I Am Tired Of Being A Hero
Chapter 97: A touch

Chapter 97: A touch

Ravi was confused then, his eyes widened, "Sarah!"

Arlen grinned and placed a finger on his lips, "It is a secret. Promise me not to tell."

"Why would I tell?" He certainly was not born with the same gossip gene as Lisa. Besides this was a secret that Arlen shared with him, a secret that belonged to the two of them, why would he allow anyone to share it?

"There is a certain temptation in gossip." Arlen teased as he carried the second basket of corn down from the cart.

"There is also a certain temptation to jump down a mountain but you don’t see people doing that do you?" Ravi replies, rolling his eyes and causing Arlen to chuckle.

Oh! His laugh, it sounded so good that he could feel his stomach tumbling into knots at the sound.

Arlen squatted down beside him and took out one of the corn. The corn was very long and sturdy with kernels bursting at the seams, exposing their golden color.

"Amazing. I have not seen such good corn in a while. Is it sweet or waxy?"

"Sweet." Ravi replied as he took the corn, "You are already dressed. No need to help, just go inside."

"And leave you here. No way." Even though he did not help, Arlen squatted beside him, being a complete bother but Ravi did not ask him to move.

"We called a lot of people to the office today so we have to have breakfast before going to work today," Arlen said and Ravi nodded.

He and Lisa had collected the list of the staff that worked in the Estate and all the workers that signed in, they would be called to the station for an interview. For a big case like this, they could not make any mistakes.

"We got a reader from the Heroes Association, we can eliminate those who are not, mutants from the group. And then we would interview the rest." Arlen said thinking, "I think we are investigating in the wrong direction. Maybe we should study victimology as well. Ravi..."

"Yes."

’What do you say, there is a new psychology professor at Davenport Community College. We could pay him a visit."

"Why would we need to visit a professor to catch the killer?"

"I heard he has two PhDs in criminal psychology and criminology. Maybe he could help."

Ravi shrugged, although he had to be honest, he liked the thought of the two of them going out to investigate together. It would also be good if they go catch the killer as soon as possible and see the dark circles under Arlen’s eyes. The sooner they catch him, the more he and his team can relax.

"Sure, after the interviews, we can go. I am done." Ravi said as he stood up. He took some corn cobs and placed them in the basket.

"You said you brought steamed buns right?"

Arlen’s eyes brightened and Ravi had to squint his eyes at the joyous expression on Arlen’s face.

Arlen stretched out to pass the packet, smiling smugly, "I have been keeping it warm with my ability."

Praise me! Praise me! The words were all but tattooed on his face.

Ravi smiled helplessly, "Good Job."

Arlen smiled in turn and Ravi could feel his heart skip a bit, he tore his gaze from the other person and coughed slightly.

"Let’s go. We have to hurry up or we will be late."

"Oh! What happens if we are late?"

Ravi looked back, "100 dollars gone. Like that." He used his hand to show how fast the money would vanish.

"No wonder you are never late. And here I was thinking that you were particularly dedicated to your job."

He was teasing him again, Ravi rolled his eyes, "It is a job, should I give my heart and soul to it?" He would not do that again.

Arlen was not upset, this person’s lightness to his job had somehow gotten to him, if he was the Arlen that he had been before coming here, Why would he be here calm when the killer had not been caught? He would not even leave the office, sleeping in the lobby and leaving off pizza and takeouts.

"You are every employee’s nightmare I can assure you." His words made Ravi chuckle and Arlen smiled, looking at him.

They entered the house and Rqavi looked around and he saw Asher in the kitchen. He was making orange juice when he saw Ravi, he smiled and rushed over with a glass of orange juice.

Ravi took it, "Thank you, Asher."

Arlen moved to chill it, his large warm hand wrapped around the cup, touching his. Ravi felt as if an electric spark had touched his hand and he let go of the cup, Arlen held tightly to the cup, not letting it fall.

He looked at Ravi, "Are you alright?"

Ravi’s finger rubbed the place where their hands had touched and he nodded, "I am fine." Two shades of blue eyes were looking at him with worry, seeing them stand beside each other, they looked kind of similar, "I am fine."

He is just crazy. Just now, he wanted to grab that hand and graze his fingertips on it, tracing it and counting every vein he could find. Crazy. He is crazy. He needed to go to the club, after this rubbish arsonist case, he would go. The hand was so warm, it was as if every part of Arlen was a burning sun.

Oh heaven!

"Are you sure you are alright? Your face is a little red." Arlen said and Asher nodded right next to him.

"It is the sun."

"It is 7:03, the sun is not yet out."

Ravi glared at Arlen, why won’t this person just allow him to lie in peace without puncturing his lies as if it were a balloon competition?

Arlen, who received the glare, chuckled, he was already so fun to tease.’

Ravi washed his hands and then rubbed some oil, salt, and spices onto the corn before putting it in the oven. Ah! It would be better grilled.

"I have to take my bath. I would be right out. Cap..Arlen, if I am not down in fifteen minutes, turn off the stove."

He walked upstairs and took out his phone to send a scathing message to Ten grams of sugar.
