I Am Tired Of Being A Hero -
Chapter 94: Fluctuation of energy
Chapter 94: Fluctuation of energy
Ravi yawned and rolled over on the bed. Last night, Malik did not go back to the office but returned home with him. They had talked late into the night.
Why did he do that? He blamed the wine.
The thought helped more than he was willing to admit, when Ravi had woken up this morning, he was feeling much better than he had been feeling yesterday.
He snuggled in his blanket. Oh, how he wished that today was not work, Should he take a sick leave but the Arson case?
He yawned again and rolled over until he reached the edge. He wore his slippers and walked downstairs.
"Meow."
"Good morning to you too, Asher." He recalled what Malik had said yesterday. He should make up his mind because if he decided to go the long way with Asher, he could not just leave him halfway. He would need to go all the way to the end.
Adopting a child. Him, Ravi?
Ravi swallowed. What child would even like to be adopted by him? The amount of blood he had shed, his emotional pitfalls, and all his flaws were so evident in his eyes. He was not the kind of parent that he saw on TV.
He sighed and looked down, the cat did not move, there was an expectant expression on his face.
Why?
Oh!
Ravi smiled and bent down to pat his head, "Good job." He was about to rise, when he remembered.
"That necklace around your neck does two things. It would wrap you in a bubble that no one can get in or hurt you and then it would contact me to come and get you. It is a pair, with my earring. Anytime, you are in danger. I would know and I would come and get you. Any time. So do not be afraid, I would not let anyone hurt you ever."
Those cornflower eyes stared at him and he could clearly see the question there.
Why?
Ravi’s lips pursued, "It is a selfish reason." The wine and the talk made him feel lighter, "I was an orphan. Am. I am an orphan. When I was young, there were a lot of things I wanted but nobody gave them to me so...It is not..." He paused, struggling on how to articulate these thoughts of his, "Asher. If you would let me, I would take care of you. I know I am not the best person too, but before we find someone better..."
Suddenly he felt the energy around him fluctuate and Ravi held himself not to move or fall into his habitual flight.
In the next minute, a young teenager was standing in front of him. The teenager was very pale, his skin reminiscent of porcelain, long messy white and black hair framed his face and his eyes were a beautiful cornflower blue. He hurriedly used the sofa pillow to cover himself.
His face was lowered and his voice was hoarse like he had not used it for a very long time, "I am sorry I lied to you."
Ravi watched him quietly, he was too pale and too thin. Was the food not enough, should he increase the quality? And shouldn’t a thirteen-year-old be taller, he was taller than this, right?
He needed to take him to a hospital, right? For medical care. At least there were no scars on his body, he had not been abused by that group of people.
He was really too thin, his cheeks should be fatter, all the teenagers he knew had round cheeks.
He needed to go shopping, for clothes. Toys? He has not even bought the phone. This was really a child. Ravi could feel his heartbeat increasing. What does one do with a child?
Asher’s heart pounded in his chest and he sneakily looked up to see Ravi. He caught the fear in his eyes and his body felt like sinking. He regretted it, everything was so good like a dream. Why did he go and ruin it?
He was really a bastard who ruined everything he touched.
He just really wanted to talk to him. He wanted to talk to him so much. Tears polled in his eyes but he did not dare let them fall.
"Sorry, I will go. You would not see me again. Sorry." he choked.
His voice confused Ravi and he looked up to see tears.
"Why are you crying? Why do you want to go?"
"You don’t want me anymore now I am like this." The tears rolled down, "I should not have shifted back."
He was an idiot. Ravi touched the dust on the child’s hair and it transformed into a set of clothes like his and he pulled the child in for a hug, "Why would I not want you? I was just scared for a second, I had not taken care of a child before. I did not know what to do."
"You are the best. You are the best person I have ever met." Asher hugged him tighter, not believing how warm this person was. He really did not dream him up, Ravi was real.
Best?
"Who taught you how to flatter someone?" Ravi said, pulling away from the hug but the smile on his face was still present, "So do you want to stay with me? Think about it."
Asher shook his head, he did not want to think about it, "I want to stay with you." He swallowed, "But I am not any good and I would cause trouble for you. But I can help you, I can get you money from banks and stores."
Ravi chuckled, "Have you forgotten I am a police officer."
"Ah!" the child had a foolish expression on his face, "Then I can help you...I can help you...I don’t know what I can help you do." He was really so foolish.
"Just grow up well." He patted his head, the hair was coarse to the touch, and he needed to buy some good shampoo as well.
The familiarity of the action made Asher smile. He placed this hand on his head.
"And this morning, you can help harvest corn. We need to harvest corn before I go to work."
The child nodded and Ravi smiled, patting his head.
