Chapter 126: [Bonus Chapter] Yuri Awakening
The Alliance didn’t cover up the event at the banquet; it was a hot topic on the interstellarnet by that same evening. Yet, the vast majority of people were in the dark, merely speculating all sorts of reasons.
Nevertheless, a fair number sniffed out something. Especially the officials who warned their children to stay clear of Princess Jira, the third daughter of the Empire, as soon as they got home.
So, beautiful, innocent, and lovely Princess Jira discovered that upon her return to school on Monday, people no longer flocked around her. Instead, everyone seemed to avoid her like the plague, as if she was a ferocious flood or beast.
"We were hasty that night," Herbert admitted with a serious face.
Theodore, tapping his forefinger on the sofa, finally replied after a moment, "That SSS beta hid herself pretty deep."
"The Alliance is wary of us now. It’ll be even harder to find her," Herbert spoke with concern.
Theodore glanced at his naïve brother and said, "The Alliance has always been cautious about us. Don’t worry. With time, they’ll forget about this. Jira, if you help someone in need, or perhaps assist in clearing up the Sea of Consciousness, they’ll forget even faster."
Jira mulled over this.
In the following period, Theodore, Herbert, and Jira dutifully attended school and took part in various activities.
With their handsome appearances, formidable abilities, and their courteous, approachable demeanor, Theodore and Herbert quickly won many people’s affections, especially the girls. Some even wrote them love letters.
As for Jira, her obedient and quiet demeanor would melt hearts. If someone ignored her, she’d look at the person with pitiful eyes, as if on the brink of tears. It was hard not to feel sympathy, not to feel a tug on your heartstrings.
During one class, an alpha suddenly suffered mental disarray. Jira was the first to step up and conduct a Sea of Consciousness alignment for the Alpha.
Once completed, the alpha sincerely exclaimed, "Wow, that alignment worked wonders! I feel like before differentiation. I haven’t felt this relaxed in seven or eight years."
Upon hearing this, the other alphas cast envious glances. They hadn’t experienced that kind of relaxation from Sea of Consciousness disarray in years.
Although they would occasionally ask betas for Sea of Consciousness alignment, and the results were quite comforting, it was an impossible dream to return to their past states before differentiation.
"If you trust me, I can help align your Sea of Consciousness," Jira proposed timidly, looking at everyone with caution.
The Alphas looked at each other, not knowing what to say. They wanted Jira’s help, yet feared her interference with their Sea of Consciousness.
While everyone hesitated, a student from a remote planet stepped forward and politely said, "Well, we appreciate your help, Jira."
Jira smiled faintly and replied, "It’s no trouble at all. Thank you for trusting me."
Half an hour later, exhaustion appeared on Jira’s face. She stopped the alignment and said, "My abilities are limited; I can only do so much."
"You’re amazing. The effects of this grooming are better than any I’ve had before," the Alpha declared, brimming with excitement.
Seeing this, the others gritted their teeth in regret for their missed opportunity.
Jira left, supported by her classmates.
Once she was gone, someone couldn’t help but ask the alpha, "Everyone was hesitant, but you just stepped forward. Weren’t you scared?"
"What is there to fear? Would she dare to hurt me in public?" The alpha responded carelessly. Truth be told, he was scared, but he was poor. Every time he paid a beta to groom his Sea of Consciousness, it cost him a lot. Three months had passed since his last grooming, and he was already unbearably uncomfortable, which led him to take the risk.
As it turned out, his gamble paid off.
As the Imperial Princes and Princess settled into their life at Military Academy No. 1, Yuri, who had been sleeping for nearly a month, finally woke up.
"Thanks to your daily massages, my muscles must have stayed intact," Yuri croaked.
Tuss brought a cup of water to her lips and carefully helped her drink. "Just woke up, don’t talk too much."
Yuri made a soft noise of protest, "I haven’t spoken for a month. If I don’t speak now, I might forget how."
Tuss displayed a helpless smile, "I’ll get some throat lozenges from Professor Gawk later. He suggested you get out of bed and walk around. Can I assist you?"
"Sure. But first, give me two bottles of Nutrient Fluids." Despite being injected with Nutrient Fluids daily, her stomach was still growling.
After drinking the Nutrient Fluids and with Tuss’s help, Yuri slowly regained her muscle memory. In less than half an hour, she was moving around spryly.
When Officer Lyao’s communication request came in, Yuri was just about to leave the lab.
"You seem to be in a good mental state," Officer Lyao sighed in relief.
"Try sleeping for a month; you’d be in a great state too," Yuri retorted, having truly had enough of sleep.
"If you’re feeling good, rest for two more days, then help us with mental alignment for our officers at the military department. They’re all on the brink of rioting," Officer Lyao requested, though he didn’t want to ask her so soon; the officers were at their breaking point.
"Sure, I can do that now." After sleeping for a month, she felt her psychic power had improved.
"Alright, I’ll send someone to pick you up," Officer Lyao said.
Ending the call, Tuss asked with concern, "Are you sure you’re okay?"
"I’m fine. I feel like my psychic power has improved," Yuri replied with a smile, her spirits high.
Tuss felt relieved, "I’ll come with you."
At the moment, in the military department’s largest conference room, Officer Lyao had gathered over forty officers. He stood at the podium, sternly observing them.
These war heroes, averaging a hundred years old, were destined to enter nursing homes this year, or the next at the latest. The end of the road for them would either be death or a descent into madness, becoming mere husks of their former selves.
"Lyao, why did you call us here? To watch you daydream?"
"We have a pile of work to do, we don’t have time to waste here with you."
"Our days are numbered, we can’t afford to waste them on you."
"That’s right, I need to go back and spend time with my great-grandson."
"..."
These individuals were two to three times older than Officer Lyao. Even if their positions were not as high as his, they did not fear him.
"Please be patient, first, take a test," Officer Lyao said, distributing a test to each of them. The test was ten pages long; it would take at least three to four hours to complete.
"Are you messing with us?"
"Why should I write anything? I don’t have time."
"I’ve always hated tests, I won’t write, and I won’t play your games. I’m leaving."
"You may regret it," Officer Lyao warned, "Once you leave this room, even if you beg to come back, I won’t care."
The old general paused, looking at Officer Lyao with uncertainty, "What do I need from you?"
"The thing you’ve been thinking about," Officer Lyao answered.
The old general widened his eyes, "Is it...that thing? Is she...has she woken up?"
Officer Lyao hummed affirmatively, "You stay here and write your tests, don’t leave. She’ll be here soon."
