Chapter 52 Spooky ghost and Water spirit
Chapter 52: Chapter 52 Spooky ghost and Water spirit
"My name is Boo—" he declared, in his squeaky baby voice that made Drake snort behind his hand, "—and I am a ghost! The spookiest ghost in the whole kindergarten! Maybe even the whole world!"
Luna raised an eyebrow. "Hmph."
Rocky hugged the edge of his desk, eyes round. Kelpie peeked over his desk, fascinated. Sable’s little eyes were wide and sparkly.
Boo puffed his chest out, looking very proud. "My powers are... I can vanish —" He stopped, narrowing his eyes at Drake and Vlad Jr. "Which means I can hide from snitches."
Drake huffed. "Snitch?!"
"And!" Boo raised a tiny finger dramatically. "I can go through walls. Or desks. Or people if they’re mean."
Before Alina could say Careful, Boo giggled wickedly, and his little body shimmered like morning fog. In the blink of an eye, he faded from sight completely.
"Oooh..." Kelpie whispered.
"Where did he go?" Rocky squeaked, eyes huge.
Alina laughed softly, though her eyes darted around, knowing Boo’s tricks too well. "Boo, sweetheart... come back. No spooking your friends too much."
A giggle echoed from nowhere. Then suddenly— POP! Boo’s tiny head poked right through Drake’s desk, upside down, his eyes wide and mouth open like "Boo!"
"AHH!" Drake yelped, nearly tipping over his chair. Luna growled softly, flicking her tail in annoyance.
Boo wiggled his fingers. "See? Best ghost!" He phased the rest of his tiny body out of the desk, floating back to Alina like he’d done nothing wrong.
Alina covered her mouth, trying to hold in her giggle. She cupped his chubby ghost cheeks gently, her fingers passing right through his hair. "Incredible, Boo. So clever. But next time... maybe don’t pop out of your friends’ furniture, hmm?"
Boo giggled, shrugging his wispy shoulders. "Okay..." He gave her a baby smirk that said Probably not, though, then zipped back to his seat, drifting over the others’ heads like a sleepy balloon.
Alina shook her head fondly, tucking her hair behind her ear as she looked at the circle of curious little faces.
After Boo zipped back to his seat, still giggling behind his tiny ghost hands, the room settled into a hush again. Alina let her eyes drift around the circle until they landed on the quietest corner where little Kelpie sat, hugging the edge of his desk with his pale fingers.
He peeked up when he felt her eyes on him. His blue hair looked extra shiny in the sunlight, his watery eyes wide and round like a startled deer. He fiddled with the sleeve of his uniform, clearly shy but trying to be brave.
"Kelpie?" Alina called, her voice warm and gentle. "Sweetheart, would you like to share next?"
Kelpie’s tiny mouth popped open, but no sound came out at first. Slowly, he stood up, his little knees knocking together under his desk.
"Yes..." he squeaked, voice so soft that even Luna’s ears twitched forward to catch it.
He stepped forward into the open space where Drake had shown his sparks and Boo had vanished into desks. He stood there, hugging his chest like he was holding in a puddle of butterflies.
"My... my name is Kelpie..." he whispered, his voice like water trickling over smooth stones. He peeked at Alina, who gave him her biggest, warmest smile — the one that said You’re safe. Take your time.
"I am a water spirit," Kelpie continued, his pale cheeks turning rosy. "I can... I can control water."
Boo leaned forward with big eyes. "Show! Show!"
Kelpie flinched a little at Boo’s loud voice but nodded. He squeezed his tiny fists together and took a deep breath, the air around him suddenly cool and misty.
Little droplets formed in the air around his head, spinning slowly like tiny beads of rain caught in sunlight. They shimmered softly, twirling into a delicate swirl above his palms, a tiny floating spiral that looked like a baby wave.
Rocky’s mouth dropped open. Drake gasped, tail flicking with awe. Even Vlad Jr. gave a tiny nod of approval.
But Alina’s eyes widened just a bit, a sliver of worry threading through her warmth. Not too much...
Kelpie’s hands trembled, and the spiral grew bigger — droplets dripping onto the floor like a leaking faucet. He squeaked in surprise, eyes rounding in panic.
Before the tiny puddle could spread, Alina stepped forward, gently wrapping her warm hands around his cold little fists. The water spiral popped like a bubble, sprinkling a few harmless drops on her skirt.
"Beautiful, sweetheart," Alina said softly, kneeling so she could look him right in the eyes. "But remember — you don’t need to make it so big. A little show is enough. When you feel it getting too much, squeeze your hands like this—" She guided his fingers into a gentle fist. "—and breathe. In and out. It helps your magic listen to you."
Kelpie blinked up at her, eyes shimmering like a deep pond. He nodded slowly, cheeks pink. "Okay... Teacher."
Alina brushed a wet lock of hair off his forehead and tapped his tiny nose. "Perfect. You did so well. Everyone loved it, didn’t you?"
The other babies all nodded, even Luna gave him a tiny approving hmph.
Kelpie’s little mouth curled into the shyest smile. He scurried back to his seat, holding his damp hands against his chest like a precious secret.
Alina stood, wiping her palms dry on her skirt, her heart swelling. Goodness... these little ones will be the end of me, she thought.
"Who’s ready next?" she asked.
When Kelpie tiptoed back to his seat, his cheeks still pink and his eyes shining, Alina’s gaze drifted to the far where a certain little fox was lounging like he owned the room.
Felix.
Even in his uniform, he sat half-slouched in his chair, one tiny ankle propped on the other knee, his fluffy tail flicking lazily behind him. His white hair fell into his sly eyes, which glinted with amusement as if he’d been silently judging everyone’s performances.
Alina crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow, trying not to smile too wide. "Felix?" she asked sweetly. "Would you like to show your special power next?"
