I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 125: The Perilous Jira
Chapter 125: The Perilous Jira
Neither of them could get the upper hand? Ender frowned, remarking, "This Theodore is no joke."
Kilana nodded in agreement, "More than that, he’s bad news."
Daleks seemed unfazed, "Let ’em bring it on, I’m not afraid of anything."
Ender rapped Daleks on the head, saying, "They’re already here. Be alert!"
Daleks rubbed his head, grumbling, "Let them. Me? Scared? No way!"
Seeing Daleks so nonchalant, Ender gritted his teeth and tried to hit him again but missed. Ender snapped, "Of course, you’re not scared. They’re ignoring you. Look at Tuz, and Hoarah too. They’ve been targeted and attacked, haven’t they? What are you planning to do now?"
"Go see Yuri," Daleks replied, his voice softer.
"Considering what happened to Yuri, you still think Planet Alpha is safe?" Ender asked sharply.
Realizing his mistake, Daleks admitted, "I was careless."
"Officer Lyao said not to overthink, stay relaxed, business as usual," Tuss tried to reassure them.
Ender calmed down, "We know."
Daleks nodded vigorously, "I’ll definitely stay more alert than usual."
Tuss shook his head. "Not necessary. Keep things normal. If we’re overly cautious, they’ll think we’re up to something."
With Yuri still unconscious, Ender, Daleks, and Kilana left after a short visit.
Tuss stayed behind in the infirmary. He had been sleeping there these past few nights.
"Here are the notes from the mecha manufacturing classes for the past few days," Tuss said as he pulled up the display. The screen showed notes he borrowed from the top student in the class. "Go through these. I’ll return them in the morning."
The infirmary was silent. No one answered him.
When it was time, Tuss crawled into bed. Yuri was still studying.
The next morning, as Tuss left, Yuri returned to his own body, falling into a deep sleep.
Tuss first returned the notes to the tall, skinny teen named Hans in the mecha manufacturing class.
"I don’t need them back right away, no need to return them daily," Hans told Tuss.
"I’ve already copied them," said Tuss, implying he didn’t need them anymore.
Hans didn’t know how to persuade Tuss. Tuss appeared cold, polite but distant. If it weren’t for borrowing notes, he wouldn’t have had the chance to talk to him during their college years.
"Is Yuri still unwell?" Hans asked curiously.
Tuss simply grunted, revealing nothing more than, "I’ll come again this afternoon."
"That’s fine. Don’t rush. I can wait for you." Tuss was always waiting at their classroom door as soon as class ended, obviously leaving before his own class finished.
Tuss gave no reply and briskly walked away.
"Hans, did you ask? What did Tuss say?" Sagato asked, concern all over her face.
Though Yuri was an "android", she still felt an emotional connection to Yuri. She and the other students missed Yuri dearly.
Hans shook his head, disappointed, "Tuss only grunted. I have no idea what the situation is."
It was not until Sunday, during the welcoming banquet held by the Alliance for the Empire’s prince and princess, that Yuri woke up.
Tuss was on the guest list, but he declined the invitation.
That night, an incident occurred at the banquet. One of the servers in the beverage area suddenly had a breakdown in his Sea of Consciousness and went crazy.
Thankfully, the Alliance reacted swiftly and put him down, averting a disaster.
Yet, the trouble was far from over. The next day, the server’s family stormed the military headquarters, demanding an explanation from the Alliance.
"My child was only nineteen years old, a C-tier alpha. It’s impossible for his Sea of Consciousness to break down."
"The beta who helped him manage his Sea of Consciousness last month said it was very stable, that it wouldn’t need management for a while. How could it have broken down? The military is clearly lying."
"Give us back our child’s life."
"..."
Inside the military headquarters, Officer Lyao and other officers looked grim.
"How did the autopsy go?" Officer Lyao asked.
"Indeed, it was a Sea of Consciousness breakdown."
"But the boy’s parents weren’t lying. Last month a beta helped him manage his Sea of Consciousness. It was stable. For the next several years, if managed on time, there should be no chance of breakdown."
"Perhaps his breakdown was triggered by someone."
"That’s very likely."
"Did we check his family? Any suspicious activity?"
"Nothing so far."
"So, it’s likely he was led on. When the boy’s Sea of Consciousness broke down, what was the Empire’s third princess, Jira, doing?"
"She was in the beverage area, with the Second Commander’s granddaughter, Saina. Besides Saina, there were several betas, including Satomi, who is also SS-tier."
"All of them are SS-tier, yet when an SS-tier from the Empire acted, none of our Alliance’s SS-tier noticed."
"Now this Jira is in Military Academy No. 1, the place with the most alphas in the Alliance, especially two precious SSS-tier alphas..."
They all understood the risk, and their faces turned even grimmer.
"She is trying to draw out our SSS-tier beta," Martin fumed.
Cough, cough...
A round of coughs echoed in the conference room.
Realizing his faux pas, Martin’s face turned red, but he continued defiantly, "Let’s not beat around the bush. We all know what’s going on."
Officer Lyao glanced at Martin, "Have Satomi stay close to Jira, always on alert for her movements."
"Satomi is not as powerful as Jira. If Jira wants to do something, Satomi probably won’t even notice. Like tonight," Martin voiced his concerns, "The safest thing to do is to have the SSS-tier beta stick close to her. Keep a close watch without Jira noticing."
"She’s injured," Officer Lyao stated plainly.
"What?"
The officers were shocked, stood up, and nervously looked at Officer Lyao, "Injured? Is it serious?"
Officer Lyao glanced at them, thinking, they look as worried as if their own children were injured.
"She’s fine, just unable to wake up for now. Have Satomi keep a close eye on her for a few days. Also, notify Military Academy No. 1 to avoid large gatherings and to not let people cluster together," Officer Lyao ordered.
"Yes, sir."
"I knew an ore planet wouldn’t be so easy to acquire."
"Show the autopsy report to the family and explain it thoroughly to them. Also, double the compensation, deduct it from my account."
"Lyao, it’s not just you who has money. We have too. We can all contribute."
"Okay, we have no objections."
Ender informed Tuss about the incident at the banquet at the earliest opportunity.
"Stay away from that Jira, she’s dangerous," Ender warned anxiously. The invisible psychic power was hard to guard against.
This Jira was even more terrifying than their two elder brothers.
Tuss hummed in agreement, "You guys should also stay away from her. Don’t isolate yourselves or go to crowded places."
