I Am Tired Of Being A Hero -
Chapter 119: Don’t trust Arlen
Chapter 119: Don’t trust Arlen
Both Sage and Asher whispered to each other as they walked in front of him. They were closer than Ravi had expected, after Sage had refused to follow him, he did not know what Asher had whispered to Sage’s ears that made the others reluctantly follow them.
Teenagers.
They were both holding large cones of ice cream. Sage had gotten a mud pie mojo, which was coffee ice cream with fudge, peanut butter, roasted almonds, and Oreos and Asher had gotten vanilla caramel, cashew, and almond ice cream.
Seeing them mix the three had made Ravi close his eyes for a few seconds before he opened. He did not get ice cream but he had gotten two tubs of vanilla and chocolate ice cream to keep in the fridge.
They went down the alley and stopped in front of their house.
"Thank you, Ravi. I would pay you back the money."
"I would not accept it so don’t bother."
Sage pressed his lips together before his eyes shone for a few seconds. He looked in the direction of his garden and grinned.
"Don’t bury it in my garden either."
There was a low chuckle from the other side of the gate and Malik pushed the gate and passed through.
"Ravi."
"Malik. Transfer the money first and I will give you the items." Ravi said, nodding to Asher who gave his ice cream to Sage to hold, and started to bring out the loaf of bread, like a store attendant he put them all in a bag.
"Here. On the street?" He questioned, the shock written all over the calm, beautiful face.
"Do you want us to go to a bank?" Ravi asked.
Sage turned to look at Malik, not sure if he had ever seen that expression on his guardian’s face before and he laughed loudly.
Malik sighed, "I recall something about helping someone help someone else." He drew his words and Ravi could swear that if the jewel-like eyes had a hint of emotion, they would be laughing right now.
His entire body stilled and the fakest smile he could imagine appeared on his face, "What is a little shopping for neighbors?"
Malik chuckled, "And the Ice cream?"
Ravi’s eyes narrowed instantly and he deflected his question with one of his own, "Where is Lana? I have not seen her for a while now."
"She locked herself in the basement, she might be dead. We don’t know." Sage called for the side, enjoying his ice cream.
Malik let out an exasperated sigh, "She is researching so she asked not to be disturbed."
Ravi raised an eyebrow, "Which last did you see her?"
"Last week." Malik replied, "She has some plants down there, she is not dead."
Ravi looked at the two of them quietly and then Ravi turned to Asher, "Let us go." Who knows, if he should stay a moment more, their madness would infect Asher.
"Should I bring the gas grill over later?"
Ravi looked up, it was a few minutes after five o’clock. Arlen was coming over, it was a good idea for dinner, he had gotten some fresh fish as well.
"Yes. Bring it. Thanks." With that, they entered the house and Ravi and Asher began to arrange everything that they bought.
Ravi entered the living room, Asher was sitting cross-legged on the sofa and eating his ice cream so slowly like he did not wish for it to visit.
"There is a tub in the freezer. You can have it after your meals."
"It is different. This is my first ice cream." He said quietly.
Ravi understood. It was like his first jar of wine, it was different, and it was special.
He frowned as he looked left and right before looking at Asher, "Where is the mop, it is not in the veranda."
"I cleaned the house yesterday." Asher said as he took the room and switched on the television.
Oh! Ravi was still nervous and felt like walking up and down.
Look forward to tonight. He lay on the sofa and used a pillow to cover his eyes.
"Do you want some tea?" Asher asked.
"We have tea? Yes, I bought tea. Do you want to have iced tea?"
Asher shook his head, a soft smile on his lips.
"Ravi, you are alright?"
Ravi removed the pillow he used to cover the eyes and looked at Asher who was watching him with worry.
’His heart felt warm. He wanted to paint Asher right now. His fingers twitched and he smiled.
"I am fine. Arlen is coming over so I am a little nervous." He said.
"Are you afraid of him?"
Ravi reared back, Afraid? Of Arlen? "No." He said his tone was final but then he looked at Asher who had returned to the black and white hair with cornflower blue eyes.
"Are you afraid of him?"
"He is a police officer." Asher said, pulling his legs up and repeating his head on it.
"Hey. I am a police officer too."
"You are different, Ravi. I have never met someone like you before. You won’t hurt me."
Ravi went over to sit on the arm of the sofa where Asher was sitting, "Yes. I would never hurt you but Arlen would not hurt you either. I have lived a long life and his eyes are the kindest I have ever seen."
Asher did not talk. His expression dripped and his gaze was sullen, "But what if he does?" He turned to look at Ravi, "You can’t trust anyone, Ravi. They would hurt you and you would never see it coming. You can’t trust anyone, Ravi."
Ravi did not know what to say or how to console Asher. He wanted to tell him that he could trust people but for someone who had been hurt so truly by others, his words were just words.
Words.
He patted his head, "Asher. We will talk about this later. I don’t know what to say right now to convince you. So we would move the talk to later? Is that okay?"
Asher nodded.
"Your ice cream is melting."
