I Am Tired Of Being A Hero
Chapter 85: Quantum Time Lock

Chapter 85: Quantum Time Lock

"Your ability is only limited by your imagination." Hunter said as he polished the gun on top of his table. He loved that gun, it had been the only thing from the first planet he was sent on a mission to.

Maybe it was not love, perhaps guilt.

"Easy for you to say." Ravi sank into the chair in front of him with a frown, "Easy for you to say. You can control minds."

Hunter placed down the gun, "That is pretty neat, isn’t it." There was a proud expression on his face to know that the bragging was pretty much intentional.

Ravi scoffed, his power was so useless. He could only heal himself. In the Sentinel Realm where different abilities flowed like rivers to a sea. It was pretty useless.

****

That was 500 years ago. Ravi did not think so right now. Hunter was very right. When it came to abilities, abilities were limited to one’s imagination.

He relaxed his body so that Arlen could have a good rest and he looked up. With a gentle sweep of his left hand, Ravi reached out with his mind, tapping into the dance of particles that surrounded him. He could feel the cosmic energy, he could feel various abilities and he could feel Arlen, the essence of him, that was very intimate and he recalled his sense from Arlen.

He could feel his own ability, the subtle vibrations of energy that only he could see, the ebb and flow of atomic motion waiting to be controlled by him.

He began to manipulate them, the quantum states of the atoms around him. It was ever so delicate, much more than destroying or creating them.

With a finesse that he had sharpened over hundreds of years, he guided them into a convergence that defied the laws of nature.

The air cracked with electricity, a tangible hum of power filling the space around him. 6 6-meter circle, nothing more, nothing less, the rest of the world outside the circle was under his control.

Ravi was careful not to spread too much. Only Davenport would do. Time itself began to slow, the seconds stretching out into eternity as the atomic movements of this space ground to a halt.

The two of them were close to each other. In a world where everything else had frozen, it was as if they were isolated from the world. Ravi looked at the fly that was frozen mid-fly, even his heartbeat seemed to fade into the background, as if drowned out by the silence of the moment.

And yet, in the stillness, there was a warm pulse of life as Arlen’s breathing evened out.

Arlen slept uncomfortably, sometimes, his nose would graze Ravi’s shoulder, and other times, he would rub his cheeks as if to find a more comfortable position.

Every movement brought a kind of sweetness that filled his heart, he could hear the strong heartbeat that reverberated on Arlen’s scent and that sweet scent of Vanilla filled his nose.

He did not move and stayed completely still. Such moments, Ravi felt like it was a good idea to indulge in them for a little longer.

One hour, two hours.

Then those long lashes fluttered and Ravi broke the quantum time lock. He looked at Arlen who yawned and lifted his head from his shoulder.

Ravi felt a sense of loss and watched him, his face subconsciously taking on a gentle smile.

Arlen looked so handsome, when he woke up from sleep, his eyes were confused and he had an expression like he just wanted to go back to bed.

So cute.

Arlen suddenly reached out for his phone and hurriedly checked the time, "Ah! Just three minutes. I feel like I have slept for hours." His entire body rested like he had the most wonderful nap.

"Is that so?"

He nodded, "I might borrow your shoulders more often."

Ravi burst out laughing, "Borrow? Am I a 10-dollar bill?"

Arlen chuckled, "How can I? I can not put a price tag on you?" He really wanted to chat more but... "Ravi, thank you. Truly. For the drink, the protein bar, the rest. I really needed it and now, I have to go to the Hospital to check up on the victim. Know how I can help. You just need some rest." He bent over to whisper, "Tomorrow, I will give you a gift to make up for today."

Ravi smiled, "Okay." He needed to go back. Quantum Time Lock for this body was not easy. He might have to trade in some qi strengtheners from Sentinel Missioners if he intends to use heavy-handed ability with this body again. He yawned, causing Arlen to chuckle.

"Don’t laugh." Whose fault was it that he was so tired? "Here. Braised Pork Rice. You can have it at the Hospital."

Arlen’s eyes widened and he instantly hugged him. Before Ravi could register the hug, the other had pulled away, he held the lunch bag in his hand, "Ravi. You are the best."

"You are the best! You are the best! You are the best!’" The words continued to echo in his head.

Fuck!

Ravi felt his hot cheeks and sighed, it was a few minutes to 10 when he started back home. He had never gone back home this late.

He reached the Girl’s school and just teleported to the Alley. If this place was bad when it was daytime, then at night, it was just eerie.

He walked quickly, almost skipping when he saw his building from afar.

’Officer!" A gentle voice called and Ravi paused. He had not felt him, he looked up to see the incarnate, Malik sitting on the fence. He was dressed in light blue cotton pajamas with strange animals drawn on them and he was holding the cat.

"That is dangerous. Mr...Malik." He had forgotten the surname this person introduced himself as.

Malik jumped down and Ravi watched with bated breath when he landed on the ground safely.

"Officer, are you worried about me or you are worried about Asher?"

Maybe because he was tired or maybe because he was drunk on happiness, hr "Can I be worried about the two of you?" If something happened to Asher, Ravi would not like it and if something happened to Malik, then Alya would show him a good time. No matter how scary human torture is, it still has nothing when compared to the torture of the Netherworld.

Besides in the Netherworld, you can not die, no matter how much you plead or beg for it.

Malik was not wearing a blindfold so Ravi saw his eyes for the first time, those green eyes were unseeing, they were like gems planted in his eyes, completely devoid of life.

"I am surprised that you are worried about me. But thank you. I appreciate it. We were waiting for you, Asher refused to sleep until you came back so we decided to come outside and wait, who knew he would sleep off?"

There was a lightness to his voice, a fondness when he spoke of Asher. Was he imagining it, probably, he was.

"He likes you. A lot." Malik continued and Ravi raised an eyebrow.

"Does he?"

"Yes. He does not want to disappoint you and he is afraid that one day you will send him away. He probably thinks he is dreaming."

Ravi frowned, there was a wrongness to this statement, Asher was a cat after all. He lifted his hand and Asher gently floated from Malik to him.

That was impulsive.

"You don’t have to be defensive. I would never hurt a child. Ever."

"A child?" Ravi felt he was sounding like a fool with each passing moment with how passive he was in this conversation. Why was he repeating everything like a parrot?

"Officer. I know he is a child. His ability should be either shapeshifting or animal transformation. I can sense his emotions. Cats are wonderful creatures but their emotions can not be as complex as human emotions. You can imagine how shocked I was to come home and feel a cat’s emotion to throw Sage into the dustbin."

Ravi could imagine it as he patted the sleeping cat’s bed, "He is a protected witness to a case. I was asked to keep him here." Ravi cooked up some lies and looked at Malik, hoping that the blind man would believe him.

"Oh! He must have a terrible past. Officer, please treat him well. We can babysit anytime you want." At this he hesitated, "You seem tired so I would not keep you waiting but there is more than I should tell you about Asher. Tomorrow morning?"

About Asher? Ravi nodded, "Then realizing that Malik could not see him, he yawned, "Tomorrow morning. Malik, you understand how important you keep his existence a secret."

"Of course. We get a lot of cases like this in my line of work."

Another person might have asked what his line of work was but Ravi was just too exhausted.

"Good night, Officer." Malik’s gentle voice sounded.

"Good night.
