Chapter 612: Chapter 610 - White Silk Lolita_1

The voice suddenly cut off, as if someone was attempting to shout a phrase, but the sound was abruptly snuffed out, choked into silence halfway through the first word.

The tattooed man turned towards the sound, only to find the office area behind him littered with debris, but otherwise empty.

"Was that... just my imagination?"

The tattooed man felt puzzled; after all, a half-formed word he thought he’d heard was a little too vague for him to discern. But despite his extensive experience in the post-apocalyptic world, he knew he couldn’t confidently determine whether it was a figment of his imagination.

He continued walking. Dust coating the doors of numerous rooms was marked with handprints, clearly freshly made. Yet, the more he walked, the stronger the feeling grew that something was amiss — an elusive something hidden from his perception.

It was as if something had been removed from his mind, though he couldn’t pinpoint when it had disappeared. Even the familiar surroundings now seemed oddly unfamiliar.

This was undoubtedly the feeling of a sudden loss of routine or habit.

"Dammit. What the hell is going on?"

Becoming frustrated, the tattooed man pulled out his H-steel long knife and began to search wildly on the fourth floor. After a while, his gaze landed once again on one of the recently touched doors. It was as if time had stopped in that moment, the silence was suffocating, with not a sound in the vicinity.

He finally realized what was wrong! Since his group had entered this building, whether above or below, there had been weak murmurs of conversation and faint sounds of footsteps from his companions.

And now, there was nothing. Nothing but an oppressive silence so thick it seemed to smother the breath out of him.

A sudden rush of unease surged through him. Cursing, ’Dammit!’, the tattooed man began to hurry downstairs, quickly scanning each floor in search for his companions.

Third floor, nothing.

Second floor? Nothing.

First floor? Absolutely nothing!

He stood in the lobby of the first floor, dumbstruck. His intuition warning him frantically to get out of there. However, he was also trying to figure out how a group of twelve, where seven were Level 4 and four were Level 3 considering one was stuck on a far-off building by the spider’s web, possibly vanish in the face of a single Level 4 zombie.

"That’s impossible, how could they have gotten into trouble so easily?"

The tattooed man’s face twisted, holding his long knife, he continued to search upstairs. However, his frantic search yielded no results.

"Hey? Where did you all go?"

The tattooed man shouted in desperation, calling out for his companions. Despite his suspicions, he still felt most likely that they had already left. But why would they suddenly leave?

Did they perhaps get tired of waiting and sneak away behind his back?

But there should have been some noise, right? Regardless of how many powerhouses we had, it would be impossible to kill a creature of Level 4 strength in one hit. There should have been some noise.

It was totally impossible for them to disappear without a trace.

Unwilling to accept the reality, the tattooed man made his way back up to the second floor, even more determined. However, in the stairwell, he heard a voice.

"Brother Bei, is that you?"

His spirits lifted immediately, he shouted back: "I’m at the entrance to the second floor. Where are you?""

"Oh, I’m coming down."

The tattooed man looked up just as a Level 3 New Human, who appeared to be in his thirties, ran down. His face showed he was still scared.

"Did you encounter anything?"

The tattooed man asked suspiciously, but the man shook his head.

"No, the others just suddenly disappeared. So, I started looking, but there’s no one anywhere."

"Let’s go check the entrance below."

Having thought of something, the tattooed man led the man downstairs to the entrance of the first floor. Apart from the footprints facing towards them, there were no other footprints leading in different directions.

"They didn’t leave, which means they’re still here."

"Should we go upstairs and look for them?"

"No." The tattooed man shook his head, "First, we have to notify Brother Gao and his team. This may not be a simple matter. I fear something may have happened to the others."

The man’s face turned pale, stammering in shock after a long pause: "This... That’s impossible, right? We have so many Level 4 powerhouses. How could we possibly have been silently killed by a single Level 4 zombie?"

The tattooed man shook his head again: "I don’t know, we just need to inform Brother Gao first."

"Alright."

The man could only agree, and he took out his communicator to call Gao Shunan on the other side. The two men then went back upstairs to the second floor and continued their search for the others.

"We’ve already searched here, there’s nobody."

"Let’s go to the third floor."

"Alright."

"Wait, how much longer until Brother Gao arrives?"

"Brother Gao said it’ll be ten more minutes."

"Alright, let’s go."

The tattooed man waved his hand, taking the man to the third floor in a flash. Violently bursting into each room, they looked for any suspicious signs.

"We’ve searched everywhere."

"Let’s go to the fourth floor!"

Without pausing to rest, the tattooed man led the man to the fourth floor. Their rushed steps echoed eerily in the oppressive silence of the building.

But just as the tattooed man was about to step into the stairwell between the third and fourth floors, the man behind him suddenly let out a blood-curdling scream. He spun around just in time to see the man’s legs disappearing into the darkness, as if being dragged by some unseen force.

"F*ck!"

The tattooed man cursed and leaped from the staircase with his knife, but before his feet had touched the floor, a shower of blood splattered across his face.

Before he could comprehend what had happened, his vision was obscured by the warm, sticky blood.

With his sight impaired, the instinctive human survival response kicked in, and he began to blindly swing his blade. Wiping the blood from his face, he looked to find the man brutally torn in half.

He barely had time to register the gruesome sight when he felt a whooshing sound near his ear. Quickly, he swung his knife around, but it was too late. He felt a stabbing pain in his chest and was sent flying. By the time he came to his senses, he realized his chest had been pierced, and blood gushed out.

"Hehehe~ All your companions are dead. Now, it’s your turn, hahaha."

In front of him, the variegated spider laughed wickedly. Out of nowhere, a strangely dressed girl donning a pink lacy dress appeared on a nearby window sill, staring blankly towards them.

"This beast!"

The tattooed man spat out, upon seeing the girl, his first thought was that this cute and pretty girl in white stockings was held captive by this monstrous, old spider, and he and his group were there to rescue this damsel.

He forced his wounded body to stand up, Level 4 New Humans had a robust vitality. Even with a punctured chest, as long as his heart was not affected, he could still fight!

"Die!"

Enraged, he charged forward, his mind clouded by the idea of being a hero, he failed to notice the evil gleam in the spider’s eyes.
