I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World -
Chapter 541 - 538
Chapter 541: 538
A cargo ship spanning 112 meters cruised the vast ocean surface. Yaztec held his camera, but he wasn’t filming. He felt he hadn’t found the place he was looking for yet.
In this fishing village, he had found six places that appeared in his dreams. This was the place where he found the most dreamlike locations. He thought there might be another spot in this area.
He had a feeling deep in his heart. He was very close to that place, but unlike the previous places he had filmed, those dreamlike places were beautiful and fairylike. Only the dream of standing on the ocean gave him a rather oppressive feeling.
He stood at the bow of the ship, staring blankly at several icebergs in the distance.
"Hey, pal, I know you’re passionate about photography, but isn’t this a bit too much? It’s a time for good food and drink, right?" a jolly Russian uncle said to Yaztec, holding a fishing rod. He was a Level 1 New Human and the leader of a fishing team, a decent person.
"Ha-ha, I feel blessed to have this hobby."
"Hey, young man, hobbies are meant to make money, aren’t they? In this day and age, hobbies can’t earn much money."
The uncle said in a self-deprecating tone. Yaztec shook his head with an amused look and continued staring at the sea. The feeling from his dream was getting stronger and stronger.
The sea was sometimes calm, sometimes rippling with waves. The icebergs on the surface swayed left and right with the waves. The uncle handed Yaztec a cigarette, but he politely refused, "Sorry, I just smoked one."
"I see. So have you found it?"
"Oh, not yet."
"You are really patient. I envy that."
"Ha ha ha."
As they spoke, another swell beat against the ship’s hull. As the ship moved forward, the sea became more turbulent.
"One, two, three! Pull!"
The busy fishermen were shouting behind them. Several of them worked together to pull the large net onto the ship. Countless fish were scattered on the deck, slamming their bodies against the ground, making a bang, bang, bang sound.
"Great job, guys!"
Everyone seemed happy with the big catch. They had caught several evolved fish. After stabbing a fish gill with a knife and scooping out a fingernail-sized Evolution Crystal Core, they could exchange it for a fair amount of alcohol back home.
There were many evolved creatures in the ocean. Basic fishing often resulted in 10 to 30 percent evolved fish in the net. The Crystal Cores of these evolved fish were precious, and their meat was a delicious delicacy.
Some people would roast a piece of fish meat after extracting the Crystal Core and throw it directly into their mouths. The meat of the evolved fish was very juicy, and it could be eaten raw as sashimi. Therefore, the ship was filled with joyful laughter because of the catch.
"Oh, look at this! I’m so unlucky, I caught a zombie fish."
"Hey look at mine, it’s a half-zombie infection!"
Two of them were looking upset. After splitting the evolved fish, they began to clean the rusty scaled fish.
Their luck was really bad. It had been a long time since they had encountered any half-zombie or zombie fish. Now that they had, every fish in this net needed to be checked for infection. It was a hassle.
At the advent of the Apocalypse, the first batch of organisms that turned into zombies was exposed to black rain. When black rain fell into the ocean, some of its toxic properties were diluted by seawater. This caused some fish to experience "incomplete infection," creating what were known as half-zombie fish.
The probability of half-zombie fish appearing was very low. But once they appeared, they were ten times more troublesome than direct zombie fish!
Half-zombie fish were different from infected or uninfected fish. They had a pale green hue to their skin, and the rust color wasn’t so heavy, which made them easily recognizable. Furthermore, half-zombie fish were emotionally unstable. Sometimes they were non-aggressive, but at other times they would aggressively bite other non-infected fish. Moreover, due to their peculiar nature, their blood and aura didn’t disappear, meaning non-infected fish treated them as one of their own. However, they carried anti-life matter, which could spread in the ocean as they swam and infect other uninfected organisms.
Of course, humans could also become half-zombies, but almost no one knew this. Only some fishermen who had encountered half-zombie fish speculated that humans could also become half-zombies. However, the human body’s structure was much more complex than fish, so the probability of humans becoming half-zombies was hundreds of times lower than that of fish!
When the people on the ship heard the two men’s words, they all came over to see. It had been a long time since they’d caught any zombie fish, and they had almost forgotten about them.
Yaztec was startled when he heard the noise. He had heard about fishermen catching zombie fish and half-zombie fish before, but despite living here for almost two years, he had only heard of them. He had never seen them in person.
After taking a glance, Yaztec ran back to his spot. The sight of zombies was no longer surprising to him. In Russia, few areas were overrun by human zombies. Moreover, due to the sparse population before the Apocalypse, even if some people turned into zombies, they ate very few humans. Therefore, the overall strength of Russian zombies was pitifully weak. While other places were dealing with terrifying zombies like the White-haired Zombie King who had magical abilities, the highest-ranked zombies in Russia were only Level 4, and even Level 3 zombies were rare.
As for the humans in Russia, Guang Fishing Village had a Level 4 New Human inhabiting it. There were also other Level 4 New Humans nearby. They even had a Level 5 New Human living in a small town near the border of China. The actual number of high-level New Humans exceeded the number of high-level zombies.
With such strength of New Humans and Russia’s heavy industrial background before the Apocalypse, it should have been the most hopeful place to end the Apocalypse. However, even now, the Apocalypse did not end. It wasn’t because people didn’t want to end it, but because it was impossible!
Just because humans can become zombies doesn’t mean other things can’t! Moreover, the vast uninhabited land wasn’t a joke. Many areas were undeveloped, but high-level evolved beasts or man-eating, zombified trees had appeared there.
In the central region, there was a tree known as the "Spirit of Death." Its roots covered a large city. Any aircraft crossing over would be brought down by its unyielding, solid branches!
There were many such cases. The Russian government wanted to use nuclear bombs to clear these areas, but they also had to consider nuclear pollution. Doing so would be a total loss!
Although these things were terrifying, they were not as active as biological zombies. They had many restrictions. As long as people didn’t go close to them, they wouldn’t get into trouble. They wouldn’t form massive zombie waves to wash over the survivor bases like in other areas.
Thus, the people of Russia didn’t focus much on these things.
