I Am Tired Of Being A Hero
Chapter 114: Thoughts of Arlen

Chapter 114: Thoughts of Arlen

Ravi rolled from one side of the bed to the other side and repeated the action more than 50 times when he woke up that morning. The events of yesterday replayed in his mind like a movie and he was like a captured audience who could not help but watch.

Where had he gotten the courage? He did not regret it though, voicing the secret that was deep in his heart.

He wanted everything about Arlen. Perhaps it was admiration first, he cherished it as a friend and adorned him as a person. Yesterday, he wanted to sink his fingers into his hair, that luscious beautiful blonde hair and pull him close.

Closer.

And brush his lips over his neck, his chin, his cheeks, press a kiss on those closed eyes, and then...

Ravi hurriedly stopped his thought at that moment. Cooling the heat that crawled through his veins like shattering glass. He rolled to his back and stared at the ceiling.

"I am completely doomed." Ravi said in his mind. His thoughts were whirring too much and It was still very early in the morning for some wine. Asher was still sleeping and he could not stay in this room, recalling and reliving all their moments together, all the times that they had shared together.

There was only one other way to get this out of his system. He rolled out of his bed, yawning as he entered the bathroom to wash his face and brush his teeth. Taking a clean apron from the wardrobe, it was blue, just like...

"Ravi."

It was like saying that he liked Arlen became a trigger for his thoughts, they came flooding at times he did not plan with an intensity that he did not want.

Tying the apron around his waist, he appeared in the studio workshop.

Sitting down, he picked up the brush, the tip making a scratching sound in the quiet morning. Soon a faint outline began to take shape.

Satisfied, Ravi took out a small brush, diluted the pigments, and began to paint.

It was raining and yet the raindrops avoided the person who was sleeping in the middle. It was like that fairy tale he had read when he was little, Snow white who slept peacefully or was it sleeping beauty, Ravi was not sure anymore. He just knew that Arlen was more beautiful than any of the princesses in that fairy tale book.

Ravi’s focus in his painting was lines. Paying attention to lines more than color allowed him to harmonize them better. His teachers in the Ancient Chinese Dynasty had called it an outrage but Ravi refused to change it, one of the few things that he had been stubborn about.

He traced the blonde hair with a thinner brush, the thin lines making it as if the hair was fluttering in the cool night breeze. The painting soon came to life in front of him, the person was sleeping so peacefully amidst all the chaos around him.

Ravi felt as if the emotions bundled in his chest had finally found an outlet, draining completely. He reached out and his fingers ghosted above the painting in front of him.

Arlen was always so easy to paint, flowing naturally. He was so captivating that anytime that Ravi pained him he could feel a continuous stream of inspiration. His cheeks colored as he bent to wash his brushes.

After spreading them, he decided to move in the last painting that he did and hang them, it was a huge painting, and the person in the painting had their back to the window and as if he noticed someone, he tilted his head slightly to reveal a side of their face, he was not smiling but the slight smile in his face could not be mistaken, it made the blue eyes glow, like the most precious of jewels.

It was just an ordinary day in the office but this was one of Ravi’s favorite drawings.

The sun was already high up in the air when Ravi left the workshop, he turned to close the door.

"Ravi!"

Ravi jumped, rushing to close the door. He turned to see Asher and he placed his hand on his chest. This room was another one of his secrets and nobody, especially Arlen, should see it. The child looked at him suspiciously, he was carrying a tray with a bowl on it.

"Good morning. I brought you food."

"Good morning, Asher." He patted his head and then sat down on the pavement of the workshop. Creating some water to wash his hands, he collected the bowl from Asher.

"Thank you. Did you just get up?"

Asher sat next to him and shook his head, "It is 2 p.m. I have been up since morning."

"2 p.m!" That much time had passed.

"You did not know?"

Ravi shook his head and looked at the bowl of congee, "Thank you for bringing lunch for me, Asher."

The child nodded, looking away with slight embarrassment.

Ravi’s fingers twitched, he wanted to return to the workshop and paint, paint this cute child.

"You cooked it yourself? Did you use a recipe book?" He felt guilty, he should be the one doing this. Just because Asher could cook does not mean he should.

"Sage taught me the recipe."

Ravi’s fingers trembled, fine, it would be his punishment. He took a spoonful, the congee was not fully soft but it was delicious.

"How is it?"

"Surprisingly good." Ravi said taking another spoon.

Asher’s eyes widened, "Surprisingly." He looked down with a sad expression, "You do not think I could cook."

Ravi blinked and thought of what he said, he stopped eating and turned to face him, "Of course, I have faith in you. You can do anything you want to do. Sage’s recipe, not so much."

Asher laughed, he tried to hide it but his shoulder shook so much for it not to be a laugh, "Malik said I should do the exact opposite of everything in Sage’s recipe."

Ravi smiled, "You see why I was surprisingly good. Thank you. Done with the list?"

"I asked you to make a list of everything you need." Ravi stopped, Asher might just write air and water, "Go and get ready. We are going out today."

The fright in those cornflower blue eyes was even more noticeable now that he was a human.

"You can change your features if you want but I would not let anything ever happen to you." He was not upset. He did not mind repeating for a hundred times until Asher believed him.

He had spent forever protecting those he did not know or gave a damn about. Now, he just wanted to protect the few he cared for.
