I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World -

Chapter 581: Chapter 578: Anomaly_1
On the highway blanketed by heavy snow, a convoy gradually came to a halt after spotting Tang Ye and his companion.
"Hold on, our vehicle has broken down. Can you lend us one of yours?"
In the darkness, the only source of illumination came from the vehicle lights. These lights, however, obscured certain angles of vision, making areas outside their beams even darker.
Niu Xiaosan, unable to see how many people were in the vehicles, held up guns in both hands, aiming towards the cargo truck at the front of the convoy and yelled out loud.
The people on the convoy communicated amongst themselves for a while, seemingly hesitating. Tang Ye didn’t see any motorcycles and the people on the vehicles were dishevelled, suggesting they weren’t part of a biker gang.
Through Tang Ye’s zombie eyes, he could clearly see the survivors on the cargo truck change expressions upon looking at the guns in Niu Xiaosan’s hands. The driver seemed to communicate something to the people in the back; after a while, an SUV from the back started to pull up.
The people in the SUV didn’t say a word. They drove the vehicle in front of Tang Ye, got out, then raised their hands. They walked backwards step by step, then, once they were about ten meters away, they sprinted towards another vehicle, after which the convoy started moving ahead again.
"Sir, these people are surprisingly obedient."
Niu Xiaosan put away his guns, staring at the taillights of the departing convoy.
"They’re not obedient, they’re smart."
Tang Ye touched the car. In the post-apocalypse, it wasn’t about obedience or disobedience. The reason these survivors behaved this way was because they didn’t have any guns. While there were many survivors, not everyone was lucky; many had been barely scraping by since the apocalypse began, never even having a chance to handle a gun. When they encountered someone with a gun, they had to submit.
This was the first time Tang Ye met such decisive survivors. But upon careful thought, it certainly was a wise move. When confronting a bully on a narrow way, ditching a car was far better than losing one’s life.
At the same time, their actions reiterated a principle: you might not need to use a weapon, but you definitely shouldn’t be without one!
Not using and not having are two different things!
"Let’s get going. How much farther?"
Niu Xiaosan glanced at the distant road sign, estimated their position, then replied: "Should be less than a hundred kilometers."
Tang Ye also looked at the road sign. The location names were unfamiliar; he had no idea where they were.
The pair got ready, got in the vehicle, and resumed their journey. But not long after, they encountered something bizarre. As they progressed, two car headlights appeared on the dark road ahead. There were more vehicles following behind too.
The pair were taken aback. Tang Ye squinted, allowing his pupils to dilate and see further. The oncoming convoy was the one they’d just encountered, and it was now heading back to them!
"It’s them."
"Who?"
"The same convoy from before."
"Oh? It’s them. Why have they come back?"
Tang Ye watched them inch closer and closer, their pace significantly quicker than before.
"Hey, why are you guys back?"
Niu Xiaosan rolled down the vehicle window, calling out to the convoy that hurried past. But the people at the front of the convoy ignored him. They didn’t even want to glance at him. Their anxious faces sent a chill down one’s spine.
As the convoy passed them, a woman holding a child jeered from the back, "You’d better get a move on if you don’t want to die."
Niu Xiaosan turned to glance at Tang Ye, seeking his suggestions. Yet Tang Ye didn’t respond. He merely watched the road ahead, unsure of what these people might have seen or encountered.
As the convoy finally passed them, Tang Ye looked on thoughtfully and said, "Keep going ahead."
"Alright."
Niu Xiaosan didn’t bother asking what the fleeing survivors might have encountered. In his heart, as long as he had the protection of this "master", everything was under control.
In Tang Ye’s perception, a strong awareness was constantly stirring in this area. Unlike that consciousness trying to control him, this one felt more familiar, identical to the one he had sensed on the city highway bridge. It consumed him silently as it awakened violent impulses buried deep within his zombie consciousness. This violent, brutal energy pulsed so strongly it allowed the zombie to sense where humans were located!
At Tang Ye’s request, Niu Xiaosan started the SUV. Unlike the 46th Division’s military jeep, this SUV was fitted with a skid chain, which allowed the vehicle to traverse the ice-covered roads safely.
Two kilometers later, dozens of lights appeared again from the dark distance. Tang Ye furrowed his brows as these lights were rapidly closing the distance.
When they got closer, he saw, to his surprise, more than a dozen motorcycles!
It was the biker gang!
The gang roared on their motorcycles, the sound of their engines so loud it gave them a throbbing headache. However, they too appeared to be escaping. The road was too slippery. Tang Ye and Niu Xiaosan saw motorcycles skidding sideways and rolling over more than ten meters away every now and then.
"Sir, should we...?"
"Get your weapons."
Tang Ye drew out his Blade of Flesh and Blood. If any of the bikers dared to make trouble, they wouldn’t be leaving alive!
But, to everyone’s surprise, when the biker gang passed them, they just glanced at Tang Ye and kept riding. Tang Ye even heard one of them shout.
"Don’t bother with them, let’s go!"
As the biker gang zoomed past, Tang Ye got out of the car. In less than a minute, more lights appeared from up ahead. It was another biker gang, but this one was larger than the previous one.
Like the previous one, they just glanced at Tang Ye and moved on. It was as if they were running away from something.
One of the passing motorcycles slipped, causing it to swerve towards Tang Ye’s side. But he merely moved his foot out of the way, allowing the motorcycle to narrowly miss him and crash into a roadside billboard, causing a beautiful shower of sparks.
"Get in. Let’s see what’s up ahead."
"Yes, sir."
Tang Ye got back into the car, and Niu Xiaosan floored the accelerator. The headlights from their vehicle seemed lonely in the darkness, illuminating the white snowflakes falling from the sky. Yet, strangely, half an hour into their journey, apart from running into one biker gang after another, they hadn’t encountered anything unusual. However, Tang Ye did sense that the consciousness was intensifying, as if some entity was getting closer and closer to him!
After the eighth wave of bikers had passed by them, Niu Xiaosan suddenly broke the silence, "Sir, we’re reaching the Qulong River Bridge."
"Hmm, keep going."
"Alright."
Niu Xiaosan didn’t waste any words. After an affirmative nod, he continued to drive. Once they reached the toll station near the Qulong River Bridge, Tang Ye finally detected some anomalies.
