I Am Tired Of Being A Hero
Chapter 92: Dinner with his neighbour

Chapter 92: Dinner with his neighbour

The waiter came over and the two of them handed in their orders. Malik had ordered beef tataki and oden while Ravi had ordered grilled fish, pickled fish soup and a bowl of white rice.

When it came to drinking wine, these few years had taught Ravi that grilled food was a good accompaniment. Of course, the best accompaniment for wine was nothing, he enjoyed it with nothing but his thoughts.

"About Asher?" Ravi started, moving his seat closer. The expression on his face hardened as he waited for Malik to speak.

Malik was quiet, with green empty eyes staring at me. After a minute, he said, You care for him."

"yes, I told you before He is a protected witness..."

"You are not a very good liar, Ravi. I initially wanted to tell you what emotions I was sensing from him but I decided not."

"Malik. If it concerns Asher..." His voice was cold, he might not be the most responsible person to take care of a child but he had no intention to let something happen to Asher under his watch. The child was...well he meant a lot to him.

"Don’t misunderstand. I just felt sharing his emotions without his consent was not fair or right. But I can tell you that he is running from someone. There was this constant fear that this person would find him or was watching him, I can’t tell exactly which."

Ravi took a deep breath. He might have to have a conversation with Asher, if he could give him the name of the person that Ravi could take care of once and for all. It might not be the best Sentinel to do but...

Malik was surprised at the delicious dark emotion that wafted from Ravi but he sighed. It was like Anouk all over again, no matter the darkness, it originated from a desire to protect.

He wanted to roll his eyes, they probably would not kill the person when they found him but would turn him over to the justice system to take care of. Like that was possible.

Or maybe Ravi was not like Anouk, the others’ mind was so protected that he could not tell what he was truly feeling, his emotions were so wrapped in a liter of fog that Malik could not tell if the emotion wafting out was his true emotions.

Would this person be able to kill, Malik could not tell.

Him, he would make sure that the deed gets done. Maybe he should reach a deal with little Asher.

"There is something else, this is my professional opinion and a bit of personal opinion as well, Asher does not have the normal emotional or...intellectual health of a child his age."

Ravi frowned, the child had grown up with a villain organization after all. He clenched his fist. Should he give him up to an orphanage after all?

"That might be worse. You said out loud." Malik lied, his fingers trembling with excitement, he had got in his mind, and even though he had been bounced out almost immediately, he had gotten a glance at the thoughts in Ravi’s mind at this moment, at least the outer layer.

Not emotions, a full thought. He was right, this method was the best to get in.

"There is no orphanage in Davenport that would handle that kind of care that he needs." He had no desire to let a shapeshifter escape his grasp, "It would be not easy but you have to take care of him yourself. Think about it and if you really want to, then I can help you. School, therapy, friends, fun, he needs a lot of things to thrive like any child. Don’t look at me so distrustfully like that."

"What do you have to gain?"

"From helping a child."

"Yes. This is not helping a child ride a bike. I might not understand clearly but whatever you are talking about would take hundreds of hours wouldn’t it? Why would you help?"

Malik smiled, "You are right. I want money."

Ravi froze, he had been so distrustful the moment that Malik said that he wanted to help. His mind was running around so much that it ached, what did he want? To use Asher’s ability, to use his ability? Was he in some kind of trouble? Did it concern his mission on Earth?

An immortal does not act without a reason. So there must be something.

Money? Money!!

Said Malik, stretching his hand, "Yes, Money. As much as you can give. I have been having fruit loops and it is not the low-sugar ones that I like. I am raising two people at home. I want money."

Ravi’s cheeks reddened, he did not even have said money, Perhaps, it would be better if the other had some kind of ulterior motive, "Look, our food is here. Let’s eat first."

The food was placed in front of him and he picked up the spoon and took a sip of the soup, it tasted a little sour, so delicious. He placed the bowl of rice into the soup with some vegetables and mixed them. It was even more tasty.

After the rice and pickled fish soup, Ravi rubbed his hands together and looked at the tray of grilled fish and two bottles of wine in front of him, he poured the wine into a wooden bowl.

Taking the cup in his hand, he brought it to his mouth. He drank the entire cup in four gulps and closed his eyes, feeling the wine run through his entire body. The flavor of the win was beyond just, ’sweet’, it was like spring river was running through him.

"Good wine?"

"Yes." He said while smacking his lips to chase the flavor.

He looked at Malik who was enjoying his bowl of noodles and then took a slice of the grilled fish and placed it on top of his bowl.

"They go well together." He said with a hint of guilt.

Malik had a gentle smile, "I did not take you for someone who enjoyed sharing food." He used his chopsticks to pick up the food.

Of course, he did not even like them moving next to him made him feel like someone was violating his privacy, not to mention food.

But he was a broke person. Where was he going to get money from?

Ah! Raising a child is not easy.
