I Am Tired Of Being A Hero
Chapter 108: Instinct

Chapter 108: Instinct

"Heroes, they are just greedy, gifted people who profit off the misery of other people.-Petyr Resse". That was the last thing he said before he was sent to prison for the murder of a hero.

Ravi thought he was wrong, heroes were more fools than greedy bastards but now, seeing the emblem of the Heroes Association suddenly show up in the fire, even though they had been no contact all these while.

There were three of them in the air. Two men and a woman. The woman twisted her fingers and the earth trembled, rocks moving forward, twisting and turning to support the building.

The huge skyscraper that they had just visited a few hours earlier was now filled with smoke.

"So, now they are here." Lisa said, frowning as one of the men flew down and began carrying people to safety.

"This fire is different." Draco noted, "It is not that hot."

"It should be a distraction for us." He looked at the screaming people being escorted out of the building, he wanted to help but that was not the objective right now, "We would find the suspect, arrest him, and get out."

"Captain Sinclair. I am Gauze from the Heroes Association. Sorry, I am late. You can go now, I would take it from here."

Everyone looked at each other, and Ravi could hear several teeth gritting.

"Excuse me, Gauze, isn’t it? This is our case." Draco said angrily, his temper was at the brink of flaring up.

Gauze did not spare him a look, "Captain Sinclair."

Arlen looked at him, he could recognize the black metallic suit on the man’s body, an insulated containment suit, it was perfect for handling elemental ability criminals. He nodded, "Alright. If we see him, we call you. But we have to find him first. We are police, that is our job."

The man did not argue, nodding and leading the way to the CEO’s office. Outside the office, the Team 2 police officers were lying around.

Lisa rushed to one and placed her fingers on his neck, "He is still alive."

Draco almost moved to check and he raised his head to look at the rest of them, "they are all alive." He then lifted one of them, and zoomed out.

Arlen felt him behind and they continued to walk forward, the bodyguards that had looked down on them earlier were all lying around, they were all injured but none of them were dead.

The moment they opened the door to the CEO’s office, the smell of burnt corpse assaulted their nose, they did not even have to try to look.

Dead. Cole Black was dead. Beside him was a woman, leaning on the tables, scattered plates of food were all over the place. Arlen stepped over the dishes and the charred corpse on the ground to nudge at the woman.

She was alive, unharmed, probably fainted from smoke inhalation or the terror of seeing someone burn in front of her.

She could not wake up so Ravi moved his fingers discreetly.

The slight shock to her nerves jolted her awake and the woman with wine-red hair and pretty features opened her eyes.

"Miss Matel, this is Captain Sinclair. You remember me from this afternoon."

She nodded before she seemed to recall what happened and turned to look around but Arlen’s tall body blocked her view.

Her eyes slowly filled with tears, "Oh my god! Oh! Cole! Cole!" Her eyes were filled with pain, and a grief so deep. She seemed out of it, and just continued to call his name.

"Miss Matel!" Arlen’s voice was stricter, "Do you remember Mr Black giving out any form of address?"

"On the phone."

"Which address is it?"

"I can’t remember. I..."

"Yes, you can." His voice was calm and kind. "Yes, you can."

Ravi could just imagine what kind of gaze she saw in those blue eyes as she slowly calmed down, "It is Pane County. No 4 Melbourne Street."

"That is like 15 minutes from here."

"I will go first." Gauze said and leaped through the window, those boots lighting up as he flew through the air. Ravi looked at Arlen’s legs, those boots he had given Millie during the Johnson fire, it seemed like he had not gotten it back.

Ravi could end this, he could all end it right now. After all these days, it was enough for him to sniff out Ryan’s energy trace, find him, and kill him but he had no single desire to do so.

Even though he was participating so fervently in this case, he felt as if it was a phantom piece of him, the other part of him was outside all these, watching apathetically.

If Ryan decides to kill Maia, he would not care. If he decides to burn the entire Mainstream Electrical Solution Workers, he would just iron his black funeral suit and pray they give him a day off from work.

"I think I would paralyze him for ten seconds and then Draco can throw me into the river? Good idea?" Lisa whispered to him, they were back in the van on their way to Pane Country.

It was already late evening, the sun and the stars had begun their very brief meeting.

The smoke reached them first before any other thing. Sarah hurriedly packed and they came down from the car.

The house must have been beautiful but it was impossible to tell, thick smoke filled the air as flames roared into the night sky. Unlike the fire in the Mainstream headquarters building, this fire was much hotter, licking their skin although they stood far away.

Gauze, the hero, was holding a middle-aged man, whose shoulders were shaking seriously.

He was laughing.

The three words filled everyone’s head. The man raised his head, his eyes were so cold and so empty that it made one feel a chill run down their spine.

"Too late." He said, a huge smile on his face.

Arlen looked at the man for a few seconds and instantly moved, gusts of wind appeared lifting him into the burning building.

A deep terror swept through Ravi’s body, "Arlen!" The scream tore from his lips and he moved without thinking.
