Chapter 221 - 218: Mermaid Sea Tree

Chapter 221: Chapter 218: Mermaid Sea Tree

Mu Ying stepped out of the Replica gate and immediately reverted to human form, then enveloped herself in a series of Amplification Spells like Underwater Breathing and Tree Skin Skill.

She then checked the information on the small saplings and pearl clams outside.

"Mermaid Sea Tree sapling, marine tree, male."

"Glowing pearl clam, level 1 marine Magic Beast, the pearl within continuously emits light, and the flesh is succulent."

The information was exceptionally simple, barely enough to conclude that the creatures inside the Replica were indeed mermaids, and that this tree was named after mermaids, definitely related to the Mermaid Clan. But, gender distinction in a tree?

This was Mu Ying’s first time encountering gender classification in a whole plant.

The Glowing pearl clam was similar to what she had observed before.

There were plenty of Glowing pearl clams, and there was no need to rush into action. She needed to explore this Replica further.

Mu Ying stepped into the Replica once more, and right away it felt like she bumped into something in her chest.

Looking down, she saw a little mermaid with big blue eyes wide open, who had forgotten to close her mouth.

"Hello?" Mu Ying, unable to speak their language, tried using Universal Language.

Σ(っ°Д°;)っ!

The little mermaid was scared stiff. Her tail whipped into a little whirlwind, and she swiftly ran away.

Although Mu Ying could now breathe underwater, moving through the water with just legs was cumbersome, her mobility possibly even less swift than in turtle form, and she could only watch the little mermaid disappear.

It was unexpected for Mu Ying. Given how curious the little mermaid seemed about the world outside the Replica gate, she was surprisingly timid upon the actual encounter. It was fortunate that Mu Ying had decided to transform outside the gate; transforming right in front of her might have frightened her into a faint.

At least she had managed to probe a bit and confirmed that she was indeed a little mermaid juvenile.

In Mu Ying’s eyes, the Sea Forest still stretched out endlessly. It seemed the fruit had lost its effect. She twiddled the tiny berry in her hand, which had now shriveled, its tiny seeds fully dead and inactive.

Not daring to stray far from the Replica gate, she probed some information on the larger Mermaid Sea Trees.

"Mermaid Sea Tree, marine tree, male. Once reaches a certain size and forms a forest, it can confuse Perception, trapping creatures that enter it. Only the juice of the female Mermaid Sea Tree’s fruit can negate this effect. Legend has it that the Mermaid Sea Tree is the guardian tree of the Mermaid Clan; the first Mermaid Sea Tree grew from the bones of a mermaid, and the tree’s juice is the blood of the deceased mermaid, hence mermaids are naturally immune to the tree’s illusory effects..."

The tree turned out to be quite special, and Mu Ying tried using Feedback Claw to see if she could extract something useful.

Available options were sea tree wood, Sea Tree Branch, and sea tree juice, but no Sea Tree Seeds or sea tree fruit.

She extracted a mass of blue juice, tested it, and found it no different from ordinary tree sap and ineffectual against illusions.

All that was left was to wait there. That little mermaid would likely go back to report, wouldn’t she?

She didn’t have to wait long. Soon, adult mermaids armed with weapons and farming tools suddenly appeared in the forest.

Mermaid warriors were riding shark sea beasts in the sky above the forest.

The little mermaid was hiding behind a big mermaid’s tail, peeking out.

An elderly-looking mermaid swam out, holding a long staff made from sea tree in her hand, although the patterns on it were especially intricate.

Upon seeing Mu Ying, she motioned to her people, and the tension eased a bit.

"Little elf, how did you come alone to this deep sea? I don’t recall any Sea Elves coming to this world, wait, you’re a High-level Elf, aren’t you? Could it be that some Wood Elves have migrated to the nearby islands?"

Mu Ying understood. This was Elf Language. "Little elf" — it seemed like another case of her being mistaken for an underage cub. But then, were there distinctions among the Elf clans? What was the difference between Sea Elves, High-level Elves, and Wood Elves?

[You have violated the Multiverse World Evolution Center Original World development confidentiality agreement. Given that the disclosure was unintentional, a warning is issued.]

Suddenly, she received a warning message from the Evolution Center. The older Mermaid Priestess still had some doubts, "Are you a native player?"

Mu Ying nodded, "I am a Lord of the nearby land. I came to the sea floor to find a mine site and accidentally discovered the instance entrance, so I came to explore it."

Mermaid Priestess harbored suspicions. All the natives of this world were supposed to be humans. She surely must be an Elf Clan descendant lost to the outside world — a High-level Wood Elf. Weren’t they considered treasures of the Elf Clan?

Nevertheless, the character of Elves was still trustworthy, and besides, she was just a young cub. It was only right to accommodate her well.

The demeanor of the old Mermaid Priestess relaxed, "I am the Priestess of this Mermaid Clan. You can call me Priestess Granny, just like the youngsters in our clan do."

"Priestess Granny, I am Mu Ying," Mu Ying called out obediently, introducing herself in the process.

Priestess Granny had naturally categorized her among the youngsters. Was her elf bloodline that valuable? She always felt that many races were friendly towards Elves, Half-Breeds were like this, and so were the Mermaids. It seemed that the reputation and credibility of Elves were quite good in the outside world!

"Only this old timer can speak Elf Language. You being a player must know Universal Language. Most of our clan speak Aquatic Language, but can also speak Universal Language. You can use Universal Language to communicate with them," the Mermaid Priest said. "Lily, come here."

Lily was the previously timid yet curious little mermaid. She swiftly swam over. With Priestess Granny present, her curiosity had certainly overcome her fear.

"The two of you are of similar age, and you’re so curious about the outer world, so you host Mu Ying. That’ll keep you from sneaking out all the time," the old priest told Lily.

Lily’s little head nodded furiously, "Okay, I promise to complete the task!"

As the old priest spoke, the other mermaids also put away their weapons and gave Mu Ying friendly smiles before moving back.

With the adults gone, Lily curiously smiled at Mu Ying, "Hello, I’m Lily, the youngest child in our clan. I’m 30 years old this year. I’m very pleased to meet you. Sorry about earlier; when I first saw a creature with long legs, I got scared, hehe."

"30 years old?" Mu Ying’s lips twitched. Was this what they called a similar age? And she looked so tiny yet was already 30 years old?

"Yeah, us mermaids typically live for five hundred years, and we don’t turn adult until we’re 100. But I read in books that mermaids don’t grow as fast as elves, so I might look younger, but I’m actually older than you," Lily said, tilting her head. She finally wasn’t the youngest anymore!

Mu Ying understood. Mermaids grew into adult forms slower.

"Um, would you like to touch my fish tail? I suppose someone with long legs would be curious about tails just as someone with a tail would be curious about legs," Lily couldn’t help but say.
