I Am Tired Of Being A Hero
Chapter 96: Kora’s secret

Chapter 96: Kora’s secret

As he was still speaking, the gate creaked open.

Was it Lana or Malik? Ravi turned and his entire body froze.

The most difficult thing to do was to turn back time, even those born with temporal abilities would tell you that it is impossible to do. Pausing time, stressful but doable, making time pass faster, needs a few days to rest but sure, making time go back, you have to be an immortal at least and submit perhaps 100 petitions to the Heavenly Emperor.

At this moment, Ravi wished so much that he could just turn back time with a snap of his finger.

The gate creaked open and a sunny, handsome man in a light blue police uniform walked in. He saw Ravi and his lips moved to a smile and then that gaze moved to land on Asher and then back at Ravi.

Forget freezing time, could he pause Arlen’s actions, carry him outside, Ask Asher to transform back, and then make Arlen think he hallucinated the whole incident?

Forget it, he could not harm him.

"Good morning Ravi and who is this little fellow?" He asked.

Asher looked at him and Ravi could read the expression in those cornflower blue eyes, the child was debating whether to run away, hide, or just disappear into a puff of smoke.’

Him, too. Their thoughts were completely in sync.

Arlen raised an inquisitive brow and Ravi could recognize that light in his eyes when he was about to analyze and x-ray everything in front of him.

"My nephew!" He shouted, "He is my nephew. He would be living with me."

"His parents?"

"Late." Ravi said, shaking his head as if he was sad about their deaths.

Arlen’s face took on an expression of sympathy as well, "Oh! Ravi, I am so sorry."

Ravi nodded quietly and looked at the child who followed him to nod quietly.

Arlen looked at the two of them, "Didn’t you say you were an orphan and you had no brothers and sisters."

Did he? He was a Sentinel, not a member of the Gnosis Society, they didn’t teach him the best way to lie or make up excuses when caught in the act.

He licked his lips, his entire appearance nervous with a clear hint of guilt. Arlen wanted to chuckle, but he held himself waiting patiently for the excuse.

"My cousin. I took him as my brother."

"Oh! Okay." He looked at the teenager who could barely reach his waist and smiled kindly at him, the child gave him a very familiar look before scurrying over to where Ravi was.

"Yes." Ravi smiled, he bought it. He patted Asher’s head, "Go in and take out things for breakfast, I would be right in."

"Asher. That is the name of the cat, does he have the same name as the cat?"

Ravi froze and then nodded, "Yes, the cat was named after him."

"Yes, they have eyes and where is the cat?"

Ravi could feel his throat drying up, he suddenly wanted to drink some water, "My cousin took him back."

"The dead cousin?"

Ravi shook his head, "Of course not. Another cousin, I have...lots of cousins. Captain, so glad to see you. Did anything happen?" Ravi struggled to move his attention away from Asher.

Arlen gave him a look and his eyes crinkled into a smile, this officer of his could be so cute at times, "Nothing." He raised the package in his hands, "I got some food, I came to apologize."

Ravi cocked his head, "Apologize? For what?"

Arlen also looked confused, "I am not sure. I just knew you were angry with me yesterday."

"I was not angry with you."

Arlen bent his head to give a look.

"Okay. A bit."

"Why? What did I do?"

Ravi pursed his lips, his anger had been pretty irrational so he could not explain it either.

"Does it matter? I already forgive you."

"Without telling me what it is that I did?" Arlen asked, raising a brow.

Ravi nodded his head, "Yes."

He looked so righteous that Arlen sighed helplessly, "You are not going to tell me so I don’t do it again and offend you. I could not sleep last night, I keep on thinking what it is that I did. I even ordered a new fridge for the office in charge. Were you upset that I got our new colleague a fridge and I did not...It is it, isn’t it? You were upset about that."

Ravi hurriedly shook his head, schooling his face, "No, I was not."

Arlen squinted his eyes, "Your face now, it looked really guilty."

Ravi swallowed and he took down the basket from the cart, "My face looks naturally guilty."

Arlen chuckled and moved closer, "You are lying. I can tell."

Oh heaven! His scent. Ravi’s nose was filled with that vanilla with undertones of amber, which could smell so good. So good that he was driving him insane, he looked up at those ocean blue eyes smiling mischievously down at him, his throat felt dry for a different reason, his heart thundered in his chest.

He stretched his hand and pushed him away, moving back.

"It was not just me, Lisa, Draco was worried. She just came and you were buying her things."

Arlen chuckled, "It is called bribing. She is a very talented forensic doctor so I was hoping I could convince her to stay in Davenport but I understand." He raised his hand, "I would only buy things for you."

Ravi turned red and gritted his teeth, looking like a cat about to pounce on Arlen. Arlen chuckled, "For the team. Slip of tongue."

Liar. Ravi said in his heart but he could feel as if a cloud was lifting him up, light and happy.

He bent down to pick the corn, "So you don’t...I mean is it going to stay."

"Turns out that she did not need the equipment at all to convince her."

"Oh! So she is going."

"No, she just needed the number of a beautiful single mother to stay."

Ravi was confused and his eyes widened, "Sarah!"

Arlen grinned and placed a hand on his lips, "It is a secret. Promise me not to tell."
