Chapter 74 Time to check homework
Chapter 74: Chapter 74 Time to check homework
Five minutes before the breakfast bell, Alina clapped her hands gently, her voice calm but cheerful. "Alright, sweethearts! That’s enough dancing for today — let’s go back inside."
The babies let out tiny squeaks of protest, but they were too tired to argue much. They trudged after her in a wobbly line, hair messy, cheeks pink, sneakers squeaking on the path. As they neared the side of the building, Alina stopped them near a neat stone tap area where the kids could wash up. The soft trickle of water made a few of them perk up.
"Come here, everyone!" Alina called softly. "You all worked so hard — your faces are so sweaty! Wash your little hands and faces nicely, alright?"
Drake was the first to jump up, splashing water on his cheeks so wildly that Luna scolded him for getting her sleeve wet. Boo floated over, poking his tiny fingers under the stream, giggling at the way it dripped through him. Lucian, of course, washed quietly, wiping his face with tiny, careful hands.
When they finished, they filed back to Class D — uniform a bit damp, hair sticking to their foreheads, but all of them beaming. Alina let them settle down however they liked.
Some sat on their beanbags, some perched on their little chairs, and Boo floated above Rocky’s empty seat, looking like he was telling ghost stories.
She chuckled as she sat at her desk, pretending to jot notes for next class while secretly listening to their chatter.
"I think my spin was best," Drake bragged, puffing out his chest.
"Yours was ugly," Boo squeaked back, sticking out his tongue. "Teacher did best spin."
"I liked Teacher steps," Kelpie whispered shyly. Even Luna nodded once, like she agreed but would never admit it out loud.
Alina’s heart melted as she looked around the warm, busy classroom. They discovered something new today, she thought, hiding her soft smile behind her hand.
As soon as the breakfast bell rang, the little ones squealed and ran off in all directions like excited ducklings — except for Boo, who, as usual, floated near Alina’s shoulder with his biggest, most mysterious grin.
Alina chuckled, wiping a bit of sweat from her forehead. Of course, she thought. My little gossip king is ready.
"Teacher! Teacher!" Boo squeaked, floating so close his cool mist brushed her cheek. "Boo has new gossip today! Big big secret! About principal again!"
Alina raised her eyebrows, trying not to giggle. "Oh? What did you hear now, my little ghost detective?"
Boo leaned forward, tiny baby finger pressed to his lips like he was a tiny old man about to spill all the world’s secrets. "Shhhh... you know what I heard?" he whispered, his big eyes wide and dramatic. "I heard... the principal has a secret sweet tooth!"
Alina blinked. "Sweet tooth?"
Boo nodded eagerly, voice dropping even lower. "Mmmm! He pretend he so scary and serious but I saw him once at midnight! He went in kitchen and ate whole cake!" Boo flailed his tiny arms for emphasis. "Big chocolate cake! And he ate it alone!"
Alina pressed her hand over her mouth to hide her giggle. Dante Nightshade — a scary demon lord sneaking cake at midnight?!
Boo added proudly, "Ghost elder told me, if someone come close, he hide cake behind big book! Like, who hide cake in book?! Boo thinks he’s silly."
Alina nearly burst into laughter imagining Dante’s cold, terrifying face smeared with chocolate icing behind some book. "I see... so our principal loves cake..."
Boo crossed his little misty arms, satisfied. "Yaaa! But shh, teacher must not tell him I told! He will turn Boo into cake!" Boo gasped, then giggled like he’d just told the world’s funniest joke.
Alina ruffled his ghostly hair with a gentle smile. "Your secret is safe with me, my little gossip king."
After Boo finally floated away leaving her with yet another unbelievable principal gossip.
Alina couldn’t stop giggling, She shook her head as she walked to the staffroom. He’s too much, she thought, picturing Boo’s serious ghost face telling her secrets like he was the king of whispers.
Breakfast was simple but nice — warm tea and fresh fruit, and a moment to sit beside Gabriel.
She didn’t stay long though, she liked being early for her babies.
When she stepped back into Class D, her soft smile grew when she saw them. They looked so... fresh after breakfast. Vlad Jr. sat tall at his desk, his lips extra red and his elegant tie perfectly straight. His eyes sparkled like he’d just come from a royal feast — which, in a way, he probably had.
Kelpie peeked up shyly from behind his tiny notebook, his damp blue hair falling over his eyes, tiny water droplets clinging to his collar. He’d clearly dunked himself in the sink.
Sable was in his usual seat near the corner, but his shadows were dancing on his desk like playful little worms. Every now and then he poked them back into line, only for them to wiggle free again. Alina covered her mouth to hide her giggle.
She took a calming breath and clapped her hands. "Alright, sweethearts! It’s math time!" she said cheerfully. "Teacher wants to check your homework from yesterday. Who wrote numbers one to ten in their notebook?"
A tiny chorus of squeaks and nods. Drake puffed his cheeks, looking proud — his notebook already open and held up high like a trophy. Vlad Jr. just gave her a tiny polite smile, his notebook perfectly neat.
"Good job, Vlad Jr.," she said warmly, and the little vampire puffed up a bit more, his red lips curving in that tiny ’grown-up’ smirk he always did when praised.
When she reached Kelpie’s desk, she crouched down beside him. "Can Teacher see?" she asked softly. Kelpie slid the notebook forward, revealing his careful, wobbly numbers — some of the ink still watery, but neat enough to melt her heart.
"Beautiful, Kelpie," she said, brushing his damp bangs out of his eyes. He squeaked and hid his face in his tiny hands.
Sable didn’t even have to be asked — he just turned his notebook around silently. His numbers were neat, almost drawn like tiny shadows. Alina gave him an approving smile and ruffled his soft hair. "Perfect, sweetheart."
