Chapter 540: Chapter 537: The Extreme North Zombie King and Water Guanyin 1_1

Jin Liudong hung up the phone, suppressing his simmering rage. His eyes gleamed with icy flashes. After a while, he glanced at his phone and muttered to himself, "Li Songhua, you really act fast... But... this girl’s name is Chen Bieli? She’s pretty, but for my son’s sake, I’ll have to let you down, Wenyi. Your love for her won’t change anything."

His tone was icy cold, like that of a wild beast trapped inside a cage wielding its emotions. But thinking won’t change anything. The plan was to use Chen Bieli to save Jin Wenyi, provided she could escape the capture of Qinshan Base herself.

Jin Liudong had no idea that the moment he hung up the phone, Chen Bieli’s eyes flickered with successful manipulation. Her initial remorseful and sorrowful demeanor abruptly transformed into apathy—a change so swift it was better than those seen in Sichuan opera.

She pocketed Jin Wenyi’s phone and started walking towards her house, to find her murder weapon? Impossible.

As if suddenly remembering something, she took out her phone and scrolled through it for a while, then sent a message to a contact saved as "Childish."

[Hey, can you come to my house? I have something to talk about. Oh, it’s Chen Bieli.]

After sending the message, she swiftly walked off. Her gait was so graceful that it left the spectators breathless. In the survivors’ eyes, this girl seemed to be the only person in this dull world with a different hue, so blinding, like an angel.

Of course, some lecherous bastards smirked and approached her, but before they could get close, a gigantic red-feathered bird swooped down.

This bird, with its wings spanning three meters, was a rarity even within Qinshan Base - home to many red-feathered birds. No one had ever seen a bird of this size attack a human before.

Normally, the birds would flee when attacked by humans. No one had ever observed a bird’s retaliating attack before.

Hence, the lewd man didn’t initially sense the danger. By the time he realized, his head was skewered by the bird’s beak. With a splurt of blood, he slumped lifelessly to the ground, as if his soul had been ripped out.

The red feathered bird soared into the sky, while Chen Bieli cast an icy glance at the fallen corpse before quickening her pace. But not long after, she stopped again and took out her phone, her eyes filled with indecision... which eventually turned into melancholy.

She sent another message to the contact "Childish": [Forget it, it’s not that important. You don’t need to come. Sorry.]

...

Tang Ye, who was currently focusing on his clone, heard his phone ringing at his main body’s location and shifted his attention back.

"Who could it be? Someone is reaching out to me?"

He picked up his phone and saw a new message.

[Hey, can you come to my house? I have something to talk about. Oh, it’s Chen Bieli.]

"Chen Bieli? What does she want?"

Although his first impression of Chen Bieli had been rather indifferent, his perception of her had changed for the better after he discovered her enchanting home.

Her home was like a paradise, a stark contrast with the greyness of the Qinshan Base. The bleak setting didn’t particularly bother Tang Ye, but he couldn’t deny his fascination with her sunny and bright residence.

Throwing his phone aside, Tang ye got up and headed towards Chen Bieli’s place. However, upon reaching her house and venturing into the courtyard, he realized that it was deserted, with only an unlocked door and not a single sign of Chen Bieli.

Thus, he sat on the worn-out sofa on the second floor, basking in the sunlight, waiting nearly an hour for her to return. Finally, disappointed and feeling duped, he returned to the Peace Party’s dwelling.

Being stood up felt incredibly frustrating!

Grumbling all the way back to his room, Tang Ye was filled with discomfort. He was not sure why he felt uneasy. Was it simply because Chen Bieli had stood him up?

Picking up his phone, Tang Ye intended to send a text to Chen Bieli, something along the lines of "Why did you stand me up," but as soon as he opened his phone, he saw her reply.

[Forget it, it’s not that important. You don’t need to come. Sorry.]

"Damn it!"

Checking the timestamps, the two messages were sent five minutes apart. He guessed that Chen Bieli probably had some matter to discuss or needed his help. But then she reconsidered, thinking it wasn’t much of a big deal and didn’t warrant troubling him, hence, the follow-up.

"Is she out of her mind?"

Mumbling to himself, Tang Ye felt more irritated. However, he couldn’t do anything about it as there were pressing matters at hand. His clone and the others, including Qiongli, had reached the Qulong River. Once they cross the river, they should be close to the Chenyang 169 Base.

However, Qiongli and her group had been stranded in T Province for a month...

He was originally an unemployed Russian youngster who led a life devoid of dreams and ambitions. He merely relied on substantial social aid to drift through half his life. Until one day, three years ago, when the Apocalypse struck. Since then, he often dreamt about places that were both foreign yet familiar.

Yaztec couldn’t comprehend why but the horrendous apocalypse and peculiar dreams gave him a newfound hobby—photography.

This sudden interest inspired Yaztec to capture every place he saw in his dreams.

He dreamt of various places and initially thought that they didn’t exist. But later, he discovered that two of those places actually did exist, not far from him.

Before he started having these dreams, those two places seemed ordinary. However, after the Apocalypse, he dreamt about them almost every day or two. There was no plot to these dreams, just sceneries.

The places in his dreams were bewitchingly beautiful, filled with a fairytale-like charm. He fell in love with those imagined landscapes that rooted themselves deeply into his mind—they were unforgettable, and he didn’t want to forget.

He also contemplated that these dreamscapes could be a gift from God, attempting to make his otherwise dull life a tad bit colorful.

Yaztec didn’t disappoint this "God". Although it was the apocalypse, Russia’s population density was low relative to its land area, resulting in fewer zombies compared to populous countries. Moreover, the resilient Russian spirit allowed Yaztec to bravely slay three zombies lurking outside a shop, in the process robbing the shopkeeper of a camera he’d kept for years.

And so, a man, a knife, a camera: Yaztec set off on his journey to seek out his dreamscapes.

Now, he had arrived at a fishing village in northeastern Russia. The chilly weather didn’t affect the villagers much.

Though the cities in Russia were reminiscent of an apocalyptic wasteland filled with twisted human nature and brutal zombies, this wasn’t the case here. The villagers could fish and sustain their livelihood.
