I Am Tired Of Being A Hero
Chapter 84: Dune Complex Fire

Chapter 84: Dune Complex Fire

Fire always looked bigger than it really is. Even though only the penthouse apartment on the Dune Complex was burning, it looked like the entire high-end building was on fire.

There was a funnel-shaped tornado of fire rising from the roof and even though Ravi was on the ground far from the fire, the heat from the fire was sizzling enough for him to feel it.

The police did not fight fires but they provided backup. Fire attracted crowds and crowds acted stupid at times like this. From trying to take pictures to trying to help but making matters worse.

"Someone is there. I saw someone in the window." A man screamed as he grabbed Ravi’s arm. "Why are you standing here, go and help?"

What happened to your leg, Ravi wanted to say but Arlen pulled the man away, pushing him back behind the tape.

"The firefighters are on it." There was sweat on his brow, he had been directing the residents of the building to the paramedics who they got first aid care for smoke inhalation, although most of them were alright.

The fire strangely enough did not spread but concentrated on the penthouse, so other residents of the building were all right.

"He can just be seeing things. The smoke bends your perception." Arlen explained to Ravi as a way of saying that he should not take offense to him.

"I am not quick-tempered."

Arlen nodded, he tried to smile but it was a weak one, he was tired. Unlike he who had just been controlling the crowd, Arlen had been running up and down. He had already made three trips to the hospital but the last trip might have been useless, when the bodies from the penthouse were carted out, they were already charred black.

The same energy in the Grill was here, this was the work of a mutant. But that was the only thing that Ravi knew which was almost nothing.

The Captain of the Fire Brigade team was still in the sky, she was wearing those boots that Arlen had lent her. Blue liquid arched through the sky as she controlled it into a torrent.

Hiss!

The sound filled the night as the last of the fire turned into steam that billowed into the sky.

According to her, the only other mutant that can control water was transferred to Alstria, leaving just her. Davenport was badly funded in almost all sectors. If there were two people, they should be done by now.

The woman flew down, breathing heavily and paramedics soon rushed her. They grabbed her and hoisted her onto a rolling gurney.

Exhaustion. She had used her ability beyond her strength, One offered her glucose and they started to lead her to the van. Other firefighters left the building one after the other and they were all rushed by paramedics.

Ravi looked at the time, even though Millie was a mutant, it had taken over four hours to put out the fire. It was fifteen minutes after 8 pm right now.

Ravi was also too tired to think about clubbing and he looked at Arlen who had rushed over to help the paramedics. He had taken several courses while he was in the Capital.

Ravi wanted to leave but he did not. He watched Arlen, gray with soot, he still looked so beautiful in his eyes.

Ravi yawned and watched him until a more annoying image replaced the picture in front of him.

"What is it?" Lisa was with another woman from the night shift. Almost all police officers had been deployed because of how serious the fire was. The woman next to Lisa was one of the police officers in the 4 pm-8 pm shift.

Ravi pursed his lips, Not only had they worked their shift, but now they were working these people’s shifts as well.

"Ravi. This is Officer Ava Taylor. She also has healing capabilities." There was a strange glint in Lisa’s eyes as he pulled the woman. "Since everyone has been rescued, I would go and ask the Captain if we can go." She skipped away.

Ravi left him with the female officer and Ravi turned to look at her. She was much shorter than he was, with short black hair and black round eyes.

She was pretty but why did Lisa leave her here? Oh the shared ability, it was a pity that it was all a lie, he did not have any healing ability. What he controlled was atoms.

"I have not met another person with healing abilities, it is interesting. I admit that it is a great help in situations like this, don’t you think so?" she said, her voice was light and friendly.

Ravi looked at her, "You could go to the hospital."

The woman had a confused expression, "Excuse me."

Ravi let out a frustrated breath, shouldn’t his expression express the fact that he just wanted to be alone, "Those with healing abilities are much in the hospital. You could meet them there."

"Ah." She then laughed, "It seems so. An easy solution."

Ravi nodded and focused his attention on the person who he had been watching. Ava waited for a few minutes before she sighed.

"Your team Captain is so hardworking. He had been so helpful. The firefighters only had good things to say." Her voice was sincerely praising Arlen and Ravi nodded proudly.

"He is something else. He is the one who lent the shoes to Captain Millie. He has been running up and down controlling the situation. He made the news company back up." When it came to praising Arlen, Ravi had a lot to say, the officer had been listening with a smile but as minutes passed, the smile gradually became her face.

Had he been talking too much? Ravi wondered. It was just that he could not help it. When it came to Arlen, no matter where he looked, every part that he saw was very good.

"The captain said that we can go but we should do our best to come very early tomorrow morning," Lisa said, by her side was Draco who was yawning. The two of them must be very tired as they came together without arguing.

The police officer Ava pulled Lisa to her and seemed to whisper something angrily to him to which Lisa chuckled before turning to give him that look that she gave him everything.

Probably, You are insane, or one of these days I would kill you.

Probably one of the two.

Time passed and the crowd started to go back home, many of the police officers had gone back. Ravi left for a while and when he returned, he had stopped controlling the crowd. He sat at the concrete fence of a flower bush and watched Arlen.

Even though he had sent them off, he was still too busy, right now, he was talking to a woman, a small notepad in his hand. He was taking her statement. Hadn’t Draco and Sarah been on that job?

It took more than 40 minutes before Arlen walked to the seat in front of the phone booth and slumped down.

He must be so exhausted. Why does he work so hard?

"Captain." Ravi said as he settled in the seat next to him.

Arlen lifted his heavy eyes to look at Ravi, his entire body shook with pain, every cell stinging. He was so tired but he still had the strength to show a shocked expression, "You stayed. I don’t have the money for all your overtime." He muttered.

He stayed because of him but Ravi would not say that.

"Here. Coconut water. I got it at the grocery store down the street. I got you a protein bar as well."

Arlen shakily took the can, glad it was already popped open, and drank down the slightly sweet drink, he felt a little energy returning to him and his eyes caught the sight of Ravi.

No single hair was out of place, and hazel eyes were so calm and indifferent in the chaos around them. It was a little scary but this person had waited to give him a drink and a bar to replenish his strength, just like he waited that day to give him a piratical drink and awkwardly console him.

This person was very kind to him. He had another bad habit, if you gave him an inch, he would take a mile.

"Ravi."

Ravi wanted to drop the microwaved braised pork rice and go back to his bed. He was feeling sleepy. His name was called and he looked to the left.

"Captain?" Why did he call his name like that again? Ravi swallowed and looked up, the night was dark as if a perfect blanket for the sins that were creeping up into his heart.

"I am very tired." Arlen said, his voice hoarse.

Ravi nodded and hummed a bit. Clearly, since he decided to be a saint and rescue everyone without any concern for him.

"Can I...I lean on you a bit." There was an uncertainty in his voice that was so uncharacteristic of Arlen.

Ravi did not respond at first. He moved closer and then used his hand to wrap around Arlen’s neck. He pulled the head gently down on his shoulders.

"En."
