I Am Tired Of Being A Hero -
Chapter 91: Chatting with Malik
Chapter 91: Chatting with Malik
Ravi’s lips twitched and he chuckled.
"That bad?"
"Worse." Malik shuddered, "I can make simple meals, like toast, noodles, and baked potatoes but I hate cooking so I let Sage do it. He does not really care what he eats."
"He can take some cooking lessons online. As long as he follows the recipes, it would be alright." Ravi advised. He did not know how to cook when he came over here but after constantly spending his money on food, he had to learn how to cook.
Simple congee, pasta, rice dishes. One at a time, until he got to where he was.
"Thank you, I will tell him when I get home. Do you know any particular person or page that is good at teaching cooking? I am also interested in learning."
It has been a while so Ravi had to think for a few minutes more, "Ah! I think they are on my laptop."
"Should we exchange numbers? You can send the videos to me when we get home?" Malik paused walking, he took out his phone from his back pocket and gave it to Ravi.
It was not locked when he opened it. The phone had a simple interface, it was a picture of someone’s hand on a cup.
Ravi did not look and swiped up to contacts, after putting the number, he dialed his and returned the phone to Malik.’
Malik smiled, "What did you save the contact as?"
"Eh?"
"Officer, you have not yet told me your name."
"You must be the new neighbor, my name is Malik Patel. This was my family home growing up, things happened in the Capital, well, I lost my son and I decided to come back here with my family. I am hoping..Look at me rambling on, What is your name?"
That conversation suddenly came back to the forefront of Ravi’s mind and his cheeks colored. He felt embarrassed at the way he had behaved, if someone had acted that way towards him: incarnation or not? He would not have a good face for that person again and yet this person seemed to bear no anger towards him?
Ravi could not sense a little bit of ill intent.
"Ravi West. I am a police officer at the Davenport Police Bureau. Pleasure." He formally introduced himself.
Mali smiled, "Malik Patel, I teach at the Davenport Community College. Pleasure."
The air was light and refreshing. Relaxing. This incarnation aura reminded him of Keyne.
Keyne had been an elf before he became a Sentinel and whenever Ravi came over to visit, he felt all his problems fading away in that room that was like a forest.
Keyne. Alya had found his soul in Luxor, he should have reincarnated by now. What was eighteen years of human life in the elven world, would he even be reincarnated as an elf? Maybe his reincarnation had already died and he had returned to being a sentinel.
Calm, peaceful Keyne.
"I can feel you looking at me, What is it?" Malik asked.
Ravi was silent for a while, "Nothing, you just reminded me of someone."
"Ah! The person that dumped you today."
Ravi felt like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, "I was not dumped!"
The people who were passing looked at him and he signed, "I was not dumped okay? I am not in a relationship. It was just work troubles." A relationship. That word had never entered his head before and now, the thought made his throat dry.
Why? He and Arlen are just friends.
"Okay. Let’s get some drinks and food and we can talk about it."
"There is nothing to talk about." Ravi quickly interjected, he was not the kind that would share his feelings to someone he had just met. Well, even though they did not just meet, he still did not want to.
"Then just accompany me to eat, I would also trouble you to send some dinner to Sage and Lana. A favor, besides we have something we have to discuss, don’t we?"
Asher. Ravi nodded, he then recalled that the others could not see him and verbally agreed, "Yes."
"I know a good place." Malik said, leading the way.
He swerved through alleys and streets easily. How? He should not have any sense of an immortal, this was a mortal incarnation.
"I grew up here. In Davenport, I know the town very well."
Ravi nodded.
They found a restaurant and settled in. It was a bit like the restaurant that the three of his colleagues had visited yesterday with a middle-aged waitress and walls that were peeling.
"You ate here when you were younger?" Ravi asked when he looked up at the sign.
"Of course not. I did not have any money to eat here." Malik said as he entered the restaurant, his cane was making clunking sounds all the way.
Before the Nest opened up, the house in Harlem would not be cheap. Maybe he was just overthinking.
They took a window seat but in this kind of alley, there was nothing to see, so Ravi stopped looking, he glanced over at the menu in front of him, and he glanced over carefully, his eyes widening when he saw that they were serving makgeolli.
That was a kind of rice wine, Ravi could feel his throat going dry. He had not been drinking as often as he wanted to because of Asher but today had been really tough on him, he wanted to drink wine.
Ticking it in his mind, he looked over at Malik who had a nervous and embarrassed expression on his face.
Ravi sighed, "What is it?"
"I am embarrassed to request this."
"Just say it." rather than having this look at making him feel very uncomfortable throughout the whole meal, he can just say what is wrong.
"In the Capital, there are voice-controlled menus or I can just scan them on my phone and then..."
"You want me to read it out for you." After seeing the makgeolli, he was already so impatient and he wanted to try it out.
Malik sighed helplessly, "Officer...No, Ravi, you do not save face for people."
"You mean I should have let you make a ten-minute speech when I already know what you want." Ravi said as he began to read the menu out loud. He kept his voice low but still audible so that Malik could hear him but not others.
Malik leaned forward in interest. So he could be considerate as well.
