Chapter 582: Chapter 579: Giant Creature in the Water_1

Looking eastward, a giant blaze rose from the silent, desolate city. This city had been without management for years and under the erosion of time; it had turned into a semi-ruin.

On the crisscross streets, the roars of the zombies broke the heavens. A few modified buses traveled in the middle of the crowded horde of zombies. The rotating shovel at the vehicle’s front turned the zombies into minced meat. Vehicles of the convoy were fitted with flamethrowers, spewing out searing flames, turning a host of zombies into charred remains.

They were charging towards the toll station. In Tang Ye’s perspective, the number of zombies was enormous and terrifying. The visible streets were packed with dense hordes of zombies, sending chills down one’s spine just at the sight of it!

Not only was the bus carving a path through the mass of zombies, other lines of survivor convoys were also rushing in their direction.

"That is..."

"This is getting weird."

Every street seemed to have survivors heading towards the toll station. Why would they choose to leave at such a dangerous moment? If they encounter a high-level zombie, their entire convoy may be destroyed. They were clearly risking their lives to escape the city!

"There’s something strange about these zombies."

Tang Ye murmured as if speaking to the air. There were countless zombies rushing towards the toll station below, with Niu Xiaosan being their target. However, once they passed the toll station, they stopped as if they had lost their target, and started buzzing around like headless flies. Meanwhile, dozens of silver-armored zombies rushed over and stood by their side like protective deities.

Looking further down the road, there was a bridge, and beneath it, the shimmering in the darkness hinted at the surface of the Qulong River.

At this time, a convoy of survivors finally broke through the sea of zombies and rushed into the toll station. When they saw Tang Ye, they looked terrified.

"Who are they?"

"Is that a zombie next to them?"

Tang Ye and the survivors in the vehicle exchanged glances until they moved away. In the Qulong River, he then saw a giant shadow moving under the water surface.

"What is that?"

"What did master see?"

Tang Ye pointed out, and Niu Xiaosan squinted to look. It was too dark; without the night-vision of a zombie, he couldn’t see anything at all.

"Let’s go check it out."

"Okay."

The two of them got in the car and drove to the middle of the Qulong River Bridge. Unable to see what was in the river due to the darkness, Niu Xiaosan shined a super spotlight into the Qulong River.

The sight almost scared the life out of him.

In the gently swelling river, a creature resembling but not quite an octopus was slowly swimming towards them. The creature was around eighty meters long, and its body was thick and stout, a massive monstrosity!

Seemingly noticing Niu Xiaosan, the creature hesitated as it reached beneath the bridge. Its body slowly rose vertically, and the surface of the water vibrated. With a great splash, a crown-like structure, about a meter and a half tall, emerged from the water. The crown stood upright like a person with legs together, resembling a statue of Guanyin.

"What does it want?" Tang Ye was bewildered.

After revealing the crown on its head, the creature’s massive body settled in the water, like a rooted flower. Those unaware would probably not recognize it as a colossal creature at first glance!

With its movements, the consciousness wafting in the air started to become vague. Tang Ye sniffed hard, squinting his eyes.

"How can this be..."

From the creature, Tang Ye could not only smell the scent of zombies but also an overly strong odor of flesh and blood. These two are contradicting. He noticed that the zombie scent was emanating from the water, and due to being obstructed by the water, the stench was faint.

However, the strong odor of flesh and blood was coming from the crown on the creature’s head.

After a few sniffs, Tang Ye held his nose and stopped smelling. This smell was likely a deliberate attempt by the creature to attract prey, and the prey was him.

As a zombie itself, it deliberately emitted the scent of flesh and blood. What does the smell of blood and flesh attract the most? Zombies, of course!

Furthermore, Tang Ye was a Level 6 zombie. Maybe the creature had malicious intentions when it saw his level, but it didn’t know that Tang Ye was not an ordinary zombie.

However, to Tang Ye’s surprise, he was not attracted by the intense smell of flesh and blood. Instead, Niu Xiaosan beside him became dazed and began to move forward uncontrollably, even preparing to climb over the guardrail.

"What are you doing?"

Tang Ye quickly grabbed his collar, and seeing Niu Xiaosan’s abnormal state, he instantly slapped him to snap him out of it.

"Ah? Master? What happened?"

Niu Xiaosan came to his senses, visibly shocked when he saw Tang Ye’s face. From his reaction, he had clearly been awakened by Tang Ye.

"Look at what you were doing."

Niu Xiaosan looked down and saw one of his feet resting on the guardrail. He quickly retracted it in fear.

"It seemed like something blinded me just now, and I couldn’t control myself from walking forward."

"That thing is using something to lure its prey."

Tang Ye’s face turned frosty. This creature was in the water, and some of the smell coming from it was blocked by the water’s surface, making it hard for Tang Ye to discern its actual level. He could use his zombie dragon to test it.

With that thought, Tang Ye started to get in touch with his zombie dragon.

"Kill it!"

After a few minutes, a roar came from the distance. The river embankment was busted open by an immense force, and a huge figure burrowed itself into the water from the land. The water of Qulong River roiled profusely, creating huge splashes.

The creature seemed to realize something was wrong and quickly withdrew its crown. However, the zombie dragon moved incredibly fast, and as soon as the creature had withdrawn the crown, it found itself face-to-face with the dragon. The dragon opened its massive jaws and sucked in a large amount of water.

Bubbles...

A multitude of bubbles appeared on the surface of the river, and for a moment, Tang Ye couldn’t see the condition below. About half a minute later, with the dragon’s tail rising high above the water, dark red blood began to seep out, staining a large area of the river red.

Roar! Hiss...

Two roars sounded simultaneously. The zombie dragon’s tail violently slammed down into the water, causing giant waves to rise several tens of meters high. At that moment, the entire Qulong River roiled fiercely as if it had been shaken in a basin. The massive waves shattered the buildings on the riverbank!

Growl...

The dragon roared again, its head emerged from the water with a large chunk of flesh held in its jaws. It threw it next to Tang Ye, signifying that the creature had been taken care of.

Tang Ye checked the flesh. The skin of the creature was like dead tree bark, full of wrinkles, and dry to the point that it was disturbing to look at.
