Chapter 95 - 94 Red Cloak

Chapter 95: Chapter 94 Red Cloak

With magic at their disposal, the witches’ ability to work with their hands was exceptionally strong. Within half a day, their run-down little house had taken shape.

New planks were in place where the old ones had rotted, weeds had been meticulously uprooted, and the dust that had accumulated in the house was gone without a trace, leaving behind additional chairs and tables.

"I’m really thankful for today’s help. Let’s make some delicious food to reward everyone," Mu Ying said, heading into the kitchen.

Although she wanted to prepare a feast, the scant ingredients were sourced from a vegetable plot that had only recently been freed from weeds, very limited indeed. She could only do her best.

Fortunately, witches aren’t fussy creatures. They enjoy the good and can endure the bad. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be so many witches who are unwilling to delve deeper into Cooking Magic, stopping at mere bread-baking.

That night, due to the limited number of beds, they laid out sleeping mats and for the first time slept huddled together, leaving the two beds cold and deserted.

The next morning when Mu Ying woke up, she stiffly glanced at Windsor, who was clinging to her like a koala and still snoring softly, and gave up the idea of getting up right then.

She tried to turn her neck to see the others’ sleeping positions.

Lillian was lying stiffly with her hands crossed over her chest, the folds in the blanket almost the same as when she lay down the night before, making one want to check if she was still breathing.

On the other side, Senior Sister Lucia, also used by Margreta as a pillow, was staring blankly at the ceiling.

Next to them were Senior Reni, whose snoring felt like it could shake the heavens, and Senior Sister Rosie, who had cocooned herself into a silkworm chrysalis.

It’s true what they say: you don’t realize until you sleep with someone. Their sleeping habits are quite a surprise! Tonight, she definitely had to try to sleep next to Senior Sister Lucia, who at least seemed more normal.

After a simple breakfast, Mu Ying and her companions used a hair dyeing magic potion to turn their hair to the most common brown color, braided it into a popular village-girl style, changed into the clothes of a civilian girl from the human world they bought at the last gathering, slung a bamboo basket over their arm and thus were basically disguised.

"Remember, we are seven sisters who have just moved to the nearby forest, and we’ve picked some wild goods to sell," Mu Ying gave them a persona that was far from foolproof.

After all, in a village where everyone saw each other often, any newcomer would draw attention, especially a group of young girls like them. Anything could happen.

Luckily, Mu Ying wanted to visit the village to get in touch with the humans of this world, to experience their lives personally. She didn’t need a subtle, unobtrusive approach – they could always choose another village next time.

The forest was vast, and Redberry Village wasn’t the only one adjacent to the Witch Forest. The others, slightly further away, were just a short broom ride.

What Mu Ying didn’t remind them was that such a group of young girls living alone in the forest might at best draw curious glances and at worst, might be targeted for robbery or even murder.

Carrying their baskets, they all walked out of the forest, picking wild fruits, flowers, and mushrooms along the way to fill their persona.

After leaving the Witch Forest and entering human territory, it didn’t take long for Mu Ying and her companions to find a small path through the woods.

"If we follow this path, we should be able to find the village," Mu Ying said with delight.

"We need to be careful with our words and actions now and stay in character," Lucia reminded.

The senior sisters all braced themselves. The human world was like a beautiful but thorny flower, alluring yet fraught with untold danger. Many witches had lost their lives outside the Witch Forest.

Lillian and Windsor were much more carefree. They hadn’t been scarred by the library books about the human world and had a superficial understanding of the witches’ bad reputation among humans. At the moment, their minds were filled with curiosity about humans.

"La la la~"

A girl’s cheerful singing could be heard from down the path; a beautiful girl draped in a red velvet cloak appeared at the end of the road, bouncing along with a basket in one hand and a bunch of wildflowers in the other.

Lillian glanced across, then looked at themselves, "Could it be that we’ve run into a fellow traveler?"

It wasn’t just her who had this question; everyone else did, too, because aside from the bright red cloak, they all looked too similar.

As they hesitated, the girl on the other side muttered first, "The forest is so lively today!"

Clearly, the girl was an optimist. "Sisters, are you also going to visit grandmother?"

"?"

"Grandmother?"

"Ahem, why do you ask?"

Seeing that everyone had a puzzled look and no thoughts of taking the lead, Senior Sister Lucia stepped forward.

"My grandmother is ill, and my mother told me to bring her some things. She lives in the forest. I thought you were also going to visit your grandmothers; the elderly in the village always like to live alone in the forest. I just met a big brother who was also going to visit his grandmother, and he suggested that I pick some wildflowers," the little girl said proudly, holding up her flowers.

"We just moved into the forest and plan to sell some things in the village," said Lucia.

Mu Ying nodded and took the lead to introduce herself and the others, "What is your name?"

"Heite, but you can call me Red Cloak. I love this red cloak the most," said the girl, lovingly stroking her cloak.

Really now? Red Cloak, grandmother, the only thing missing for the well-known fairy tale "Red Cloak" from a previous life was a wolf.

"Red Cloak? That’s a cute nickname. We sisters just moved here and haven’t been to the village yet. Can we go see your grandmother with you and then head to the village together afterward? We’re a bit worried that the people in the village might not like us," said Mu Ying anxiously.

The others, although not knowing why Mu Ying suddenly wanted to follow the little girl, managed to display similar expressions of concern in unison.

"Sure, sure, my grandmother would definitely be happy to have so many people come to see her," said Red Cloak cheerfully.

Mu Ying really wanted to say, young girl, your lack of caution is terrible, how can you casually bring strangers home? Sigh, hopefully she was just overthinking it.

"Thump, thump, thump," in front of the cottage in the woods, Red Cloak knocked on the door and then pushed it open herself, "Grandmother, grandmother, are you feeling better? I’m here to see you!"

Does someone living in such a remote place not lock their door? Mu Ying subtly signaled to Senior Sister Margreta, who was the strongest fighter among them.

"Oh, grandmother was just thinking of you!"

"Grandmother, why does your voice sound so strange?" Red Cloak, only seeing grandmother lying in bed covered with a blanket, didn’t take a closer look and put down her things first.

"I have a cold... I am the big brother, grandmother told me to wait for you here as she heard you were coming. She’s gone to the woods to pick mushrooms, planning to make your favorite mushroom soup," said the man in bed with a stiff smile, getting up.

The man who sat up in bed wondered where these seven girls, as beautiful as flowers, had come from. Caught off guard, and though they looked naïve, not to be wasted when delivered right to his doorstep, it just meant a bit more trouble.

"Big brother, what are you doing here?" exclaimed Red Cloak, seeing the man.
