunted in agreement, "Don’t give her any assignments for a while."
Officer Lyao’s face stiffened with anger, saying, "Do you think I don’t care enough for her?"
He cared more than anyone about Yuri’s well-being.
Tuss remained silent, rebuking him without words.
Seeing Tuss’ tight-lipped silence, Officer Lyao’s temples throbbed with anger. He shut off the screen. Out of sight, out of mind.
News of Yuri being an SSS-tier beta spread like wildfire among the higher ranks of the Alliance in less than half an hour, and rapidly spread to every corner of the Alliance.
The Alliance didn’t try to suppress the news. There was no reason to keep it from their citizens if the Empire already knew.
Suddenly, the interstellar net was buzzing.
"Guess what? I’m not surprised."
"After all, it doesn’t seem that big of a deal for Yuri to become an SSS-tier beta, given all the incredible things she’s done."
"Ha, that’s a good point."
"I just want to ask the Alliance’s top brass, how did you manage to get an SSS-tier beta to bomb eighth-level insectoids? She’s the only SSS-tier we’ve had in a thousand years."
"Same question. I’m just glad my Yuri is okay, otherwise, I’d be crying outside the military building every day."
"Yeah. Let’s all go and let our tears flood the military campus."
"Recently, Yuri has been sorting things out for alphas facing a collapse in the Sea of Consciousness. If you want to survive, hurry up and register with your local military department, submit your application, it doesn’t cost much, two thousand per person. Once the application is approved, the military will arrange transportation to Planet alpha for you. Note: The situation is prioritized based on severity, so if your application isn’t approved this time, don’t worry, you’ll get your chance next time."
"Oh my goodness, is this for real? Thanks, Yuri, for saving my life. I’m applying right away."
The once bustling interstellanet suddenly fell quiet. Everyone was busy spreading the news to their friends and family, to those who needed it.
It took about ten more minutes before someone spoke up again.
"There are over two billion alphas in the Alliance, can Yuri handle it all?"
"Those of us who don’t need it shouldn’t apply unnecessarily. You won’t get approved anyway."
"I’ve heard that Yuri can help hundreds of people at a time, so everyone shouldn’t worry too much."
"Worry about her safety and health."
"..."
In a remote star system, an old man was weeding his vegetable garden in front of an ancient cottage. A girl carrying a backpack ran up from afar and skidded to a halt in front of him.
"Grandpa, grandpa, I have wonderful news." The girl quickly took out a starship ticket from her backpack, "You can go to Planet alpha."
The old man frowned, "Why would I go to Planet alpha?"
"To get your Sea of Consciousness groomed. I submitted an application for you and it got approved. You can board the Alliance’s starship tomorrow and go to Planet alpha with other alphas. Yuri Cheng will help you solve the issue of your Sea of Consciousness being on the verge of collapse."
The old man’s frown deepened, "Did someone fool you, child? Even an S-tier beta can’t solve my Sea of Consciousness problem. Who is this girl you speak of? Is she some scam artist tricking young girls?"
Realizing her words alone weren’t convincing enough, the girl pulled up a video, saying, "See for yourself. Watch how Yuri subdued nearly a hundred alphas with uncontrolled Sea of Consciousness. Officer Lyao, who you greatly admire, will appear in the video too."
Seeing his granddaughter’s seriousness, the old man put down his hoe and sat on a stone by the field, watching attentively.
The girl also sat next to him. Her heart ached as she touched the calluses on his forehead, the lasting signs of the times he’d banged his head against a wall due to the unbearable pain from his Sea of Consciousness disorder.
People often said alphas were superior to others, and that once you became an alpha, your life would drastically change. But she didn’t see anything good about being an alpha. Sure, they had physical strengths surpassing those of omegas, but they also had to endure unbearable pain.
And they usually had shorter lifespans than omegas.
If she could, she’d wish for her grandpa to be just an omega.
Doctors had said her grandpa could only make it through this year at most. But she refused to accept it; he was not even seventy yet.
But apart from her refusal, she could do nothing. She had no money to hire an S-tier beta, let alone an SS-tier.
She had given up hope, resigned to her fate.
And then, Yuri appeared.
The girl began to smile, her eyes glistening with unshed tears, "Grandpa, people who have been helped by Yuri said they feel like they’ve returned to their youth, and their Sea of Consciousness doesn’t hurt at all. You go tomorrow, and your pain will be gone too."
The old man gently touched his granddaughter’s head, his voice choked with emotion, "Alright, I’ll go tomorrow."
"I’ll help you get ready, shave your beard, cut your hair, and we need to buy you some new clothes. You can’t meet Yuri looking shabby."
"Okay, I’ll follow your lead."
Similar scenes were playing out in every corner of each planet in the Alliance. Countless families were crying tears of joy because their loved ones could have a new lease on life.
Yuri, however, knew nothing of this. She had simply slept through the night, and when she woke up, she found herself in a new dormitory.
"Only the two of us live in this villa?" Yuri asked Tuss for confirmation.
Tuss nodded, "Yes, only us two students. And, more than twenty soldiers."
"How much is the housing fee for a year?" The place was nice, but if it was too expensive, she would rather go back to the dormitory. Arya, Nithya, and Isaya were good friends, and she missed them.
"It’s free. The condition is that you help the school teachers with mental grooming once," Tuss said, expressionless.
Everyone was vying for Yuri’s time.
And he was not happy about it.
