I Am Tired Of Being A Hero -
Chapter 113: Calling his brother-in-law
Chapter 113: Calling his brother-in-law
"I understand his need for revenge but half of those people he killed did not do anything wrong? How would you feel if someone burned you just because your father, mother, or brother was someone evil? Glowingorange
"When they were enjoying the blood money, didn’t they know that there would be a time for reckoning.’- Aibika
’Upstairs! Are you crazy? Do you ask your parents where they get their money from?’- EldarklovesNina
’I don’t care about all these.’ The only thing that I know is that I can not stand looking at any of these Mainstream products. Who knows if my house would catch on fire and their lawyer would blame me instead.’-Moonbug
’Me too’
’Me three’
’Me +123’
The news about the case has gone online and the internet was divided over who was right or who was wrong. The only thing that interested Arlen to see was the steady drop of the Mainstream electrical solution stocks every hour.
But all the public knew was the reason for the arson case, they did not yet know that Maia Black was dead. The woman had checked out of her hospital, gone to the location of the old Harrows building, bought a can of gasoline, and set herself on fire.
The security camera had shown her all the way so it was not murder. Her gaze was not like Karen’s, it was not blank or empty, but it was filled with so much guilt and resolution. It was the eyes of a hypnotized person but a woman who had lost everything because of her callous actions in her past.
But it still bugged him, especially when he contrasted it with Lucas’s behavior. It was almost as if he had been expecting it to happen. There was no evidence of his thoughts, but the thoughts were still there, bugging him.
"Arlen?"
"Yes, Brother Silas."
"I have done as you requested. The lawyer would be in Davenport in the evening and the Mainstream electrical solutions would be finished in three days. The company would be liquefied and the money would be used to settle others like Harrow and the workers. Is that okay?"
Arlen frowned and sighed loudly. He still was not happy.
"What is it?" The steady voice sounded in Arlen’s ears and he sighed again.
"Brother Silas. You met my sister when she saved you from the ship. Were you afraid?"
"I was about to drown in the ocean. If I was not afraid, that would make me a little mental, don’t you think?"
Arlen chuckled but he still sighed.
"Just go straight to the point."
Arlen swallowed and he tapped on the table before he collected himself, "I have a friend. A close friend." His eyes softened and a faint smile tugged on his lips, "He has saved my life two times now." He rubbed his head and leaned back on the chair, "It is a little scary."
"Scary? Does he want anything from you?"
"No. No. That is the scary part. I don’t even have anything to give him back. He is stronger than me. I might not even have the chance to pay him back. I feel..."
"You feel indebted."
"Yes. I am indebted. It is like there is a chain around my neck, it is uncomfortable. I want to pay him back. I want to pay him back so quickly." Arlen sighed.
"Then, how about you pay him back with your body?"
Arlen thought about that strip of skin that he had seen when Ravi had unbuttoned his shirt and he swallowed.
"Arlen! Arlen! That was a joke!"
Arlen unbuttoned the top button on his shirt, ’I know that."
Silas sighed, "You know I once dropped your sister at a Conference before we started dating. It was raining and I knew she would not be able to fly because of the rain so I decided to wait for her. I went to a restaurant, and bought some warm soup with a thermos and an umbrella." Silas chuckled, his voice laced with a heavy nostalgia, "I can not forget the look she gave me. Like she did not understand why I would put so much effort. It was nothing and yet the next day, she brought some warm soup to pay me back. It is as if she did not know how to accept affection. I thought it was just her, but with Anouk and you, I am thinking it is a Sinclair problem."
Arlen glared at the person speaking through the phone even though he was not there, how dare he compare him to a scatterbrain like his sister or an ice block like his brother? He knew how to accept affection.
"Arlen that friend of yours, if he is in trouble would you save him?"
"Of course!" Arlen did not think twice. Not only would he save him, but he would make sure that the person who caused Arlen to enter trouble would pay a hefty price for it.
"And how would you feel if the person feels uncomfortable for your kind grace? Would you be happy? Arlen, don’t think too much. This person cares for you, accepts his kind grace, and thanks him for it. If you have a chance, repay it in the future, if you can’t then be more thoughtful in your deeds. Okay?" Silas said.
Arlen nodded. They talked for some more before he hung up and leaned his head on the table. He took out his phone and checked Ravi’s profile.
The number was just there. Status, empty. Pictures, are nonexistent. He traced the number, this person was always so kind to him, so kind. Arlen was afraid, so afraid that he was getting addicted to this kindness.
If Ravi should one day stop being kind to him, he might not be able to adapt. That is what scared him, that is what scared him the most.
"Ravi, How are you doing? Can I come over tonight?"
"Fine. You have never asked before." Arlen sat up straight, and Ravi replied immediately. Was he about to contact him too?
"I am asking now?" His cheeks colored red. Calling the owner of the house before visiting was something he had been raised with.
"You can come anytime you want. You don’t need to ask." Somehow he could see Ravi’s image through the phone. The other would roll his eyes a bit, his lips would tilt as if he was about to smile and his hazel eyes would soften, the hint of gold shining through the gray.
"That is a mighty gift, are you not afraid I might misuse it." Arlen laughed, his entire body relaxing as he typed.
"Captain, are you bored?"
