I Am Tired Of Being A Hero
Chapter 86: Rushing to work

Chapter 86: Rushing to work

Ouch! The slight pain woke him up. He had hit his head somewhere, a table. He was about to open his eyes when he felt a fluctuation of cosmic energy and the table was pulled away from him.

Thin hands wrapped around him trying to carry him up to the sofa and failed, then those hands tried to drag him up but failed.

There was a soft sigh and next, his head was lifted and a pillow was placed under his head.

Ravi fully awake swallowed, he was confused about how to react at this moment but he did not want to open his eyes. Him, opening his eyes would change everything.

Even though Asher was a child, he was in cat form and was very easy to take care of, but if Ravi should open his eyes to see a child, a human child.

He could not just keep him here. It was not right. He should be in school, with people more equipped to take care of him, and therapists to help him with his trauma from the villain organization. Maybe he would even be adopted into a loving, happy home. As a child, that was all he wished for.

But...Ravi’s chest felt so tight. He did not want to let go so early. How selfish?

He heard the sound of the electronic broom. The house has been clean so he had not thought of cleaning it, turns out it was not a magic fairy doing it but Asher.

Closing his eyes like this made him almost want to fall into meditation but he didn’t. After sweeping the living room, the child cleaned the kitchen and went outside.

What was he doing outside? Ravi slowly began to spread his senses when the child came back in and entered his room, causing him to let out a sigh. He had not bought any clothes for Asher, was he wearing the clothes from that day? What to do? And how would he explain it?

Why on earth was he complicating this matter?

Ravi did not have the answer to that. He got up, making sure that loud noise accompanied his every movement. Just as he thought, there was another fluctuation of energy and a soft meow from inside the room.

He was feeling much better. Last night, Ravi had been so tired that after placing Asher in his room, he had just laid down on the floor in the living room and slept off.

He took the remote and clicked on the News, everyone was talking about the fire at the Dune’s complex. Unlike the Michael Grill and Bar, the Dune’s Complex was a high-end building, and those who lived there were very wealthy, the doctors, the lawyers, and the visitors from outside town.

Ravi sat down and began to scroll through the channel, he checked some of the sports news and then finally settled on the teen fantasy show that Asher loved to watch,

He yawned again and headed outside to the farm. He filled the watering can and paused, the leaves were wet with drops of water on them.

Asher had also watered the crops.

"Meow." A cry came from behind him and he turned, watching the black and white cat slightly for a while. He bent down and patted his head, "Good morning! Good job!"

There was a light smile on his face.

"Did you enjoy your time with our neighbors yesterday?"

The cat hesitated before slowly nodding his head.

"Something happened so I might work late often this week. If I am not back, go over to their place to stay. Don’t wait for me, okay."

This time, the cat did not nod or shake his head. Ravi sighed but he did not push him. He looked at his phone.

Phone?

Yes, he could get Asher a phone after work. Should a thirteen-year-old have a phone? He picked up his phone and started to browse it with his left hand.

Parental control. The words made his chest tighten again. What’s that? Ravi’s eyes widened in the next second, really? Do children watch such things? They are so dangerous.

He bit his lips, maybe he should not buy the phone after all. A game set. He checked some articles. Subliminal messaging, violent images. This world is so dangerous. Maybe he should not buy the game after all.

But what else is fun?

How about some good games? Surely not all were so terrible. He needed to do more research. Should he take a day off from what? He recalled Arlen’s tired expression yesterday.

Probably not, he could research it in the office.

He put the phone in his pocket when he saw that his left hand was still on Asher’s head.

"Ah! Sorry!"

Why were the blue eyes looking sad now? The article had said things about temperamental teenagers. Make sense.

He lifted the cat and returned to the Veranda to pick up a basket.

"Asher. Have you had smoothies before?"

The cat in his arms, slowly shook his head.

"This is called red delight. It is quite simple." He took some strawberries from the strawberry bush and then went to the orchard for some watermelon and bananas.

Making the smoothie was very easy with the blender and soon, he placed a bowl in front of Asher.

Asher tasted it and his eyes glowed. He looked at Arlen for a brief second before going back to the bowl.

"Delicious?" He asked and Asher bobbed his head so much that Arlen was afraid it would fall. He poured some of it into a cup and drank it. A tad too sweet for him but he knew Asher would love it.

He looked at the corn in the field out of his window. They would be ready any day or two. He needed to get that grill, there was a little worry that the two grams of sugar must have sold it, but he was just too busy with Arlen, Asher, and the neighbors filling his thoughts to remember that he had to contact the gas grill person.

Ravi looked at the time and went into the pantry, he gestured Asher to come over to the counter.

"These are cup noodles. Here are some fermented vegetables, this is some pepper paste, sweet red bell pepper paste, and some sardines. Just boil water, add it to the noodles, and allow it to cook for two minutes, add these things, cover for a minute, and then eat it for lunch. Is that okay? Or would you would rather have something else."

He boiled warm water and soaked some honey beans. He placed it over the counter next to the sink, "We would have some honey bean porridge for dinner. After an hour, help me drain it okay."

Asher nodded.

Ravi wanted to put some coffee beans into the machine when he stopped. He could just buy it from the Cafe, he could buy Arlen’s as well. The Captain really liked coffee.

His cheeks colored and he looked up to see Asher’s curious gaze. Ravi touched his cheeks, "I am just thinking about work." He suddenly felt the urge to explain himself.

As it was almost three minutes to seven and he had not taken his bath or prepared for work, Ravi chose a very simple breakfast to make.

Crepes.

This was the cheapest thing after fried bean dough around his orphanage. 5 cents for one, Ravi could never forget the taste of the food. After running odd errands, he would run to the middle-aged woman and gingerly hand her his money. The crust of the crepes was thin and soft and it was filled with green onions, hams, lettuce, and whenever the woman was happy, she would add some fried egg for him.

It was hot and bursting with flavor.

Ravi smiled as he poured the floor and the cornflour into a large bowl, and added eggs, some water, and a bit of oil. No time to follow the dictates of cooking and he moved his hand, the atoms in the bowl were thoroughly combined. He made some sweet sauce and brushed it on the crepe. He spread it on the pan, moving his wrist quickly so the batter would form around the entire pan, he broke an egg over and added some ham and some green onion, he then added some lettuce leaves for a fresh taste.

He made some more quickly and served Asher before hurriedly carrying his plate up the stairs. It was delicious, just how he recalled it, a touch of childhood that had already faded to time.

He placed the plate on the nightstand, rushed into the bathroom, and rushed out. He had another one, hurriedly wore his clothes, buttoned his shirt, put on his shoes, and then he had another crepe.

He had another one as he rushed downstairs and kept the plate in the sink. He drank some more of the smoothie in his cup.

"Asher, I am off."

"Meow."

Ravi opened the gate and closed it behind him.

"Good morning, Officer." A gentle voice greeted him.
