I Am Tired Of Being A Hero -
Chapter 141: Spellbond
Chapter 141: Spellbond
"Ravi!" Asher waved one more time before he entered the library. Lana looked at him and raised her finger to indicate that one more meal was remaining before entering after Asher.
Ravi’s lips twitched when he looked at the two of them entering the library. He just hoped that with the way that Lana was looking at the food street, she would not drag Ashr back there the moment that he turned his back.
Taking out his phone to check the time, Ravi also mentally noted that it was around time to get Asher a phone.
When was his birthday? He should ask him that in the evening when they get home.
As he walked past the central area, the area became much noisier. He began to hear some chants and noises from ahead.
He paused in his footsteps, what on earth happened? They had just finished a high-intensity case, he did not want one anytime soon.
He continued walking down until he met a small crowd just a stone’s throw from the police station. They were chanting and carrying placards.
"Davenport rejects Eclipse"
"Eclipse stop animal cruelty."
"Eclipse is not welcome here!"
"Justice for Animals."
A girl was standing on a small hurriedly crafted stage, giving a speech. She looked young, like she was in her late teens or her early twenties. She wore a light pink sundress and white sneakers, she was beautiful with striking features that attracted all attention.
Ravi glanced at her and looked away, "Excuse me!" He said to the two people that were blocking his way, he had no intention to go around this entire crowd.
"Oh! Officer. What do you think of Eclipse’s declaration that they would open a branch in Davenport?" As one of the boys asked him the question, the girl by his side held the camera.
Ravi’s eyes were as cold as ice as he looked at the two of them, "Excuse me." However, the thing with young people was that not only did they refuse to listen, they were as fearless as tiger cubs in the jungle.
The young man grinned and continued, "Are you aware of the Animal cruelty allegations that were brought up against Eclipse? What do you think of the pictures of those poor chickens being packed like sardines in the cage? How about the local fast food business?"
"I don’t..."
"The Bureau has no comment."
The scent reached him first, Vanilla with the faintest hint of amber then his voice, that warm voice that made the faces of the two people in front of him turn red immediately.
Ravi bit his lips, the way he attracted all kinds of bees and butterflies can be really annoying but then again, did he have the right to say such things, considering that he is one of the bees and butterflies?
Arlen wrapped his hand around his shoulder and gently pulled him away from the crowd, going round to the Police Bureau.
’Thanks. I could have handled it." He said, not moving away from the hand around his shoulder.
Arlen chuckled, "If you did and your reply goes online. The Chief might faint."
Ravi’s lips twitched, "It would not be that bad."
"I believe you."
Ravi chuckled and looked to the right, "What are you carrying? Is that..." He took a deep breath, "Doughnuts."
"En. The Chief gave me some bonus for the team."
"And this is what you arrive at, Doughnuts?"
Arlen took away the arm around him and Ravi mourned the loss briefly.
The one moved to stand in front of him, blocking his way, "It is among the greatest pastries of all time. Why on earth don’t you love them?"
"I never said I don’t."
"It is in your face, Your eyes. I can see it."
Ravi chuckled and Arlen smiled.
Then he asked in a lowered voice "Do you think it is a bad choice? I can go get pizza. He gave me 100 dollars."
"100 dollars? That is so small."
Arlen nodded seriously. It was so small.
"They would not care though, Lisa and Draco would enjoy it extremely well, as you would too, let me guess, you brought some with strawberry jam."
The tips of Arlen’s ears turned red and he coughed.
"That’s all I bought."
Ravi looked at the takeaway bag, there were three boxes of doughnuts there. Three boxes of doughnuts with strawberry jam filling.
He looked away, intentionally moving away from Arlen as he began to walk faster and faster.
"Ravi, wait a minute. Are you abandoning me?"
"Please, I don’t know you," Ravi said walking faster to the Bureau.
Arlen jogged forward and pulled him close to him into a half hug. He lowered his head and looked into Ravi’s eyes. Those gray eyes with flecks of gold that were as bright as the Sun.
He suddenly noticed that Ravi had styled his head differently today, the loose curled bangs falling over his forehead and accentuating the delicate features making him even more beautiful. For someone who had always claimed that appearance never mattered to him, Arlen found himself being enchanted.
He licked his lips, his gaze momentarily unfocused.
Completely mesmerized by someone’s appearance.
There was a flame growing in his chest the more he looked at Ravi. In that instant, a subconscious thought emerged in his mind- keep him.
"Arlen! Arlen!"
Arlen blinked and looked at him, he felt confused, like for a minute he had not been here.
"You can release me now. I would accompany you to change the doughnuts."
Arlen did not want to talk about the doughnuts but he was not sure what he wanted to talk about, it was like there was a mist in front of him.
"I also want soymilk."
"Captain, we have work that starts in 5 minutes."
Arlen smiled, and reached out to hold Ravi’s hand, "Do you remember yesterday when I asked you if I could come over and you said, No. Do you know how hurt I was, I did not even sleep last night. So can I get some soymilk, where is the best place you know?" He blinked, looking pitiful and Ravi sighed.
"A stall next to Mama Joe’s grocery store." Ravi said helplessly.s
He did not know what to say about a 28-year-old man who played tricks like this or him, who always fell for the tricks even though he knew it was one.
