I Am Tired Of Being A Hero
Chapter 83: The verdict

Chapter 83: The verdict

"I am so full." Lisa said as she drank her malt. The three of them walked down the street where they drove their car. Sarah was carrying a small takeaway of food that she had so she could take home to her daughter.

"Their food was really delicious." Sarah said, her voice much lighter than it had been in the morning.

Lisa smiled proudly, "I have been eating there since I was little. Although I have not gone there in a while. Ravi, why did you park so far away?"

"That was your idea." Ravi said it was a few minutes past 3 p.m. They should be heading back to the police station. He had not actually thought this through. His shift would be over at 4 pm and the club would open at 8 p.m. What should he do within the four hours?

He also needs to change. Should he go to the mall? What do people wear to the club nowadays, a simple shirt and trousers would not do, right?

He took out his phone to check when it beeped. He had received a message.

Ravi’s eyes widened when he saw the sender. He rubbed his hand on his clothes before opening the message.

It was a picture of the salad that he had ordered to have with his braised pork rice.

"A delivery came for you, Ravi. Looks delicious."

Ravi looked at the words, reading them carefully before he replied, "You can have it." His brows furrowed.

He was not as upset as he was before but still...

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Why do I feel like you hope these vegetables will choke me?"

"I never said anything like that." He would never wish for something like that.

"But you are angry with me. Tell me what I did?"

Ravi looked at those words feeling more angry than how embarrassing it would be for him to say what the other person did.

"I am not angry."

"Ravi..." The other party sent an emoji of a puppy with large, round, and wet eyes.

Ravi huffed, and his lips twitched, what kind of childishness was this? He smiled.

"I am not angry." He was not angry anymore. "Did you find anything when you went to the Brigade?"

"Yes. This is now being investigated as an arson. I am waiting for you guys to come back so that we can have a meeting before our shift ends. Tomorrow, we will begin investigating those who are in relation to Michael Grills and Bars. How was the interrogation with the kids?"

Ravi can imagine it, his eyes focused on the screen as he typed. It was just when he was talking to you, even when he was on the phone or texting, all of Arlen’s attention was completely focused on what he was doing.

"What are you smiling about?" Lisa asked, trying to peer over his phone.

Ravi invaded her without any effort and slipped the phone into his pocket.

"So suspicious. What are you hiding? Oh my! Ravi, did you get a girlfriend?"

Sarah, who had been calm, raised her eyebrow with confidence.

Lisa was already in a spiral, "Oh my! That would make a lot of sense. Why did he cut his bangs, shave and I don’t know start glowing? Now he is giggling over his phone."

"I was not giggling." He said calmly and looked at her with an expression that had scared Lisa the first time they had met. That grumpy and indifferent look like the person in front of him does not exist and he could not wait to be anywhere else.

But Lisa had used two years to get used to it.

"Not a girlfriend. A boyfriend?"

Ravi’s heart pounded. It was not it. Definitely not a boyfriend.

He quickly slashed the word from his mind but traces remained, clinging to the edges of his subconsciousness.

"Lisa, are you bored?" He asked lazily as he opened the car door and entered inside.

Sarah laughed and Lisa could only retort with a hey.

A boyfriend? Ravi forced himself not to think of that word at all.

He drove steadily back to the police station. Within twenty minutes, they were back to the police Bureau.

The three of them entered inside and Sarah gave a verbal report on how the interrogation went before playing the tape. Since they were in school, they could not have a video recording but an audio recording was allowed.

"They did not see anything. We would have to confirm their alibis. Officer Johnson, you should do that tomorrow morning before coming in."

"Aye, Captain. What was the news from the Fire Brigade?"

Draco’s expression instantly contorted, and even though Arlen’s expression was much lighter, Ravi could tell that he was not happy one bit.

It was an Arson case.

"According to the Fire Forensic Officer, based on the distribution of the accelerants and the residue analysis, the fire was intentionally set."

Ravi furrowed his brows, Accelerant, there was a faint energy in the ruins, the fire had been set by a mutant.

"The irregularity in the burn marks suggests multiple points of origin, indicative of arson." Draco concluded.

"Accelerants? What kind?" Ravi asked.

Arlen looked at him and explained, "The preliminary tests showed traces of kerosene and gasoline. The officer said that given the extent of the damage and the strategic placement of the accelerant, it is plausible that this was a targeted act rather than a random act of arson. I and Officer West would go back and interview the victim and her wife."

It was a serious case but Ravi felt happy. A thread of happiness coiled around his heart causing him to lower his head.

"Officer Adams and Officer Brown would take charge of investigating the Estate company. I have called them, you should meet the Acquisition Officer by 9 am Don’t be late. Sergeant Tom, you would be in charge of.."

Ring! Ring! Ring!

Various phones went off at the same time, causing Arlen to pause in his sentence. Lisa was nearest to one of the phones and she picked it up.

"Davenport Police Bureau. How can we help you?"

Her face paled and she looked at the Captain, "There has been a fire at the Dune Complex."
