I Married A Degraded Alpha
Chapter 114: An Unexpected Snooze

Chapter 114: An Unexpected Snooze

Inside the military headquarters, Officer Lyao found himself cornered by the conference room door.

"Lyao, you can’t just stand there and do nothing!" Commander Martin blocked Officer Lyao’s path, his intense gaze pinned on him. "After all we’ve been through, you’re just going to stand there and let my Sea of Consciousness collapse?"

"I don’t know anything, so I can’t help you," replied Officer Lyao, unmoved.

"No, you do know. Nobody knows better than you. Ever since the Second Commander entered the secret chamber and came out, you’re the only one who has been to his recovery center and seen him. Plus, what about that time on the spaceship? Thousands of soldiers’ Sea of Consciousness were unexpectedly sorted out, and it was all your doing." Martin clenched his jaw in certainty.

"I don’t know what you’re talking about." Officer Lyao’s face remained expressionless.

"Lyao!" Martin called his name out loud. "Are you really going to stand by and do nothing? Remember when I saved your life?"

Officer Lyao rubbed his temples and asked, "Who put you up to this? How many of you are there?"

"All the level-2 commanders and a handful of level-threes," admitted Martin.

Officer Lyao’s face held a look of "I thought so." He said, "I’ll speak with the person in question. I’ll inform you when there’s an outcome."

Martin breathed a sigh of relief. "Okay, go ahead. If you don’t want the person exposed, you can use sleeping gas on us, hypnotize us, do whatever it takes, as long as she agrees to sort out our Sea of Consciousness."

A light bulb went off in Officer Lyao’s mind. Right, Yuri can do the sorting discreetly.

Instead of going straight to Yuri, Officer Lyao reached out to Tuss, who then relayed the message to Yuri.

"Will there be a reward?" Yuri asked.

"Yes," Tuss replied with a resigned smile. He knew she would ask that.

"How many astracredits?" Building mechas was an expensive pursuit; she needed a fortune to purchase materials and equipment. Without millions, you couldn’t train a master mecha builder.

"No less than ten million astracredits," Tuss declared, quoting the price he and Officer Lyao had discussed.

Yuri’s eyes lit up, "I agree."

"However," Tuss interrupted, "even if you get that many astracredits, it’s not like you can spend them all. Even if we gave you an untraceable card, your purchases would still leave a trail. It would be easy for someone to trace back to you. So, Officer Lyao suggests giving you materials directly. Plus, he can get them at the best prices."

Yuri agreed, "That would be even better. It would save me a lot of trouble."

Yuri had no idea how Officer Lyao would handle this. It wasn’t until the Military Academy No. 1’s anniversary celebration was about to take place that Officer Lyao informed her, asking her to act during the event.

Before the celebration, Yuri celebrated her own birthday.

The day before her birthday, she started receiving gifts. Most of them were sent directly to her dorm, with no names attached, so she had no clue where to return them if she wanted to.

Arya and her friends were eager to help, surrounding Yuri’s desk and helping her in opening the gifts.

"Huh, it’s a battery. Who sends a battery—?" Arya cut off mid-sentence, clearly realizing something.

"Artificial skin maintenance fluid," Nithya said, her face full of disbelief.

"And this one is a maintenance kit for robots," Isaya added, equally stunned.

Yuri: "...." Well, thanks a lot, guys.

In the evening, Yuri, Tuss, and Daleks and the rest gathered in a private dining room in the cafeteria to eat cake and exchange gifts.

Finally, some normal presents.

Yuri held them in her hands, letting out a silent sigh of relief. Thankfully, some people still knew she wasn’t a robot.

Tuss also gave her a gift, a piece of jewelry made from the gemstones he’d recently acquired.

"I thought you auctioned these off?" Yuri said, admiring the shimmering jewelry. Even if she didn’t like wearing it, it felt good just to look at it.

"I sold some and kept some. I bought some other gems too, and that’s how I put together these sets of jewelry," Tuss explained.

"Wow, handing out millions worth of jewels all at once, you’re certainly not holding back," Ender shook his head. "Can’t compete with that."

"Before competing, shouldn’t you have a girlfriend first?" Kilana suggested.

Ender choked, then poured himself a drink. "You’re a horrible woman, Kilana."

Raising an eyebrow, Kilana suggested, "With all these schoolgirls around, you guys should get serious."

"Finding a male beta is even harder, why aren’t you worried?" Daleks countered.

Kilana: "...."

On the day of the school’s anniversary, Yuri was assigned to be a volunteer, while Tuss, Ender, and the others were included in the performance squad.

This year marked the 260th anniversary of Military Academy No. 1, and the celebration was grand. All the level-two commanders of the Alliance, as well as a few level-three commanders, were in attendance.

Such a sudden influx of high-ranking officers made the leaders of Military Academy No. 1 tremble with nervousness. Why do they all show up? Because Military Academy No. 1 has two SSS-tier alpha students?

So, the school leaders kept Tuss and Hoarah busy, their presence marked in almost all performances.

But to their surprise, although these high-ranking officers watched the performances, their minds seemed elsewhere. Their eyes occasionally swept across the crowd, as if searching for something.

Not far away, Yuri, carrying a box of water like the other volunteers, placed the bottles on the officers’ table.

Simultaneously, her psychic power flowed seamlessly through the crowd, directly targeting the person with the most unstable Sea of Consciousness.

As luck would have it, it was Commander Martin.

The moment Yuri’s psychic power entered Martin’s Sea of Consciousness, his expression changed. Soon, he looked completely relaxed. Within three minutes, he leaned back on the armrest and fell asleep.

The snoring of Martin startled the colleagues sitting beside him. They were about to wake him up but seeing the dark circles under his eyes, they let him sleep.

They thought, let him sleep, it’s okay.

Even if the media caught it, they wouldn’t dare to report it.

But soon, they sensed something was wrong. Five minutes after Martin fell asleep, another commander sitting next to him also dozed off.

The sleep was deep, and their snores echoed loudly.

Then, one by one, the second, third, fourth, fifth... all commanders all began to doze off.

Seeing their peers asleep, the awake officials quickly understood what was going on. Their faces lit up with excitement and anticipation, almost wishing they were the next ones to fall asleep.

The clueless school leaders and students watched this scene with a complex mix of emotions: embarrassment, unease, confusion, disappointment... Can our performances really be so poor? The officers don’t seem to have the slightest desire to watch.

"Are the commanders not feeling well? Should we call a doctor?" the school leaders asked cautiously. Deep down, they denied the notion that the officers would fall asleep due to their performances not being exciting enough.

"No, there’s no need. They’re just exhausted," the awake officials hastily replied. After a moment’s thought, they added, "Perhaps the students’ performance has a hypnotic effect?"
