Chapter 98: The gas grill
Chapter 98: The gas grill
"Integrity is something that one should always imbibe in themselves. You have broken your promise to me several times. If you have a situation, you should have stated it. If you sold the gas grill, you should have started instead. But you keep me hanging for two weeks, that is just cruel on your path. I would not like to do business again with you."
Arlen read the message with equal parts guilt and equal part amusement. This retired river reminded him of someone, he looked in the direction of the stairs.
He sent another puppy apologizing, " Sorry. I thought that you had already gotten the grill from someone else. I would be busy at work so I would leave the grill in a store not far from my apartment building. You can go and get it anytime and just drop the money with the shopkeeper. As for the peppered noodles and fish, you can drip it with the shopkeeper and text me."
"Fish? We did not say anything about fish."
"If you add fish, I would charge you 75 dollars instead for the grill."
Retired River did not reply so, Arlen lifted his head from his phone and looked at the teenager who was staring at him cautiously, "You gave Ravi orange juice, wouldn’t you give me any?"
The teenager lowered his head, "It is just for Ravi."
"Ah! You also dislike me. It reminds me of your namesake, he also disliked me. It is a little funny how the two of you are similar. I wonder..."
"I would give it to you. The orange juice." Asher hurriedly interrupted and poured the fruit juice into a place, he then thought for a while and entered his room. Ravi had bought him a lot of snacks, he took out a package of cookies and opened it, pouring some in a plate, he then passed it to Arlen.
"Stop talking about the cats. I hate cats."
Arlen smiled, he tasted the milk cookies and drank some juice. Sweet, "Is that so?"
Asher bobbed his head.
Arlen’s phone buzzed and he spared the child and returned to his phone.
"Is your gas grill damaged?"
Arlen chuckled, "Integrity is good but truth is even better. If it is not good, you can come back to the store. I have a friend who is a police officer, I would not cheat you."
"What a coincidence! I have a friend who is an officer as well." Retired River threatened.
"Oh! What is the name of your police officer friend."
The person did not reply immediately. The small italics, typing appeared for more than two minutes before the person wrote, "The Captain, Detective Sinclair."
Arlen choked on his drink and checked his name. That was his name, right? Ah! Did this person just browse the Davenport Police Bureau and choose his name? Or maybe he knew him, Arlen had a lot of friends after all, he chuckled, he suddenly wanted to meet this person.
He should tell Maria to take a picture for him.
There was the sound of footsteps and Arlen put away his phone. Ravi had already freshened up and was wearing his police uniform, not completely, he was wearing only the trousers, and the jacket was strewn across his shoulder.
His hair fell across his face and those hazel eyes softened when he saw him. Arlen subconsciously stood up and walked over to him.
"Hey." He said softly, "Should we go?"
Ravi shook his head, "I have to make breakfast. Didn’t you say that we would have a heavy workload today? And you brought steamed buns, we have to eat."
He kept the jacket on the living room sofa and entered the kitchen. Opening the fridge, he looked through the ingredients and then he looked at the steamed buns on the table. Should he make millet porridge? There was not enough time.
He entered the pantry with a bowl and took out some eggs.
"Can I Help?" Arlen asked and Ravi shook his head, "You too, go and watch television." He said to Asher.
This was a simple breakfast so he did not help him. He cut some tomatoes, onions, and peppers and then cracked five eggs into a bowl. Slicing some garlic, he added it to a little oil and sauteed it for a few seconds, then he opened a can of sardines and added the oil to the pan before adding his onions. After a few minutes, he added the tomatoes and then the sliced pepper and sauteed them together for a while. He then added a bit of curry and some thyme and turned them for a few more minutes.
After they had fried, he broke the canned sardines into the mixture and then added the eggs, he reduced the fire to medium-low and then began to stir occasionally before switching off the stove in a few minutes.
He then headed to his garden and got a few lettuce, "You can help now." He said to Arlen who was watching him silently. They built the sandwich carefully, it was a very simple one.
They sliced the steamed bun and added some of the scrambled tomato, sardine, and egg then the lettuce. Arlen wanted to be extra and sprinkled some raw onions and even placed some slices of raw tomatoes.
"That does not make any sense. It is in the egg." Ravi could not hold himself when the other presented him with the sandwich like it was a marathon trophy.
"I think it is exceptionally creative." Arlen said with a huge smile.
Ravi stopped slicing the bun and clapped his hands, "Magnificent. Ten marks."
The two of them looked at each other and chuckled.
Ravi left Arlen to finish up and turned to make hot chocolate for Asher and coffee for the two of them.
"How do you like your coffee?"
"Sweet."
"What kind?"
"The sweet kind." Arlen said with a smile, "As long as it is coffee, I would drink. Just make me the one you like."
Steamed buns sandwich, baked co,rn, and a cup of hot chocolate, "Asher, breakfast is ready." Arlen called from the kitchen as he handed the tray to the teenager.
"Here, yours." Ravi handed Arlen his tray. There was something in Arlen’s eyes when he looked at him, he did not know what it was but he liked it.
