Chapter 53: Chapter 53 Rocky–The gargoyle

Felix tilted his head slowly, his fluffy ears flicking once. He let out a soft hum, like he was considering it — which only made Drake roll his eyes and Boo float closer to see the show.

Without a word, Felix hopped down from his chair, landing with the silent grace of a baby fox prince. He didn’t bother standing properly — instead, he leaned back on his heels, hands tucked behind him, tail flicking like a feathery question mark.

He glanced at the others from under his lashes, his lips curling into the tiniest, smug little smirk. "My name is Felix," he said, his voice smooth — for a baby with a faint, mischievous lilt. "I am a kitsune."

Luna huffed, crossing her arms tighter. "We know," she grumbled under her breath.

Felix flicked an ear in her direction but ignored her completely. "My power is shapeshifting..." he said slowly, his eyes drifting to Alina, the corner of his mouth twitching. "And illusions."

Alina blinked, already bracing herself. "Sweetheart, remember — just a little show. Small illusions are enough, alright?"

Felix tilted his head, his eyes glinting with that sly, playful spark only he could pull off. "Of course, Teacher."

Then — with a flick of his tiny fingers and a sly grin — he shimmered. For a second, his small body glowed like sunlight caught on a pond, and suddenly, standing in front of Alina... was Alina.

The entire class froze. Luna’s eyes went wide, Boo gasped so hard he floated a foot higher, and Drake burst out laughing so loud he nearly fell off his chair.

There he stood arms crossed, head tilted but instead of his white hair and sly eyes, he looked exactly like Alina: same chestnut-brown hair, same warm hazel eyes, even the same calm teacher smile.

"Goodness!" the tiny Alina said, copying her soft voice with almost perfect mimicry. "Class D, behave yourselves or I will give you no cookies today!"

Boo snorted, "Two teachers again?!"

Drake was laughing so hard he had tears in his eyes. "Fake Teacher, you look silly!"

Alina’s real mouth dropped open, then curved into helpless laughter. She tapped his little illusion-nose. "Felix, you sly fox. That’s very clever but maybe Teacher doesn’t want two of herself running around causing trouble."

Felix smirked in his Alina form, then shimmered again, this time popping back to his fluffy-tailed self with his sly little grin firmly back in place.

He brushed imaginary dust off his uniform sleeve with grace. "I can be anything I want. But Teacher is the hardest to copy," he added with a tiny nod.

Alina ruffled his soft hair before he could slink away. "Next time, let’s try an illusion that doesn’t scare Teacher, hmm?"

Felix just gave her a sly, tiny grin, his ears twitching as he strutted back to his chair.

After Felix’s sly illusions had everyone giggling and whispering, Alina’s eyes naturally drifted to the quietest corner of the room where Rocky sat hugging his knees under his desk. His chubby rock textured cheeks were pink, and his round blue eyes peeked out from behind his arms like a shy little turtle peeking from its shell.

"Rocky?" Alina called gently, her voice warm as honey. "Sweetheart, would you like to share next?"

Rocky squeaked. He looked at her, then at the others and quickly buried his face in his arms again.

Boo floated closer, whispering dramatically to Drake, "Watch, he’ll turn into a rock again!"

Drake giggled, tail flicking. "Nooo, he’s gotta show it first!"

Alina knelt right there, level with Rocky’s desk, her soft smile beaming only at him. "It’s alright if you feel shy. Teacher is right here. And your friends will clap for you because your power is amazing, just like you."

Slowly, so slowly, Rocky peeked up again. He glanced at Luna, who just gave him a grumpy nod that totally meant Go on. He peeked at Sable, who nodded too, hugging his own shadowy figure. Encouraged, Rocky’s lips curved into the tiniest, shyest smile.

He shuffled out from behind his desk, his little feet dragging, his shoulders hunching like he wished he could fold into himself. When he reached the front, he stood there like a tiny statue, which, in his case, was funny and fitting.

He cleared his throat in his baby voice. "M-my name is Rocky..." he squeaked, cheeks burning pink. "I’m... I’m a gargoyle."

Kelpie’s eyes went huge, Vlad Jr. adjusted his tie, and even Felix raised one brow like, Hmm, this should be interesting.

Rocky hugged his round little tummy and continued, his voice so soft Alina had to lean in. "I can turn to stone. And... and I’m super strong when I’m stone." .com

"Show! Show!" Boo squeaked, floating upside down above him.

Rocky squeaked too, covering his mouth with his small hands. Alina laughed softly, brushing his hair off his forehead. "Just a tiny bit, okay? Don’t get too heavy, sweetheart."

Rocky nodded, his eyes fluttering shut. A faint ripple of gray light shimmered across his skin. In seconds, his soft cheeks and tiny arms hardened into smooth, pale stone like a perfect baby gargoyle statue standing in the middle of the classroom.

Boo gasped dramatically, flicking Drake’s ear. "Told you! Rock!"

Drake clapped his chubby hands. "So cool!"

Alina, meanwhile, circled Rocky once, tapping his stone shoulder gently with her knuckles. Clink clink. She smiled wide. "So strong! So brave! And so handsome too–what a wonderful gargoyle."

Hearing that, Rocky’s eyes blinked open, his stony face melting back to his soft baby skin with a faint shimmer. His round cheeks turned pinker than ever, and he giggled so shyly that Alina couldn’t help pulling him into a warm little side hug.

He squeaked softly, but his small arms wrapped around her just the same.

"Good job, Rocky. So strong and brave. Teacher is so proud of you," she whispered.

Rocky beamed, hugging her tighter for just a second before waddling back to his desk where he immediately half-hid behind it again.
