I Am Tired Of Being A Hero -
Chapter 121: The Madness in Malik’s eyes
Chapter 121: The Madness in Malik’s eyes
"I am blind." Malik said as he looked down at the two baskets in front of him, unsure how he had been roped into preparing the corn.
"I don’t care." Ravi said as he stole a glance at the grill which Arlen had almost finished setting. He had watched Arlen since he came out of the house and was dragged over to the grill by Sage.
He could not help it.
The other party had done a backtrack when he saw the grill and he looked at Ravi who pretended to be focused on the corn in front of him.
Arlen had chuckled. What was funny? He wanted to know but he could not just go over there when he had work to do.
Since he was upset and he could not pour his anger on Sage who had been the one to separate them, he could only transfer that anger to Malik. Making sure that the corn was within his reach, he got to work.
Malik sighed helplessly, looked at Ravi and then looked at Asher who promptly lowered his head making his chuckle.
"Alright. I would do my best, I know you can’t wait to go and speak to your Captain."
Ravi’s cheeks turned red and his voice was very quiet, "We just finished a case. I wanted to talk to him about it. The case that is." He expected removed the silk thread from the ears of the corn.
Their jobs were divided. Malik would pull back the husks from the corn and pass it to Ravi who would pull the silver thread and pass it to Asher. Asher’s job was to rinse over the cold running water from the outside tap and pat down with a paper towel before spreading it on the tray.
There were five people here so Ravi had taken out fifteen. It might be too much but left overs are always welcome.
"I am done." Arlen announced and started coming over.
Asher wiped his head back, "We need to preheat the grill. I will show you how." He hurried over causing Ravi to raise an eyebrow.
"You know he is deliberately separating you guys." Malik said quietly as he passed the last corn to Ravi.
Ravi remembered their conversation, "He is probably a little scared of him."
"Scared? Maybe but it is not of Arlen. It is you."
Ravi frowned, "he is not scared of me. He knows I would not hurt him."
"Not that. He is scared of you that likes Arlen."
"I,..I ...not...do not." Ravi spluttered, his heart pounding as he looked at Arlen who was completely focused on what the two teenagers were telling him.
Malik rolled his eyes, "I am blind and yet I can tell. Why are you angry that you are not hiding it well?"
"I am hiding it well."
"Sure."
"I am serious. He can never know."
"Why?" Malik cocked his head.
Ravi sighed, he was not entirely sure why, is it because they were too different, because he had a lot of secrets that he could not tell, because he was afraid or because he did not want to lose what he had. He was not sure, "He just can’t know." After the words, he lowered his head, "But we are not talking about Arlen, why would he be worried about that?"
"Because you might abandon him."
"I won’t."
"He does not know that. He just knows that this new variable might spoil what the two of you have so he is trying to separate you the only way he knows. I would bet my corn that he very strongly dislikes Arlen."
Ravi’s lips pursued, "So, I should stop inviting Arlen over?"
Malik gave him a look like he is foolish, it surprised Ravi to see such an expression on his face, "Why would you do that? It is like using a band-aid to stop a rushing tap. You need to reassure him, he might have abandonment issues and if Arlen is not going to be a constant, there is no need to introduce him into Asher’s life. So, would Arlen be a constant?"
Ravi nodded seriously, "I would always like Arlen, Malik. You don’t understand, I can not like anybody else. I would only like him." His heart was not big, he did not have many friends and as for lovers, he had only liked one person for five hundred years and yet it was still different, his love for Arlen was different.
It was just different.
"I understand." Malik said with a nod.
Ravi looked at Malik, his eyes widened.
So those empty green jewel eyes can show emotions, such soft emotions like running water but the more he looked in those eyes, he felt a cold chill run through his spine. Madness, Obsession.
This person might just be a total lunatic when it comes to love.
"My love for Arlen is different from yours." Ravi said, feeling the need to state it.
"I know. The person I love is unfortunate. I feel a little sad but I can’t help but from the moment I saw him, I knew he was mine. Mine to do with as I wish. It was like my soul had found something that it was looking for. It was...most odd." He spoke softly, with a mellow voice yet there was a deep sense of a daunting oppression. There was a smile on his lips, it did not have the normal gentleness that Ravi was used to seeing and yet it looked so genuine.
This was Malik’s true self and yet he did not feel any fear.
"That is truly odd. And it sounds like you need a little therapy yourself. Not a little therapy, maybe a big one..." He stopped his words and his mind analyzed what Malik had said. His soul. This person be the reason the incarnation was here?
But Malik’s immortal self was a First of the Ten Kings, how can a soul escape his grasp? Was that possible?
The soul. His lover? He has never heard about King Yama having any lover? Maybe he was just thinking too much into it.
"I know. I went to a psychiatric doctor after I met him but nothing helped. That aside, let’s talk about Asher. Since Arlen is a constant, you have to let time do its work. Reassure him, spend quality time with him, with school and therapy, he would be alright. As for now..."
