Hunter of the Evernight
Chapter 650: In the Afterlife

Chapter 650: In the Afterlife

It was in a place consumed by emerald flames with tall pillars reaching into the sky above.

Several tombs were lined up, each one occupied by a dead individual.

Alex, accompanied by an evolved Mirren and an anxious Gregory, stood across from Arwen who held the Silent Curtain in her grasp, her form appearing even more twisted and exaggerated within this dead space.

"Alex dear, it’s good you waited for me. With you here, the ritual can begin."

"What are you planning?"

"Are you going to keep asking me the same question over and over again?" Arwen asked as she rolled her eyes.

"You and I both know the truth."

"Oh really?"

"Your great plan is fundamentally flawed. So for you to go ahead with it means either of two things." Alex remarked as he raised two fingers. "One, you know this but don’t care about the consequences, or two, you aren’t telling the truth. I am inclined to believe it’s the latter."

Arwen maintained her silence for a brief period before finally raising the relic in her hand. "Let the ritual begin."

"Tch." Alex clicked his tongue as he snapped, teleporting right next to Arwen to take the relic from her only for a barrier of green flames to emerge, blocking his path.

He snapped again, shifting positions before snapping yet again, resulting in the green flames being consumed by a peculiar shade of flames shaded black and white.

Arwen’s eyes flashed with intrigue at the sight. "Now I see where the young lad got some of her ideas."

Then, she swung her scythe to strike at Alex only for the latter to snap again, teleporting away from the danger zone.

Glancing at Gregory who remained motionless, Alex remarked. "Can you do something or are you planning on just standing there?"

Gregory finally reacted but not before he was engulfed by green flames.

His figure dissipated only for him to appear at another location.

Arwen snorted. "You are quite the troublesome foe."

Instead of a response, Gregory seemed to decide at that moment as he flicked the air, causing a sound wave that sent Arwen reeling back.

"Annoying," Arwen said before adding in slight mockery. "For two grown men to take on a poor girl like me, isn’t that just bullying?"

Alex snapped, causing several black and white chains to appear, seeking to restrain Arwen.

At the same time, Gregory echoed a peculiar tune, ensuring that she lost her balance, unable to evade the chains.

Alas, as much as their joint attack was brilliant, Arwen was not alone.

A stream of green flames shot forward, striking at the chains and erasing them in an instant, catching the two men off guard.

Arwen chuckled as she regained her balance while several giant flaming skulls appeared, protecting her from her adversaries.

"Even the Afterlife knows that I am kin, supporting my goals in its way. You must understand that just as I was powerless in DreamWorld, you are powerless here. The only difference is that unlike you, I don’t plan on stopping till you are dead."

"The Afterlife?" Alex furrowed his brows, finally realizing that their current location was the same dimension that had started this entire mess.

In the meantime, despite the intimidating appearance of almost twelve flaming skulls, Gregory took steady steps forward, unwilling to accept defeat so easily.

Of course, his antics only served to fuel Arwen’s annoyance as she gave an order to the skulls. "Incinerate."

In response, several pillars of flames shot towards Gregory with the latter conjuring a layer of fog about himself, obscuring his figure while also serving as a defensive means.

Alex also made a move as he snapped several times in quick succession, resulting in several effects.

A black hole appeared above the skulls, dragging them in before they had a chance to resist, while several chains appeared to restrain Arwen, followed by a large rune that shot out a beam of light, striking Arwen.

"Purifying her won’t work, the corruption is in her Avatar." Gregory pointed out as he revealed himself.

"Then what do you suggest?"

"We have to kill her."

"What?" Alex was caught off guard by the declaration.

"That’s the only way. If she dies, then there’s nothing for the entity to latch onto."

Alex hesitated, no doubt because the person in question was Arwen.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t allowed to ponder his options as Arwen incinerated everything with her flames before proceeding to shroud herself with the Silent Curtain, amping her powers and Authority to a whole new degree.

None of the men were able to react as she unleashed her Authority, restraining them in an instant.

Her skeletal form grew even larger while her wings expanded to several meters in length while her scythe burned even more aggressively.

"Submit or die!" Arwen bellowed as she raised her scythe, intending to cut them down should they choose the first option.

Alex replied, not with words, but by unleashing Nyx’s Authority, counteracting her own with ease, allowing him and Gregory an opportunity to move once again.

Gregory didn’t hesitate to act as he released a burst of sound to disorient Arwen, an attack the latter quickly shrugged off but that wasn’t all he had planned as he utilized sound to boost his speed, causing a sonic boom as he appeared right next to her in an instant.

Flames emerged about her, seeking to protect her from Gregory’s attacks only for a snap to echo and for everything burning within the area they were in to freeze.

Arwen was stunned by the sudden appearance of the ice but before she could react further, Gregory touched her, causing her body to begin to vibrate as sound waves were conducted through her bones.

At that moment, several flaming skulls charged over, burning through the ice in a bid to aid Arwen, but Alex only needed a snap to call upon Humphrey, who inverted the space, ensuring that they would never be able to reach in time.
