I Am Tired Of Being A Hero -
Chapter 131: Found You!
Chapter 131: Found You!
Every day felt like a dream to him. Asher said good night to Ravi, after they finished playing a game of cards.
Ravi won every time. He did not take it easy with him and it made Arlen smile. He could not wait for tomorrow, he would definitely win the game. Or at least he needed to win in Scrabble.
Asher had finished taking his bath and was sitting on his study chair in his pajamas. There was a large dictionary in front of him as he attempted to learn ten words before he got to bed.
He wrote the words carefully down on his jotter, smiling as he looked at his handwriting. He had paid 20 dollars to Sage to teach him to improve his handwriting and to teach him some subjects.
Sage said the money was too small but he would do it and in return, he would owe him a favor.
It was not smart to make such a deal. Asher knew he had grown up in the Infernal Covenant and he knew it was foolhardy to make such a deal but he really wanted to impress Ravi.
He would do anything. Anything so that he would not hate him.
Pushing the dictionary aside, Asher opened the laptop and zoomed in on the files, the way Ravi had taught him.
There were two schools in front of him. Bayside Academy was a private school located in the border area between Alstria and Davenport. A private school. Asher swallowed, he had once gone there so that he could help the organization kidnap a student from the school. He had spent weeks pretending to be her friend.
Ravi lowered his head, shame filling his stomach as he looked away from the laptop. Rvi might want him now, he might...like him now but when he finds out what he has done. Everything he had done, he would not like him anymore.
He scratched his neck, he still felt like there was a noose around his neck, and one day, one day the noose would be gone and he could not do anything about it. Everything would be gone.
It was okay before but now, after having Ravi, Sage, and everything here. Good food, clothes, and even a room, a room all to himself, he did not want to leave.
It was selfish, he knew but he did not want to let go of it.
"It would be alright. It would be okay. If you don’t see it, it does not exist." Asher said, forcing down the emotions as he looked at the laptop with tightly pursed lips.
The second school was Davenport Prep, it was not so far from where they went shopping. Asher had seen the high school with its light blue and white walls that were high enough to look like a prison.
He bit his lips, Ravi said he could take the time to think about it.
He did not want to go to any school, he did not know how to get along with his classmates at all. He stared at the screen blankly for more than thirty minutes before he went to bed.
He will think about it tomorrow. A small smile played on his lips as he wrapped himself in the warm blankets. Tomorrow, the oranges would be ripe, tomorrow, they would make a cake, maybe an orange cake. He could not wait for tomorrow.
He closed his eyes and drifted to sleep.
***
When he woke up, he was on the streets. Asher woke up, he looked left and right, and he could recognize the street, it was the street of the alley where Ravi looked to teleport the most. He grinned, wanting to run back home but he paused.
Someone was watching him. Watching what he would do next.
Asher swallowed and turned the other way and ran blindly into another alley but he could not see, he could not see the way, it was like the alley had turned to a jet black smug clinging everywhere on the road. The slog spread down the road making it impossible for him to run anymore.
The only way forward is home. The way to go is home.
Asher stood lost in the middle of the road when he heard footsteps.
The footsteps sent a chill of fear bursting from his tailbone and rushing upward to his heart. The feat seeped through every one of his pores.
He blinked, as he stood in place. Countless ghosts were crawling towards him from all directions.
Where was he running to? Who can save him?
Ravi. Not Ravi. He did not want to bring these monsters home to Ravi. The police station, that strong Captain. He turned and fled in another direction desperately.
The footsteps appeared right next to where he was standing, it was a young girl a few years older than him. She saw his escaping figure in a slight trance and she revealed a smile.
"Don’t run too fast. I can’t catch up."
Asher ran without stopping, unable to stop panting. He leaned against the wall with great force, not daring to make a single sound to attract attention his way. It was so cold, like his chest was being cracked into shards.
The sounds of footsteps gradually approached him, it seemed like they were stepping on every beat of his heart.
He felt exhausted but he still picked up speed before he stopped in front of the Old girls’ school. The huge signboard, Pious Girls Academy, Davenport was in front of him.
The police station should be near here. It should be near here.
Just then, an iced cold hand grabs his hand that is dangling by his side. The cold touch penetrated the marrows of the bones, causing him to shiver uncontrollably.
He could not see the person but he could perceive the scent of lilies, the person chuckled, "Pious Girls Academy, Davenport."
The ice-cold breath moved closer to his ear, stirring small chills along his skin, "Found you, Tally."
Asher instantly sat up on his bed, a scream tearing from his lips.
