Chapter 222: Chapter 219 Mermaid Village

"..., if you want to touch it, just go ahead," Mu Ying said. She wasn’t particularly interested in the fishtail; how appealing could the slippery thing be to touch? However, seeing Lily’s eyes almost sticking to her legs, it was clear she wasn’t just eager to touch Mu Ying’s tail; she was drooling over her legs.

Considering Lily was just a little girl, that was the only reason Mu Ying had agreed.

Lily excitedly propped her tail up in front of Mu Ying. "Go ahead and touch it, my tail is the smoothest and prettiest in our clan!"

"Hm, my legs are also top-notch among humans," Mu Ying replied nonchalantly as she touched the tail. It was cool to the touch and slightly hard. It was smooth when stroked one way but prickly the other, shimmering with a pearly luster; indeed, it looked quite nice. But as for touching it, she’d pass; she preferred something fluffier.

"It’s my turn to touch!" Lily, seemingly having some peculiar fascination, looked excited and reached out with her small hands.

"Eh? It’s not slippery at all," the little mermaid said, sounding a bit disappointed.

Mu Ying looked skyward, at a loss for words, "What you just touched was the pants I’m wearing over my legs."

"Pants? I know that. They’re what humans wear on their legs, like our shell clothes, seaweed clothes!" Lily blurted out an answer. "But do elves wear pants too?"

Mu Ying: "..."

Priestess Granny, please send someone else to take care of me. A thirty-year-old mermaid is way too young; at least give me someone in their seventies or eighties! Mu Ying inwardly screamed.

"Well, the intelligent creatures on land all wear clothes to cover their bodies, and elves are no exception. Elves actually look quite similar to humans, just with pointier ears," Mu Ying said, seeing that Lily didn’t know how to roll up the pants. She silently changed into a swimsuit using her Thousand Faces Clothes, revealing her long legs. "Go ahead, touch them. Now it’s bare legs."

"Wow! So smooth! It’s sleek no matter which way I stroke," Lily’s little hands glided from Mu Ying’s thighs down to her calves and then she bent down to study Mu Ying’s feet. "Yingying, swim for me. How can you move with such tiny things?"

Mu Ying felt like she was giving a child a lesson in physiology. She walked slowly, demonstrating how to move on land. "It’s quite difficult to walk in the water with feet, not nearly as fast as swimming with your fishtail."

"I see. I’ll pull you as we swim. But first, we need to rub a bit of Sea Tree Fruit Juice on. Otherwise, we can’t get out of the Sea Forest," Lily said, pulling out some fruit from her small shell bag and handing it to Mu Ying. "The sea tree fruit will die rapidly once it’s opened, and they’re useless when dead, so we also need to be quick."

Mu Ying was delighted to receive a handful of sea tree fruit; she kept one in her hand and put away the rest.

After crushing the fruit in her hand, the vast expanse of the Sea Forest transformed into the brief glimpse she’d seen before.

Lily took her hand, swishing her tail, and swiftly pulled her through the forest, soon leaving it behind.

"The sea trees that bear fruit are all planted here. If you enter the forest, remember to pick some from this area," Lily said, pointing to small shrubs just outside the forest.

It was remarkable how the male sea trees grew so tall while the female ones were so small; nature truly had endless wonders.

This was the Mermaid Clan’s way of protecting their homeland, and Mu Ying didn’t inquire further into it.

"This is where our coral field and Clam Field are. It’s a pity I don’t like to eat coral; it’s soft and slippery clam flesh that I truly love," Lily said, leading Mu Ying above the fields.

Mu Ying looked down curiously at the mermaids who were working below, feeling they were not so different from human farmers. Humans cultivated vegetables and raised livestock, whereas mermaids grew coral and farmed Pearl Clams.

"Do you raise these Glowing Pearl Clams just for the meat?" Mu Ying asked.

Lily nodded, "Yes, very few fish swim in, so everyone relies on them for meat. The clam shells can also be used to make bras and accessories, and the pearls are used to decorate the caves. Oh, those caves over there are where we all live. I’ll take you to my home to play!"

Lily’s home was behind that cluster of caves. Along the way, Mu Ying could also see other mermaids coming and going in and out of their caves. They waved enthusiastically at her and didn’t show the same curiosity about her legs as Lily did. It seemed that in the whole little village, only Lily, the little mermaid, hadn’t seen much of the world.

"Here we are!" Lily waved her tail, stopped dragging Mu Ying from in front, and started pushing her into the cave from behind.

There were Glowing Pearls stuck in the nooks and crannies outside the cave, and two purple coral trees were planted at the entrance. The space inside wasn’t very big and contained a large shell.

Lily opened the shell and pulled her in.

The space inside the shell seemed larger than the outside, and the walls emitted a pearly luster, much brighter than the outer caves. There was a coral clothes rack inside, which was covered with various bras. Beside it was a shell bed, and on the other side of the bed was a shell box.

Lily pushed her towards the shell box, "Yingying, these are the treasures I’ve collected over the past thirty years. This is a Sea Tree Branch I polished myself, this is a Little Stone I dug from the sand, and these, I got from the Hunting Team’s brothers and sisters. These are small shells I raised myself, though the meat has already been eaten by me..."

Mu Ying crouched beside her, forced to admire her treasure collection, which consisted of colorful little objects.

"Hmm, it’s our first meeting, so I want to give Yingying a present," Lily said, half-submerging herself into the box and rummaging around. "Got it, this is the first scale I shed. I’ll give it to you as a token of our friendship, okay?"

Mu Ying took the scale, which was as thin as a cicada’s wing and shimmered with nacreous light when she held it up. Since it was customary to reciprocate, she felt she should also give something in return.

Considering Lily’s taste, she seemed to like colorful, blingbling things. Mu Ying thought for a moment, and the only thing she had that met this criterion seemed to be Gold Coins.

Giving Gold Coins might seem insincere, and even though Lily was a bit naive, she was sincere in her kindness. Mu Ying still wanted to give a heartfelt gift for their first meeting.

On second thought, the mermaid custom of decorating their homes with shiny objects was also a sign of a love for beauty.

So Mu Ying asked her, "What’s your favorite color?"

"Pinkish purple. Those two coral trees at the door are my favorites, aren’t they beautiful?" Lily said.

"Then I’ll give you a bottle of Potion that can dye your hair pinkish purple." Mu Ying pulled out a small potions bottle.

"Can this dark Potion really turn my hair into beautiful pinkish purple?" Lily shook the potions bottle skeptically.

"Yes, you can try it on some seaweed if you don’t believe it. Just soak the seaweed in water with a few drops of the Potion," Mu Ying said. "But it seems a bit inconvenient in the water..."

Only then did she realize she had overlooked this detail – the Hair Dye Potion was meant to be mixed in water for washing hair, but mermaids were always in the water, constantly washing their hair!

"No worries, watch this!"
