Hunter of the Evernight
Chapter 649: Orphan

Chapter 649: Orphan

The silence that followed served as enough proof that nothing happened, dashing Alex’s hopes of resolving the current situation by destroying the Silent Curtain.

Of course, He had very little chance of success considering the fact that if it were so easy to destroy a relic, the Great Families wouldn’t have wasted resources constructing structures to seal the items.

This meant that to deal with the Silent Curtain, it needed to be sealed.

It may have been easy to do so if Evernight Island was still available.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t an option, hence the reason he turned to the second option.

Figuring out Elena’s current location so she could use her ability to teleport the relic to another dimension, one far away from Arwen’s clutches.

Meanwhile, within DreamWorld, Gregory could only watch as Arwen fought like a savage beast, ripping apart as many of his clones as she could before finally succumbing to exhaustion.

Pinned down and unable to move, she snarled like a beast, baring her fangs in rebellion.

"Arwen, you have to fight back. Don’t let her take control of you!" Gregory loudly said, hopeful that Arwen would hear his words.

The next moment, Arwen’s head dropped, bobbing like she was lifeless as her body stiffened causing Gregory to grow apprehensive.

Just as he rushed over, her body came to life as she raised her head to regard Gregory.

"... Arwen?"

"... Who are you?"

Gregory choked as he stared blankly at Arwen who looked completely lost.

"Who are you and why did you bring me here?" Arwen questioned, growing even more confident as she noticed Gregory’s confused state.

"It’s me, Arwen." Gregory finally replied. "It’s Gregory, your father."

Arwen froze, her eyes slowly widening as she regarded Gregory with a stunned expression.

"I..."

"That’s a lie." Arwen suddenly said, cutting him off. "My dad is dead, same with my mom."

"Arwen..."

"No!... Stop it!... You aren’t my dad!... I’m an orphan."

"Arwen, you aren’t an orphan, you..."

"I said stop it!" Arwen bellowed, struggling to control her emotions as she glared at Gregory, seemingly blaming him for bringing up memories she didn’t wish to recall.

Gregory’s lips quivered before he stepped back. "You are right, your parents are dead."

"... I know," Arwen muttered in a melancholic tone. "I had to kill them inside so I wouldn’t be hung up on them ever coming back for me."

"Smart."

"... Why did you bring me here?" Arwen asked, deciding to change the conversation.

Gregory replied. "You don’t remember anything?"

"Well..." Trailing off, Arwen pursed her lips, attempting to recall her last memory.

"I recall eating dinner with the others."

"I see." Gregory nodded. "Are you aware that you’ve been corrupted?"

"... How do you know that?"

It almost seemed like Gregory had touched on a sensitive subject judging from the wariness she exhibited.

"Your friends told me. They are here to save you."

"Save me?" Arwen furrowed her brows in confusion.

Gregory nodded. "The corruption within you... it got worse."

"No... I thought I could fight it." Arwen said while shaking her head vigorously in denial.

"It’s fine, you did great," Gregory said. "Now that you’re back, I can help you."

"How?"

"... I don’t know."

"Then..."

"But we can find a way together," Gregory remarked before asking. "Can you trust me?"

Arwen stared at him as seconds passed before finally nodding. "Mn."

"I’ll take you to see your friends now, so come with me."

Saying that the clones holding Arwen disappeared like a lie, same with the city, only for a green flame tongue to appear the next moment.

Gregory immediately tried to extinguish it only for the flame to explode, resulting in an inferno that sent him flying.

Arwen burst into sadistic laughter as she got back on her feet. "You fool!... You thought I’d give up so easily?"

Gregory gritted his teeth as he struggled to get back on his feet. "Arwen..."

"Your Arwen is my puppet and I control her as I please. Give it up, Gregory. I own Arwen."

"You can’t escape."

Arwen snickered. "I don’t plan to."

In the next instant, several flames pillars emerged about her while her form was engulfed by green flames, allowing her to transition from her human form to the same one she’d utilized against Elena.

Gregory tried to counterattack only for both of them to be forcibly ejected from DreamWorld by Xistora.

Only then did Gregory understand why Arwen had been so showy.

Xistora, as lazy as she was, would never allow anyone to damage DreamWorld as it was the source of her powers.

So all Arwen needed to do was damage the dimension enough for Xistora to eject her.

If it were any other Devil, they would be inclined to kill the perpetrator but for Xistora, she had no reason to bother so much.

In any case, the duo found themselves back in the hall containing the Silent Curtain with Alex standing between them.

"You..."

Before Alex could say anything, Arwen raised her left hand and the Silent Curtain appeared in her hand.

"No!" Gregory exclaimed as he tried to attack only for Arwen to activate the relic.

Following that, there was silence.

Dealing with the banshees in frozen time was nothing short of a walk in the park for the members of Constellations.

As Ana maintained the time bubble, Nadia gathered the banshees in a group while Victoria tied them up with Opal’s help.

Meanwhile, Ulysses utilized one of his abilities to seal their mouths shut so they wouldn’t make use of their authority over the Domain of Sound.

Soon enough, they had gathered the almost ten thousand banshees residing within the Wailing Peaks at which point, Ana finally released the time bubble.

"What now?" Ulysses asked while struggling to catch his breath.

"Victoria, has your Spirit found Alex?" Ana asked with Victoria nodding.

"She did, but I can’t sense them anymore."

"What do you mean?" Nadia asked with a slight frown.

"Something must have happened to them."

"Damn it." Ana cursed. "We need to move!"
