Chapter 75: Chapter 75 Who ate Felix’s homework?

When Alina turned to Luna’s desk, she saw the little wolf pup sitting up extra straight, her small nose in the air like she was royalty. Luna didn’t wait for Alina to ask — she proudly pushed her tiny notebook forward with both hands.

Alina’s heart warmed at the sight. Luna’s numbers were a bit shaky, but each one was carefully drawn, dark and bold, like she’d pressed the pencil extra hard to show she’d worked her best.

"Good job, Luna," Alina said, giving her a gentle head pat. "You wrote every number so well."

Luna huffed proudly, her eyes shining. She looked away quickly, pretending it wasn’t a big deal, but her feet tapped the floor under her chair like a little tail wagging.

Alina smiled to herself. My proud little wolf, she thought. Always pretending to be so tough. f .r e\ewebnov(e)(l).c om

And then Alina’s eyes fell on Felix. He sat perfectly straight in his tiny chair, arms crossed over his chest but his desk was completely empty — not a notebook or pencil in sight.

"Sweetheart..." Alina called softly, tilting her head with a patient smile. "Did you do your homework? I don’t see your notebook."

Felix’s lips pressed into a tight line. He let out a tiny, dramatic sigh through his nose. "Teacher..." he said, his voice very calm and serious, "my homework was eaten."

Alina raised an eyebrow, pretending to be shocked. "Eaten? By who, sweetheart? Did Boo sneak into your bag?"

Boo, who was floating nearby, squeaked. "Hey! Boo didn’t eat paper! Not tasty!" He puffed his cheeks out like a little balloon.

Felix shook his head slowly, ignoring Boo’s protest. "Not Boo. My mom ate it."

Alina covered her mouth, trying not to laugh. "Your... your mom? Ate your homework?"

Felix nodded firmly, eyes wide and honest. "Yes. She turned it into a pastry and ate it all. I worked so hard too. She didn’t even leave me a crumb."

Alina leaned down with a gentle smile, "Felix... sweetheart. If you didn’t finish your homework, you can just tell Teacher. But you shouldn’t make up silly lies, okay? Next time, just say you were sleepy or busy."

Felix gasped, clutching his tiny chest. "Teacher! I’m not lying!" He pouted so hard his tiny lower lip trembled. "She always does this! She likes annoying me when I ignore her. So she turned my notebook into a raspberry tart! I even smelled the jam."

Boo floated closer, eyes wide. "Waaaah... your mom eats paper?"

Felix shot him a sharp glare. "Not paper. Pastry"

Alina almost burst out laughing but managed to keep her voice soft. "Oh really? And did she burp out your math numbers too?"

Felix’s eyes narrowed, insulted. "She is very elegant. She doesn’t burp."

Alina covered her smile with her hand, trying so hard not to giggle. She reached out and tugged his soft ear gently. "So next time, maybe give your homework to me before your mother gets hungry. Hmm?"

And then, with one last pat on Felix’s soft hair, Alina stood up and moved away to start the class. Felix watched her go, his little mouth falling open in disbelief. Teacher didn’t believe me! he thought, puffing out his cheeks in tiny outrage. His small fists rested on his desk as he glared at her back.

One day, he huffed to himself, I’ll bring my mom here! Then Teacher will see she really turns things into pastries!

Beside him, Boo floated upside down, giggling at Felix’s serious face. "Pastry boy, don’t worry! Boo believes you. Next time, Boo will eat pastry before your mom does!"

Felix flicked Boo’s arm away with his finger. "Stay away from my pastries, ghost."

At the front, Alina clapped her hands gently, bringing the classroom back to her. The babies’ chatter quieted down as they turned their round eyes toward her, tiny notebooks and stubby pencils ready.

"Alright, sweethearts," Alina said in her soft, warm voice. "Today we’re going to learn something new. It’s called... multiplication!"

A few babies blinked. Drake squinted at his notebook. Luna crossed her arms, already looking suspicious. Kelpie tilted his head in confusion. Felix still looked grumpy but leaned forward anyway — he was curious, even if he pretended not to be.

Alina drew two big apples on the board. "Let’s start easy. If Teacher has two apples... and then Teacher gets two more apples... how many apples do I have now?"

Drake shot his hand up first. "Four!"

"Very good!" Alina beamed. "So, two apples plus two apples is four. But in multiplication, we say it like this: two times two equals four."

Boo squeaked, floating near the board. "So if Boo has two cookies, and then two more cookies... Boo has four cookies?"

Alina smiled when she saw their little faces all scrunched up, trying so hard to understand. She picked up a piece of chalk and drew another simple picture on the board — this time, four rows of apples.

"Okay, sweethearts," she said gently, tapping the drawing. "Let’s look at this together. Teacher has four baskets. In each basket, there are two apples. So... how many apples do I have in total?"

She turned around, eyes twinkling. Drake was already wiggling in his seat, his hand waving in the air. "Teacher! Teacher! I know! Wait... wait..." He started counting on his fingers, tongue poking out as he did. "Two plus two is four... plus two is six... plus two is... eight!"

Alina clapped her hands. "Very good, Drake! Yes, four baskets with two apples each makes eight apples. But instead of adding two plus two plus two plus two, we can say four times two equals eight." fr eewe(b)nove.l.co\m

Boo floated closer to the board, his big ghost eyes blinking. "Teacher! Boo doesn’t get it. What is ’times’? Like... clock times?"

Some of the babies giggled. Alina covered her mouth, trying not to laugh. "Good question, Boo! But no — this ’times’ means ’groups of.’ So when Teacher says four times two, it means four groups of two."
