I Am Tired Of Being A Hero -
Chapter 120: Pre-barbecue
Chapter 120: Pre-barbecue
"That is not how to set it up?" Ravi said.
"It is how it is in the manual." Sage said, looking at the manual. He had rushed over to help him install the gas grill in the backyard. The ice cream was just three dollars, did it really warrant this kind of attentiveness?
"Just let him do it." Malik said relaxing on his chair. When he had come over, a frown graced Ravi’s face almost immediately.
He had a plan. Arlen, Asher, and Him having a nice barbecue. As for these two people he had no intention of inviting them.
I have no chairs for visitors had been his first excuse but Malik had come carrying one chair. And as for Sage, seeing Asher next to him, helping him grab this and that, he sighed.
Just fine.
"You would leave after the meal." He said, sitting down next to Malik.
Malik smiled. He crept into the other’s mind, the fortress of earlier was nowhere to be seen, and there was only a small hut at the shore. He made clapping sounds and physically watched as Ravi frowned, his brows twitching.
The hut sank down and he was thrown out.
"Are you an addict?" Ravi said, leaning back on the chair. He did not even bother to look at the other person.
"You know other people would be so much angrier. The thought of someone invading their mind is hard to bear."
"You did not invade anything. Just crept around." Ravi asked, why would he be angry about something that could not happen.
Malik smiled, he had not felt this challenged in such a long time, "Crept around. My feelings are a little hurt, Ravi." He leaned back on the chair. "It is interesting. Some people have mental blocks but it is usually two things, a wall or a fog. I have never met anyone like you who can control his mind so easily. How do you do it?"
Perhaps when Malik would reunite with his true body, he would feel foolish for asking this question. Controlling your mind is something all immortals perfected while they were still cultivators in the mortal realm.
"It is a secret."
"A secret?"
"Yes. A secret."
"You have a lot of them." Malik said.
"You do too."
They did not talk about it again and just relaxed. Malik asked about the case and Ravi told him as much as he could remember. They talked lightly and when they crossed the topic of Asher, Ravi shook his head.
"I will tell you later."
"Oh! Okay."
There was a knock on the gate and Ravi’s heart skipped. He turned to Malik and reminded him.
"Remember that you would leave after eating."
The blind man’s eyes were closed and he lay down still on the chair, looking like a perfect sculpture.
"This is the third time you are telling me this. Is it possible that you plan to do something improper tonight to your Captain? He is the one at the gate, isn’t he?
Ravi first blushed, his heart pounded faster due to embarrassment before Ravi’s eyes grew cold and he stood up and moved closer to Malik, bending over to whisper to him.
"His mind is off limits. His and Asher. You understand."
Malik turned his head as if he wanted to look at him, "but not yours. That says a lot about your psychological state. Don’t you think so?"
"Malik?"
"You have to give me something in return. I don’t do deals for free."
There was another knock and the gate opened, the creaking sounds attracting everyone’s attention, Ravi leaned away from Malik and walked towards the gate.
"Arlen!"
The other way wearing a black coat over a shirt and faded blue jeans, he carried a black bag. So simple and yet he looked so good. So damn good.
Ravi lost himself in those blue oceans of Arlen; ’s eyes and he stared at them for what felt like forever. His eyes moved down to those oink smiling lips and his entire body suddenly throbbed with the desire to lean in, he wished so much to close the gap between them. To taste him, how would this person taste, it would most definitely be sweet.
I like you. I like you. I like you. His mind screamed with the words, he was not prepared for the intensity that would flood his chest when he saw him again,
"Ravi." Arlen said, smiling at him. Looking at him, the way his gaze sized him in and took all of him. "Ah! I missed you."
Ravi wallowed and instantly stepped back, "I have visitors." He said suddenly then realizing his words were weird, "I mean I want you to meet my neighbors. A do-over."
Arlen looked around and saw the person who was leaning on the chair sit up and his jaw clenched for a few seconds before he forced himself to relax.
"Professor Patel. Thank you for your help in this case. Without your guidance, the case would not have been solved so quickly."
Malik shook his head, his tone was gentle, "I just happened to help a little. No need for thanks. I told you to address me informally, Captain Sinclair."
"Okay. Then I would not stand in the ceremony with you, Malik."
"This is Sage, my ward."
"Nice to meet you."
Sage looked up and suddenly smiled sweetly, "Nice to meet you, big brother."
Asher, who was by his side, suddenly chuckled, causing Asher to look at him, "And how are you settling in, Asher?"
Asher pursed his lips and looked at Ravi who was next to Arlen’s side, "Good." He mumbled.
"Come in. I would show you where to hang your clothes."
"I would do that." Sage said, while looking at Asher.
Asher turned to Ravi, "Ravi, we still have to prepare the corn and the fish. Sage and the Captain can set up the grill."
Ravi felt suspicious, because he could hear Malik’s muffled laughter, he looked longingly at Arlen who was going away with Sage, he wanted to chat with him a little in the living room.
"Okay."
