Chapter 94: Chapter 93: Tidying Up the Dwelling Place
Waking up in the tower of the witch magic school, Mu Ying came to the balcony, feeling the morning breeze and smelling the fresh scent of dew, as if she was in a different world.
During her time outside, concerned about safety, she had not undergone Trial Time, accumulating 7 hours of it. According to Emerald World time, that was enough for her to stay here until the first weekend of Fire Month.
After a morning of classes.
"Mu Ying, do you have any plans for this afternoon?"
Lillian asked as usual, even though the three of them already had their own directions and rarely stuck together at all times as they did when they first enrolled in school.
"I’m going to the library to borrow the ’Life Magic Encyclopedia’ Senior Sister Margreta recommended," Mu Ying shrank the Witch’s Book and hung it at her waist. "We have a break this weekend, and I need to go back and repair my house. Some of the spells will come in handy, or else it might collapse before I graduate."
"Ah? I’m envious every time I hear it. I really don’t know if this time my grandmother will do as Senior Sister Margreta said and kick me out," Lillian said, utterly disheartened.
Windsor patted Lillian on the head, comforting her, "If you do get kicked out, come to my place for a visit! Before I went to school, my mother said she wanted to spend some time in the human world. I guess she hasn’t returned yet for the vacation."
"Then you might as well all come to my place. Although it’s a bit run-down, there’s no one to boss us around, and I was planning to take a look outside the Witch Forest during the break. My house is on the edge of the Witch Forest, and just outside is the human world’s forest. My mother mentioned there’s a human village nearby called Redberry Village."
The more Mu Ying thought about it, the more feasible it seemed. Windsor and Lillian each had their strengths. With their help, she could repair and clean her cabin more quickly, and it would be safer to go out.
Of course, she also had another thought; she felt that the things about humans discussed in history class were too superficial. Although witches have magic to protect themselves, relying on such limited understanding in the human world would definitely be a disadvantage.
After all, they were her classmates. Having them accompany her to first make contact with the human world would be better than venturing into it alone after the coming-of-age ceremony.
......
On Saturday morning, Mu Ying was organizing things to bring back home, when Lillian landed on her balcony.
"Wuu, Mu Ying, I really got kicked out. It’s so pitiful," Lillian tried to squeeze out tears, throwing herself onto Mu Ying and wailing.
"That’s perfect then, you can join my team going home," Mu Ying said with legitimate sympathy but also found the Red Witches’ inherited plight kind of amusing. To avoid laughing out loud, she swiftly changed the subject. "Now we’ll just have to see how Windsor is doing."
Because of Mu Ying’s invitation, Windsor and Lillian went home early last night to gauge their families’ attitudes and send word back before rushing back to school to join them.
"Look, she’s here too," Lillian said with a mournful face, pointing outside the window where a small black dot was approaching closer.
Windsor landed with a large parcel, "Mu Ying, this is a gift from my mom, hearing that I’m going to visit your house."
"Your mom is so nice. I’ve decided to let my daughter experience the love of a Red Witch mother too!"
Imagining that scenario, Lillian immediately brightened up.
"..."
Mu Ying gave Lillian a look that said it all before taking the item from Windsor’s hands.
Inside was a set of exquisite porcelain, with tea sets and dinnerware for seven people, which was very timely. Her house was very rudimentary, and she only had one cup for drinking water.
"Windsor, these things are so timely, when you get a chance, thank me mother properly for me. Since mother passed away, I’ve been living alone, and many things I have are only in single servings. I was just planning on borrowing some crockery from the public lounge to get by!" Mu Ying expressed her gratitude.
The group returning home had expanded from just herself to seven people, and the holiday had turned into a group trip for the students of the Magic School.
Lillian and Windsor were purely curious. Even the gentler Windsor’s Mother had suggested it was time for Windsor to start gaining independence and establish her own home. They hadn’t made any preparations for this, nor had they saved enough money, so they might as well visit Mu Ying’s house first.
The senior sisters wanted to prepare for their coming-of-age trials.
They were about to celebrate their adulthood, and after the ceremony, they would have to go out and experience the world beyond the forest on their own.
But before that, they had never been outside the forest, knowing the human world only from what they had seen in books, filled both with curiosity and apprehension.
Mu Ying hadn’t expected that her invitation would lead her classmates and the seniors to her own home.
There was no longer any need to worry about the Life Magic they hadn’t yet mastered, as the seniors had experience in establishing homes, being quite skilled at it. Her wooden house would surely be transformed.
This time, Mu Ying led the way. She had used Copy Magic to make a copy of the map from the library in advance, determining the route home.
However, the map wasn’t very detailed, and Mu Ying could only make out the general direction; she would have to find the specific locations when they got there.
This was the downside of being teleported directly to the school on the first day of classes; a slightly poor sense of direction could mean not finding the way back home.
It took Mu Ying and the others just over an hour to fly near the forest by her home, and then they wandered through a good part of the forest before finding where the wooden house was.
Of course, that was also because the concealment spell on the building was still in effect. Except for specific people, others would only see an empty space in front of the house and would walk around it without realizing it.
"This building concealment magic of yours is so useful. It’s a pity it’s High-level Magic, not every adult witch can learn it," Senior Reni exclaimed with wonder after Mu Ying led her inside and the wooden house suddenly appeared.
Senior Lucia looked around and said, "It’s really rare for the building concealment magic to last this long. I remember Mu Ying’s mother passed away a long time ago, yet it hasn’t failed due to a lack of magic power!"
"Indeed," Rosie pulled Mu Ying in front of her, "What do you feel when you look at the house?"
"Cough cough," Mu Ying looked at the wooden house, overrun by weeds and vines, feeling a bit sheepish, "I’m going to need everyone’s help to tidy it up properly. These weeds have gotten out of hand; it wasn’t this bad before I left for school."
"Very well, without a proper clean-up, it wouldn’t be fitting for such good concealment magic," Rosie rolled up her sleeves, "Margreta, please take Lillian with you to get some wood. This wooden house needs some serious repairing, but thankfully the main structure is still intact. Once we have the wood, we can fix it up with Repair Magic."
"Got it!" Margreta often went to the back mountains, and her Cutting Magic was quite good, so getting some wood was no problem.
"Then Lucia and I will take care of dusting, and Windsor, you can join us," Senior Reni suggested.
Mu Ying also started working with Senior Sister Rosie to tidy up the weeds and the plants in the vegetable garden and Medicine Field.
Seeing everyone working with such enthusiasm, Mu Ying couldn’t help but smile broadly.
"Just keep smiling," Rosie tapped on her younger classmate’s forehead.
"Hehe, thank you, Senior Sister, you’ve been a huge help," Mu Ying knew that Rosie had encouraged everyone to come, partly to help her out.
