I Am Tired Of Being A Hero
Chapter 140: Monday morning

Chapter 140: Monday morning

Compared to the kind of beasts that he had seen in his mission, the lion, monkeys, and their friends are extremely weak. But he guessed they could start weak.

"Ravi, are you sure I can transform into all these animals?" Asher asked, a little puzzled and doubtful.

"Of course."

There was no hesitation in Ravi’s voice.

"This is just lesson one. You can do it. I believe in you, Ash. You can become a large alligator and prank Sage, wouldn’t you like that?"

His ward stared at him blankly, "Don’t you think Sage would shred me apart without giving me a chance to explain?

****

Ravi never expected that rather than Sage, he would be the one who would be pranked. That Monday morning, he woke a little later than usual, he rolled on his bed and yawned, hesitating to open his eyes.

Could he take another sick day?

He felt a cool body touch his skin, little by little, slowly coiling around his body before it coiled around his arm and then stayed still, very still.

Ravi opened his eyes to see the enlarged head of a large black cobra looking down at him, it flicked its tongue, revealing a pair of razor-sharp fangs that gleamed with deadly precision.

"You are lucky that I did not attack you instinctively." He yawned, sitting up as he patted the snake. The scales were smooth to the touch with a strange kind of texture.

The snake hissed one more time before slithering down, exactly 78 seconds later, a teenage boy was standing next to his bed.

Ravi yawned, "You know there is no price for waking up early." Why was the weekend so short, he did not even blink and Monday had already some waltzing in, the perfect uninvited guest.

Asher chuckled before he pouted, "You were not even the least scared, why? Was I not scary enough?"

Ravi was still sleeping, he blinked and absentmindedly replied, "Oh! You were cute."

"Cute? I was a cobra. A venomous cobra. I am not cute, I was scary, very scary."

Ravi yawned, struggling to sit up, "Okay, you were scary. See my hands are still shaking." He had once had a mission in a world where everyone had a beast form. This cobra might be a one-day-old snake in that world considering the size but esteem is really good for little children so he nodded his head obediently. Scary, scary, not cute at all.

After struggling to sit down, Ravi yawned and lay back down, "Ash. Wake me up in thirty minutes."

Ash shook his hand, not allowing him to sleep, "Ravi. Ravi wakes up. It is 7 am, didn’t you say that they would fine you if you were late."

Ravi just grumbled. It was fine. He still had some money from the jewel that he sold to buy stuff for Ash.

Three minutes later, Asher had not yet given up shaking him awake, "Ravi, if you go on time, then you would spend more time with the Captain before others come."

Ravi’s eyes instantly opened and he sat up.

"Well, I am on the government payroll, it is good to take your work seriously."

He ignored the pointed look Asher was giving him, "Go. Disappear."

Asher chuckled and left his bedroom. Ravi dragged himself to the bathroom to get ready for the day.

Yesterday, he and Arlen had chatted for hours and hours and he could not wait to see him.

Do they need to wear these boring clothes day in, day out? Can’t the place have more varieties? It was funny that he even had this thought, concerning that his wardrobe was even more boring than the police uniform.

He jogged downstairs, carrying his jacket with him. Asher had also freshened up and he had his new schoolbag in the living room. He really looked like a younger Malik in the light blue shirt and beige crew neck sweater.

If Ravi had not been the one to take him shopping, he would have doubted that the teenager had any kind of t-shirts or polo or other casual tops.

"There is no time to cook anything, let’s go. We would eat outside today. I know a good place."

Asher nodded and carefully carried his bag, following after Ravi, he was a little reluctant to leave the house and he continued to look back.

When he turned front, he saw an outstretched hand and he smiled, he ran up and held Ravi. They walked across the Street and Ravi raised his hand and knocked on the gate.

"Coming." It was Lana and she opened the door. Her hair was back in a bun with two strands framing her face. She looked...pretty.

She wore a black midi skirt with a light-coloured blouse with bell sleeves, her boots almost reached her knees and she also carried a school bag.

"Malik told me you guys would be early but I did not know it would be this early." She looked at Asher, "Did you notice my clothes? I can easily blend it. What do you think?"

Asher looked helplessly at Ravi who covered his mouth with his hand, he looked back at Lana, "I would give you your grade at the end."

"Fair. So, where are we going?"

They continued down the street. Ravi searched in his pocket and took out a card, "First we would have breakfast and then I would head to work. You and Asher would head to the library. If I can, I would come around during lunch, if not then the two of you can do whatever you want after the library. Just return home when you are tired."

"Oh! Is there any fun place in Davenport?"

Ravi looked at the cold face that looked like it did not know exactly how to define fun, "I am not sure. I would ask around. Here is my number. Oh! There is a Dolphin...I don’t know what exactly but there are dolphins, I saw on the local news, you can ask around."

When they reached the corner of the alley. Ravi felt Asher visibly tensed up but surprisingly Lana also noticed it.

She looked down at the teenager who was much cuter than her family Sage, "I am here. Do not be afraid."

"I am not scared." Asher hurriedly said as he looked ahead. It was this place where that dream catcher had found him. He looked up at Ravi, "I am not scared."

Ravi smiled, "Good. Because you are already stronger than you were yesterday and tomorrow, you will be stronger than you are today."

Asher nodded and Ravi held his shoulder, "Excuse me." He said to Lana and held hers. The three of them vanished, reconstructing next to the old girl’s school.

The moment their body atoms reconstructed in mere nanoseconds, Lana moved away, "You...how did you do that?"

"Oh!" He forgot that his neighbors did not know about his ability, he had gotten so used to using it in front of Asher that he did not even think. He needed to be more careful, imagine if he used it in front of Arlen. What would he do? Arrest him.

An image flashed in his mind, Arlen with handcuffs pinning him to...

No! It is too early for this madness.

Lana who had been shocked initially had already calmed down, for people like her, registering a false ability to the government archives was nothing serious. She just filed it away and started looking around.

"You said, we were going to have breakfast, where?"

Asher also looked around before tugging at Ravi, "Is it that restaurant we went to last month?"

"We could go there, their food is nice, right?"

The teenager nodded and the three of them headed there. They were not the talking sorts so there was a comfortable silence as they reached the restaurant and ordered food.

Lana looked like she was about to order just everything on the breakfast menu but a look from Asher made her order the same duck porridge as the two of them.

The duck meat porridge was clear and the rice grains were round and full. She collected a scoop of the porridge and tasted it. The mellow and delicious duck soup and the sweet rice were perfectly mixed.

It was simply delicious and she looked at Ravi with a shocked expression on her face. She could not believe how tasty the food was, the rice carried the fragrant taste of the duck soup and the strands of duck meat were tender and light.

The spice was barely there and the warmth and sweetness lingered in her mind for a while. When she finished her bowl, she looked and the two of them were still eating slowly.

Lana rolled her eyes, if one ate so slowly like this at home, you would not know when either Sage or the delicate and blind Malik would snatch the food before you were done eating.

She tapped her finger and looked at the menu, "Madame, I would like one cup of hot soy milk please."

Two pairs of eyes moved towards her, "Oh! Three cups of soy milk."
